You already got great ideas here. I'd like to add another one: Perhaps a braided black fabric belt might work.

Tanya, what if you tried a contrasting belt rather than attempting to match it to the coat? Something like red or fuschia patent, or maybe lime?

The stretchy belt also sounds good, though I imagine you'd have to size up to avoid having the belt pull the coat in too much and make it bunchy.

Tanya, can you be more specific than "slippery, shiny black material"? lol

Why don't you just buy more fabric (many online fabric sources will offer swatches for low or no fee so that you can match the blacks or perhaps find an interesting textural contrast) and have a seamstress make one?

http://emmaonesock.com/fabrics/rainwear42016.asp
(that's just one online source)

Good luck!

I don't know if this will work or not but what about a ribbon belt. I saw a trench today with one today and it was cute.

I'm not sure Tanya but I will be watching this discussion with interest. I have a very similar coat and the belt slides out a lot, so I always anticipate losing it someday. I would try black patent first, and if that looks weird, then I would do what Sara says and just try to make it look intentional.

You could look for a stretchy black belt with an interesting front clasp.

I've seen belts purposely replaced on coats with a 'fashion' belt and it definitely adds interest. I don't know your trench, but I am thinking along the lines of those Betsy Johnson wider stretch belts that always have some pizzazz. . .

Maybe get a larger size than usual so the coat still has plenty of breathing room.

I guess the title says it all The trench is made from slippery, slightly shiny material and the belt must have just slipped off. It does not look good without the belt -it is a double breasted style. I have tried a classic black leather belt over, but it looks off. Any ideas?
