Thanks Joy.

Runcarla, I was hoping for a style a little dressier than most Sorels this time. Good to know about the "fashion" Sorels. And I totally agree on smartwool socks...I'm increasing my collection all the time. They are incredible.

Madeline, I've had a couple of pair of rieker/remonte shoes and agree they are really great. I figured NYC was more slushy than snowy, so thanks for confirming that, hence looking for something waterproof.

I just bought a pair of Rieker knee high boots. Waterproof, lug sole, removable insole for orthotic inserts.

https://m.zappos.com/p/rieker-.....olor/38751

The company goes by Remonte in the US. I am happy with the quality of the last pair: lasted for 3 years of hard use. Good luck with your purchase. In NYC, there are often slush puddles rather than snow banks! Just sayin'.

Sorel fan, here! You should be able to get a temperature rating on Sorels. Be wary of the 'fashion' Sorels made in response to the demand after the Katniss character wore them in the Hunger Games movies.

Socks are important too. I wear Smart Wool socks, and they are life savers.

You have picked great choices. My experience with BareTraps is that they are comfortable and inexpensive, but the sole may be more slippery than those you have picked.

All great choices. I love the look of the Kodiaks and the Tulas (hope those work out for you!). I've been considering adding a pair of Blondo Villas as a dressier option for winter weather -- I'll be curious to hear your opinion of them when they arrive.

You can keep an eye on weather before you go, but I would prioritize the boots being water-resistant or waterproof and having a grippy sole (if you’ll be taking the MTA) over their being warm. Your feet are more likely to become wet before they become cold, as the last few winters have been rather temperate.

The Blondo Ida and Kodiak Acadia arrived yesterday. I sized up a bit more than usual and 7 1/2 seems exactly right to wear over socks. Figured out sizing...check!

I could tell right away that The 1 1/2" heel on the Blondo Ida is a bit too high for all day walking for me, but the boots feel fabulous overall and are really nice to look at. The Blondo brand will work for my feet...check!

I am surprised at how much I like the Kodiak Acadia. It's hard to see in the find, the toe and heel areas are leather but the upper is suede which makes it a bit less sporty than I expected, which is GOOD. Super comfy. These are definitely contenders.

I just ordered three more options:
Blondo tula which just came back in stock in my size yay!
Blondo liam
Blondi vila

And as an extra bonus, these boots are all priced around $120 - $150 which seems like a good value to me. I have not bought new winter-weather boots in at least 4 years and all the ones I have are sporty. My one pair of tall boots is not very warm or very good in slippery conditions so I don't count them as winter-weather boots.

I am toying with the idea of keeping the Kodiak lace up ones AND one other....but need to get the three new ones, wear for a few hours at home, and take them outdoors for a spin final decision, and then will wear them on my daily walks to get them broken in a bit.

finds added
1 - the Ugg boots I want to replace or upgrade
2 - Blondo Ida (with too high a heel)
3 - Kodiak Acadia (contender #1)
4 - Blondo Tula
5 - Blondo Villa
6 - Blondo Liam

I have a pair of Blondos from a couple of years ago that I love (they're no longer made). I also have a pair of La Canadiennes that are very warm, though they are a dressy riding boot and therefore don't have the nonslip sole. I would recommend Blondo, La Canadienne, and Aquatalia. I know that the LCs are expensive, but from what I can see, they will last a very long time.

fashionintern and Jennie NZ...the subtleties of the English language always provide plenty of opportunity for humor don't they :-) I was using the plural of "bootie" to mean footwear, not the plural of "booty" which of course has nothing to do with footwear. But you knew that Humor is a GOOD thing!

I’m sorry, but to me, the primary meaning of “booty” has nothing to do with shoes, and this title makes me giggle. Getting some over the winter, cozy and supportive, sounds great!

fashionintern thanks, and yes I did see KMs post, but I want lower boots than she showed. And thanks KM for the more detailed info on them.

Suz, you ae definitely an expert in this area, thanks for all the detailed ideas, I will look into your suggestions.

thanks Angie, good to get confirmation on the brand suggestions.

thanks BC, Clarks are one of my go to's, I will definitely check out your suggestions

Firecracker thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. I was fitted for new running shoes last summer and they also included superfeet insoles so I could certainly put those inserts into any boots I get. Great idea.

Another vote for Blondos here. I got these (in Finds) a couple of years ago and wore them traipsing all over slushy, icy NYC. (While they aren't available now, this endorsement may have bearing on other styles by Blondo.) Mine were workhorses last year in wet, sometimes snowy and slushy Seattle, lots of city walking. They do NOT have arch support, but I just put in my Superfeet, and they are super comfy all day long. They are warm, with a flannel lining, too, and I tend to wear them with at least trouser socks or something like a cozy Smartwool or Uniqlo Heat-Tech sock. I found this boot ran small--I usually wear a 7 or 7.5, and I sized up to 8 in them. So perhaps Blondo will be a good fit for your low-volume foot.

Another worth considering, perhaps, is Munro: the Bradley is water-resistant and fleece-lined, with a lug sole. I've tried it on, and it is very lightweight. I would have bought it if I had a need for it (I have a very similar style by Born, not waterproof).

The boots fashiontern mentioned from my post are Bare Traps Sheree Boots, and yes, they are winter boots--water- and snow-proof, lined with a warm material, and they keep my feet dry and warm. They are very comfortable and anti-slip (though after three winters the sole ridges are starting to wear).

I don't think they make those anymore although you can still find some numbers and colors online. They have other winter styles here: https://www.footwearunlimited......ots&C. They are more affordable than other brands, but still offer good quality (this is my second pair; my first, a different model, lasted three winters of hard, almost daily use).

I'm not sure they meet all of your requirements, but just in case...

I like what others have recommended. I have problem feet, and just ordered these two pairs. I wore the boots in pic 1 today. They provide good ankle support, which I need, and are roomy enough for me to wear with thicker socks. Both are from Clarks and are available in a wide width.

That Blondo is really handsome. I was going to suggest them, too, except I don't know what the fit is like.

Definitely worth trying.

Here are the Cailys in suede. I rolled up one pant leg to show the shaft but of course black is hard to photograph.

I bought Blondo Idas at NAS. I can wear my hiking socks with them. I think that with regular socks that orthotics would probably fit.

I'm going to put another vote in for Blondo AND Ugg. If you want to spend a little more - La Canadienne and Aquatalia.

Chris, I highly recommend anything by La Canadienne. Pricey but excellent quality.

I got a suede version of the LaC "Cally" (Find below). In person, it is much more refined than the photo makes it look (I will try to take pictures tomorrow for you so you can see -- the suede version is in fact a great cross purpose boot. It's easy to walk in but does not feel too casual in a restaurant or gallery or such). It is not a lace up but I think you would probably find it narrow enough on the shaft; the foot might or might not be too wide. I wear a EU 37 or 6.5 but often go for a 7 in boots for extra room; in these, I took 6.5 and there is tons of room for my plantar fasciitis heel thingies (basically a half insole) and thick socks. I do admit it didn't offer quite enough support for me without the PF insert. With the insert, it's extremely comfortable for all day and I've had no flare ups. (In contrast, I can't wear my Ugg Adirondacks snow boots for more than half an hour without recurrent pain; I should really pass those along to someone who can wear them more successfully because they are high quality and warm!)

Back to Cally. Though not billed as snow boots, these will be warm enough for me this winter except on the very coldest days, perhaps -- and they have a lightweight lug sole. And I mean lightweight. Unlike some boots, you don't feel you're dragging another person in your wake every time you take a step!! They are truly waterproof. The narrow shaft means pants can be cropped or worn easily overtop at full length; they are even wearable with a skirt.

I like the look of the Solana too but did not try it. The Ginny might be fabulous, too!

I own the Merrell Ice Snow boot. You don't want those for your trip. Totally the wrong thing. I wear them in the ice for my walks -- they are strictly gear and also too hot for me if I am going to be in and out of doors.

The Ginnys are my fave of the ones you picked. Many of them are pretty waffley waffle-stompers. Did you see the elegant black boots in KM’s post? I don’t know that brand, but the description says they are real winter boots, ready for nasty weather.

These boots are fabulous. I usually need a wide to accommodate my orthotics but just went up a half size. Warm, supportive, stylish and reasonable price for the quality and they are waterproof.
https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/b.....en/4614801

I’m going to NYC for a long weekend in January and need to find a replacement for my Ugg boots. I want boots that are waterproof (or can be made so), leather not cloth, have good arch support for all-day walking or room for an orthotic insole (I probably want a “comfort” brand), ankle or mid-shin height, low heels, lace up because that gives me the best fit on my low-volume feet, have a lug sole good in ice/snow, and somewhat warm (I don’t mind wearing thick wool socks). I’d love to find a “fashion” look, and ok with a somewhat sporty look, but do not want a hiking boot or another pair that looks like the uggs. I’m also not a big fan of the high top sneaker look although I know many fabbers like it.

My ugg boots met all these goals except the non-slip sole for the first three years I had them, then a year ago when I walked for 10 or 12 hours one day in London they were not longer supportive and I ended up with plantar fasciitis for the fist time ever. I put heel inserts in them and still wear them for several hours at a time but not all day.

The first find is the Uggs I have now, and I’ve grabbed some other finds that are like what I'm lookin for. I'd love to hear what boots and/or brands have worked for you.

I just found this posting from a year ago and it looks like it has lots of good idea so I'll start by studying it....https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....nter-boots

one other thing...I live in New England so NYC will be a little warmer by comparison..and boots of this description will get plenty of use at home.
