Suntiger, nice that the animals get to knead on you. Bet you look great as a sexy cat burglar.

Today is rainy and grey. First day like that in a long time. I planned to spend the morning lounging under a comforter, sipping coffee, perusing job ads, and sketching out letters. Then my son came home & said no school today, I spilled coffee on my lounge dress and he took over my bed. Back to the ragamuffin look: black footless tights that’ve seen better days, terry footies bought for the plane, my cardi (yay) and this tunic top, which I thought was fantastic a year ago, when I didn’t have the right bottoms for it. Now I do, but wearing it in Berlin feels decidedly unfab. On to the job applis!

I don't distinguish between lounge and sleepwear, which ill change into about 8 or 9 (cause the cats like to knead on me and i don't want them hurting my nice work clothes). Unlike my out and about style, im a total minimalist at home: tanks, shorts in summer (black, ink blue), leggings in mild weather, and cuddle dud thermals in winter (black and fitted, my cozy catburglar look). Bralettes cause im uncomfortable without, and furry socks when cold. Since everything is in dark colors its not obviously sleepwear

La Ped, “lounge capsule ... items have certainly ... saved my out-and-about clothes from a lot of wear and tear” is sort of the mirror image of how I think of it—having inside-only clothes (and no shoes in the house!) protects the house from outside dirt & dreck. It sounds like your capsule ended up being quite cohesive.

Elizabeth P, way to leave no stone unturned!

CJ, the clothes sound good, but I’m even more impressed by a daily journaling habit.

I've never bought a lounge top in my life -- I have so many old t-shirts with sentimental value (bands, political movements, literary events, etc) that I couldn't bear to part with but also don't want to wear outside of the house. At-home use is ideal, whether as sleepwear or chore wear (they generally start out as sleepwear and move organically into chore wear when they seem too gnarly for the bed). T-shirts get so soft and comfy just as they're starting to develop pinholes and frayed edges, you know?

I did finally invest in a few pairs of sleep shorts several years ago. I used to be like Joy, content to sleep in my undies, but once I had a baby I found myself getting out of bed enough during the night that I felt I needed something more clothes-like to wander around the house in during the wee hours, especially when there are guests over. After I acquired my sleep shorts, I also acquired a pair of sweatpants to throw on over them when it's too cold to wander around in just shorts. And then I picked up two hoodies that matched the sweatpants, because when a baby wakes you up at night there's a good chance it's going to make a mess on you, so I decided having a couple of "house hoodies" was worthwhile. And, voila -- lounge capsule! All those items have certainly earned their keep and saved my out-and-about clothes from a lot of wear and tear.

I also have pj's plus loungewear. PJ's don't make it out of the bedroom... strictly for sleeping. I wear a variety of things depending on the weather, from a short sleeved nightshirt, to shorts and tanks, to flannel bottoms with long sleeved tees. Generally purchased at my favourite store... Costco!

Loungewear is worn after work and on weekends before I get going. Often some sort of loose Lululemon pant, (but not leggings) with a tee and zip up hoodie, or sweatshirt. Or leggings with a tunic. In the summer, stretchy shorts and a tee/tank. Presentable if someone is at the house, but I don't normally leave the house in it.

Nightwear--a nightshirt, below the knee, made of bamboo material,
very comfy. Worn only to sleep in.
Loungewear--soft long bottoms with presentable tee on top, sometimes with wrap over tee, worn during morning coffee/journaling, then I change into the clothes for the day. At night, I might wear those same soft bottoms or day-clothes. Loungewear is esp comfy if we're watching a movie.

In my neck of the woods the PJ's are sleepwear only and do not equal lounge-or home-wear! Then, casualisation is most and most noticeable, including even dressy and formal wear, but it can look glamorous, too- if done well!

I wear in bed strappy tanks/knickers sets, as I hate having pajama trousers on - they always seem to end up rucked up around my knees and uncomfortable.
I do own long pajama trousers/long-sleeved tops & hoodies, either matching or coordinating, which I wear around the house as loungewear - a lot of the trousers you can buy as separates have cuffs and/or pockets so are ideal for loungewear. I wear them as far out of the house as taking the bins out to the gate, but no further!

However, loungewear tends to be reserved for the weekends, since I work Sat/Sum/Mon nights, I sleep during those days and thus loungewear keeps me comfy between shifts. I have been known to add jeans and a hoodie to my actual nightwear to do the school run on a Monday! For running errands/school runs I generally wear jeans and a tee/hoodie or leggings & tunic dresses. Also, several of my pajama tanks are from Bravissimo, and have an inbuilt soft-cup bra, so I do wear them sometimes in the summer as outside tanks for the school run, since they're more fitted/less recognisable as pajamas!
This sort of thing, although mine has a small button placket! https://www.bravissimo.com/pro.....-nw255ora/

Jessikams, oh no! I’m having horrid flashbacks to a co-worker. I could not figure out his odor, until someone told me they had taken care of place while he was gone once and his cats sprayed everywhere, including on him & his clothes. I gave him a ride back from the airport once, after a job interview. I was safe from the scent, but I wonder what they thought once he got there?

But I’m sure you look, smell, and feel fabulous in your cat clothes and leggings for bed.

I have a small capsule of “home” clothes because I have cats. These clothes are gray and denim, so they sorta hide cat hair and they can get clawed without too much damage.

When it’s time to actually get into bed, I change into pjs. It took me a long time to think of sleeping in leggings, but now I love it for winter,

Sal, putting on exercise gear first thing is so disciplined—especially if you actually exercise! When the fire alarm went off at our apartment around 5:30 am a couple years ago, people came outside wearing all kinds of things. Glad the guy in the wreck at your place was OK!

Plonkee, looking nice is something I aspire to as well, lol. Tunic + leggings sounds good to me, not sure why you felt unstylish (& unattractive?)

Jenn, that loungewear looks as pulled-together as I’ve come to expect from you. Not sure I’d be into changing from sleepshorts to coffee-drinking loungewear, so it makes sense to me that you don’t do that often.

Carla, you admitted it, so I will too: I don’t like sleeping in pajamas, never have (maybe it’s genetic—my dad never did either, until his bride was horrified he’d be so uncivilized, lol). I don’t drape my pajamas over the alarm clock to block the light—I got rid of the alarm clock, because I couldn’t stand the light at night.

Molly Mac & KM, as you can guess from the confession I just made, this is about the clothes I wear around the house, not your “actually sleeping” category. When I have serious writing to do, the very best time for me to work on it is immediately after waking up. After 45 min or so, I’ll go to the bathroom, brush teeth, wash my face, then work for another hour until breakfast. That’s what got me real about loungewear. I needed something to pull on easily so I didn’t freeze, but could stay in that headspace. I also wear it for the kinds of things you mention—having or being houseguests, etc. These days, being unemployed, i often put it on in the morning and wear it until I leave the house.

Cardiff girl, that’s amazing. In my experience, it can be hard to get kids to change out of school clothes into play clothes.

Binkle, ah, yes, getting dressed vs getting “dressed”. What you say about wearing a bra makes sense. Not needing one out of physical necessity myself, I’d never thought of that.

Rachylou, well dang. That puts a different light on the bubble dress sweatshirt dress I got last winter. It is very comfy, but I had never considered it as lounge clothes. More like “look at me-I get to be soooo comfy going out”. You look darn good in yours.

KM, I love that cardi! I got the color in the find, which I don’t think goes with most of my clothes. That’s good, because otherwise I’d wear it all the time. It is long and generously proportioned, but is not at all sloppy. You know it has no closure, right?

Rachylou, I discovered leggings as sleepwear a couple years ago. Dropped my kid off at school on an unusually chilly morning, decided to postpone my walk til it warmed up, slipped back under covers in my clean, fairly new workout leggings. That was amazing! The most comfortable clothes I’d worn to sleep in ever. When I got my Life is Good jammies in the find, I also got matching leggings to wear when it is so cold I actually want to sleep in pajamas, and a cardi to toss on over when I get up. My old cold-weather sleep/Lounge wear was a Lanz nightgown. I’d add socks when it was extra chilly, then long johns. If I was still cold, I’d put a sweater on over. It was the complete ragamuffin look, and the nightgown still twisted around me when I slept. Loose clothes for bed are so backwards. If I must wear anything to bed, from now on it will be leggings or long johns.

Joy, neither pjs nor loungewear? You are hard core! But I can’t argue with an EF ensemble.

I mostly buy specific sleepwear - nighties, one pair flannel PJs for winter travelling, boxer type shorts - occasionally I supplement with a tank or cami.

In the morning I usually put on exercise gear as I gym/run first thing five days a week. If I am having a slower morning I might wear a robe for an hour or two. In the evening it depends - sometimes I put on leggings or soft pants, other days just a sweater over what I am already wearing. If I had a more formal work dress code I can see that I would change when I got home.

I do admit to sneaking to the letterbox on a Saturday in my PJs to get our delivered newspaper..... and one famous morning there was a car prang outside our house at about 6am - I ran outside in my nightdress to find my neighbour standing there in his boxer sleep shorts. We both thought it was funny and luckily the driver was fine.

I don't do lounge wear but have something reserved for sick days in winter or possibly if I think I may need to get up in the night when DGS sleeps over. These items would never be worn out of the house. My daily clothing is quite comfortable enough to curl up with a good book. Right now I am wearing silk EF wide pants and a silk tee and footies without shoes. My underwear is comfortable. No need for loungewear. A waste of money.

(I'm super sensitive to light, so the illumination form the C/R bugs me.). I'll don the pj's (cotton cropped yoga pants and t/shirt) for breakfast, but when I'm ready to start my day I get properly dressed.

My 15 year old loves to put on her p.j s straight after school st 4 o’clock!I couldn’t bear to do this, you d have to get changed again if you needed to go out so I tend to wear normal casual clothes until bed time. The only exception is if I m feeling unwell or it’s in the dead of winter ,dark and cold then I might be persuaded to put my dressing gown on early!

I have both "lounge wear" and pajamas. My lounge wear is what I put on after I change out of my work clothes. Lounge wear for me consists of soft draw string pants from Uniqlo and cute tanks or tshirts. I am still presentable if my teenage sons or husband has friends over but I am comfy enough to lay on the couch and read a book. My pajamas are what I actually sleep in; slip style night shirts or old tshirt hand me downs from DH and DSs. Both lounge wear and pajamas are for inside/at home only.

I wear shorts and a tank top to sleep in, year-round. For me, "lounge wear" is what I wear to...lounge, which often means the same fitted tanks with some longer soft pants, slippers, and a long cardigan, if it's wintertime.

My time in loungewear is quite limited though. I wear it after I shower or take a bath in the evenings, (occasionally) while I drink coffee on weekend mornings, when I'm sick, and on Christmas day. I don't wear it to work at home or for large parts of the day on a regular basis.

I aspire to look nice. I have decent sets of pyjamas that I like, but for lolling about the house comfortably I like to be dressed in 'real' clothes - and the most comfortable are not always as beautiful as I would like. Last time I did this it was leggings and a very comfortable tunic top. I would probably say that I ended up as presentable but not fashionable (that particular combination of mine felt like a few years out of style).

Talk has turned to pajam---I mean lounge wear!--over on Jenn's challenge thread. I thought I'd bring the conversation here so as not to hijack over there.

Back when I was growing up, pajamas were put on right before bed, tucked away as soon as we woke up in the morning, and changed weekly, along the bed sheets. These days, I tend to wear them many more hours than that, so they don't last a week. The styles I wear are slowly creeping towards regular day clothes, cozy edition, even though I don't wear them out of the house.

It's getting a little chilly for the Life is Good nightclothes I brought with me, so I got some new very soft, comfy pieces. I thought I was so clever to choose these to wear as nightgown and housecoat, even though they were listed as regular dress and cardigan. The dress has no shape whatsoever, but is lovely on the skin. The cardi is cozy without being in the way--the sleeves fit closely enough at the wrists that it is impossible for them to drag in the dishwater or catch on the door handle.

Then I saw this photo at the bottom of the dress' page https://www.hm.com/de/product/.....le=14040-B I wish I'd taken a screen shot the first time around, because what are now described as "Schlupf" hose (pull-on pants) were named "pyjama pants". The whole photo is a little confusing to me, tbh. Are they having a night on the town in their modern black-and-white ensembles, or is this a slumber party? How can you tell?

On the one hand, this could be casualization of nightlife. Or maybe it's that lounge wear (that sounds so much more sophisticated than pjs) is getting fancier. What do you think? Do you care to share what you wear around the house? In the morning hours before you leave the house, in the evening when you unwind, during the day while you work from home and/or take care of kids and/or elders, do you wear T-shirts that are too bedraggled to wear out of the house, are you as dapper as Bernard in his recent WiW with argyle sweater and bow tie, or somewhere in the middle?
