Great pics FI.

The long coat is amazing. Elegant drama!

With the pullover in 16, would you consider tucking it in, or is it too bulky? I’m seeing a great 70’s/vintage vibe in your outfits and I think tucking would enhance that. Pic 2 looks fantastic. I think the sweater looks best untucked there.

Love the hair barrette

Kkards and Suntiger, remember the V8 slap? That’s what I’m doing about that coat with the cardi. I think that on the day I was thinking the coat was too formal, which doesn’t make sense because it covers up the casualness underneath anyway, like it did on the way to PT today.

Kkards, I find the oversized moto easier to wear than the bomber that fits me just so, because the bomber has a great warm lining that makes my butt feel cold by comparison. By not being so warm to begin with, the moto makes temp regulation much easier.

Thanks, avicennia!

Posting my thoughts 1st, then going back to read what others said.
love the pink vest outfit #3..love the way the light and dark colors play together, love the way the layers come together, for me the outfit with the vest is a fab and #2 with out the vest is a fine...to my eye the vest just finishes the outfit. And i have a soft spot for long dramatic coats, so #4 is a wow...
i really like #9/10 as an outfit, but i personally struggle with coats at the length because i don’t find them warm enough.
#12/13. I think without the coat the outfit works, but layering the short coat over it is, for me, confusing. I’d throw the blue coat on and call it a day.

Sal, you made me smile and think of my sister, who always called me “willowy”. I’m glad the outfits work for you. Good point about all the hair.

LaPed, that’s a great compliment from the second hand shopping pro. I can’t imagine winter without that coat, even though I don’t wear it often.

Irina, thanks for your detailed comment. Reactions to the coat with the pants are interesting. I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t “flowy, drapey week”. I think the volume on volume is a lot of look. It’s funny I used to wear both these pants with neutral, brown, and occasionally cranberry red. I tried to do something new to avoid the time machine, but maybe I just had a good idea back then.

Thanks, Kellygirl. The cardi + puffy is what made me realize I really should get real about getting a new coat. Giggling about “so many OBGs”. For me, a bigger challenge would be a whole week without wearing anything over five years old. Hmmm

Kate, thanks for all the encouragement!

You do have some OBG! My faves are the long black coat for drama and the moto in 17 and 18. Great palette and proportions. I layer like you do in 12 quite often but my puffer is a dark olive and I usually pair it with a dark cardigan. Your plummy version looks more playful and fun!

I like #18, when the leather jacket zipped up but not the #17, too much contrast between a scarf and a sweater. I see that you used a cream scarf to coordinate it with a bag. Maybe, try cream sweater instead. Love, love that leather jacket.
Also, like #2 & 3, fresh and simple.
A scarf and a burgundy sweater look very elegant together and with a leather jacket. - #8& 9. Sorry but pants and a wool coat are not my favorites. Something is off with fit or maybe it’s just hard to assess it from photos.
From the pictures of the mid length coats, I would not consider fit and flare styles (pink & burgundy). Might look dated if you want to wear it over pants. I love the green one!

The long wool coat is really spectacular. I like that outfit with the vest, *love* it with the coat! The leather jacket outfit is great too — the mix of dark and light browns is really nice, especially offset by the cream accessories.

I really like the moto look in 9 and adore the blue coat in 4. Something about the heft of those pieces adds drama and makes the whole ensemble look intentional. Very Euro IMO.

Agree with Angie's tips about short outerwear over long cardi looks.

Re: 16, I think the pants length is fine (I am not a pants length expert though), but overall this warmer palette washes you out to my eye. Try the pants with a cooler shade on top -- the berry sweater from 7, or the winter white from 2.

Thanks TG! These are familiar pieces to people here, and not as drapey or dramatic as some might wish. It’s all about the remix, and about things I can actually wear every day—architectural swoosh would get on my nerves as fast as it’d catch on doorknobs. I appreciate your comment about the weight & flowing lines.

Angie, thanks. Good tip about styling short over long.. So I got the pants length right in 12? Whenever I’m reunited with my memorabilia, I’ll have to post some pix of high school me in the coat.

To my eye wearing a short puffer over a cascading cardi like in #12 works better when the items are in the same palette and low contrast to one another. Like if the puffer were black.

Taking up Synne’s challenge, here’s a group of outfits that each include at least one item that is long or not fitted. The overriding majority of pieces are still OBGs. One issue that came up immediately is the problem of outerwear. I’ve collected mid-thigh coats/ jackets in my finds ever since I’ve been on YLF. Looks like it’s time to do something about that. I think of the blackberry one from Halogen as “the one that got away”. Also, I’m still working on fitting in the moto.

1-5 found this barrette in the big leather moto, idk where I got it, but I pretend I’m Brooklyn with her classy Byzantine pieces from Moma when I wear it.
Hat & mittens TJ Max ca 2015. Are they in ok shape? Someone commented on them, but I wasn’t sure if it was clear the edges are fuzzy because they’re supposed to be.

11-15 I’m sure taking this woman’s pic without asking is illegal, so I have obscured her face. She made me smile because she’s me in a couple decades—all those shades of rosy warm berry colors plus a touch of something else jff, and then the practical shoes and backpack. And then there’s me wearing my cozy sweater blankie out with jeans, and at home with a tunic. Irene said that to decide about it, she needed to see it with something besides the pink jeans. I’m glad I took the pix, because otherwise I was thinking cardi, tunic & tights (14) would work oitw. Nope!

I just love these swimmers. They are along the edge of the river as if they’re about to dive in, FKK (“Free Body Culture”—German for being nude in public, which is not considered lewd in many contexts).

16-21. Trying to lighten up the leather jacket as Janet suggested, with light-colored pieces around it. Does it work?
The train station is part of a line that just opened. My son and I toured it while it was under construction, because we are nerds like that.
