Thanks again everyone. Such great ideas. Wish I could afford the lot!!! I have collected many of those you all posted.

Una, your pics and links make me love the HL jacket even more. Still a contender.

Suz, your thoughts about leather and faux leather were really helpful. I am looking for inside toppers specifically, so any choice needs to be able to breathe and move. I have my Tory Burch black moto with me this week so we shall see how well it performs. I really am not sure if it is light / thin enough for indoor wear.

Ingunn, thank you for the wealth of options you sent! That cream BR suede trim moto is making me swoon and feeding my current desire for luxe fabrics. I may be placing an advance order to try that so that it ships when it is available in October. (My little local BR is unlikely to carry it.) Some great Zara options there too.

Lisa, thanks for the endorsement of the CM jacket IRL. I am going to drag my friend to CM in Seattle and try that one on. I did see the BR grey jacket but it's too heavy for my indoor needs.

Thanks again for all the great help.

vivian - the CM drapey-ish zip trim one you have in your picks is really nice IRL. My best toppers like you are referring to have come from CM.

I have the opposite issue - think I need them, find lots I like and buy a few, then have such a narrow window of opportunity to wear them that they rarely get worn. But for travel, I hear ya. Leather is so good for that. I have a ponte lined knit heavy moto with a ton of great buckle and zip detail that must be at least 10 years old. Hardly ever worn, but I kept it nonetheless. Every season I threatened to put it in the donate bag. So - I pulled it out to wear the other day and it's now my favourite jacket. Who knows with these things!

BR has a cute little soft grey knit moto with gold zips -lined too. Have you seen that one?

A couple of jean style jackets (white, dark wash, and blue+white Ikat) have been my standbys, but about 8 weeks ago I relocated from a small area office to HO and felt a need for something a little more formal. The sporty luxe look appeals to me and I've got a sugar eye for colour block. I just picked up the jacket below at Laura.

It looks good left open, since it hangs close to the body.

love all the choices here, and just wanted to add, don't over look the gap, i got 2 workhorse toppers for summer (including a great floral moto), and i'm thinking about this one for fall. the bomber also caught my eye, but its probably to casual and not good for work. (and both seem to come in interesting grays).
and then i'll also throw in one expensive one from McGinn, , i almost bought it at NAS, but ended up buying the Rag and Bone topper instead.

Keeping an eye out for knit jackets sounds like a good plan, Viva. Great suggestions from the other ladies. I collected some hoodies and knit jackets for Elly last week. There are some fun moto styles in there too:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....it-jackets

I love all those toppers. I just have to add, coming from Santa Barbara the indoor/outdoor temp discrepancy drove me crazy in the northeast! Office interiors would be balmy to point of swampy on the coldest days of the year, and frigid to the edge of meatlocker on the hottest. I hated that!

Oh, I love your picks and just collected them all myself, how's that?

Actually, I'm in search of the same thing myself...I really want a knit moto or silky bomber (which I still don't have). Faux leather won't work for me, and from experience I know that real leather will have to be really, really soft and thin for me to enjoy wearing it much as an indoor jacket. I have two leather jackets from Danier that are pretty gorgeous and I like them. but I tend to wear them as outdoor toppers on the whole. The blazer style one does get some use indoors because it has knit panels in the sleeves, and I can scrunch them. But basically, if it is too heavy, it won't work for me inside. It's not that I get too hot; I just don't feel as comfortable. So, let that be a (minor) warning about leather.

I thought of Una's HL moto but I feel it would be too long on me to wear with dresses. Not that I actually wear a lot of dresses. But...still. You know.

Some great suggestions here.

I LOVE the Helmut Lang, Una. Top of the price points, but that curve at the back and its versatility keep it on my list for sure. (PS I bought that quilted sweatshirt at F21 today! It's so cozy!) Wish it were available in other than black and white, but still, I could bite.

Like Rabbit, I also love that green Joe Fresh, Niki. Just not sure about the color and faux leather. I think that is something I have to see in person. I may have to wait until I am in NYC in November and check the Joe Fresh there. Thanks for the tip! I also love the jeans in that picture.

Some great basic options in your choices, Laura, especially the black (again!) Halogen. The CMs are a bit expensive, especially the burgundy one that Susie and I both love. I'm not even sure why I collected that. Masochist.

This Helmut Lang jacket has been outrageously versatile and can be worn at least 5 ways... Knit moto and feels amazing.

I'm in search of the same thing and I think your picks look great. As a start I tend to look for toppers that work in terms of color and style with my most frequently worn/best loved shoes, as they kind of bookend each other.

I'm also wowed by Niki's green Joe Fresh moto. I know fauxleather can either work or not depending on the item, you have to see it in various lights, but I wish we got that in the US so I could investigate further. (ahh, I see they can ship it, but don't have over size 6 :P).

ETA: how cool are the plaid mix shirts! (okay looking for toppers, stay focused)

I'm late to the world of toppers, but after traveling this week I give in. I need to wear a jacket All. The. Time.

In Miami it was sweltering, but the AC blasted in every building, so a topper was a must, and I wore that new BR blazer everywhere. Plus, I was reminded how cold I am on planes and in airports. I've narrowed my shopping focus to toppers and booties for now. Truly items of need.

I have 3 traditional blazers: black, grey, and navy. And a black short leather jacket.

I am looking for 1-2 less traditional toppers now, possibly cropped, maybe softer material, maybe ponte moto type -- something I can use to dress up jeans or wear with nice pants. I like texture. I like some drape but not too arty.

Has anyone seen/collected anything like this? Or any suggestions on sites to search?

I've found these CM ones. What do you think?
