Greyscale, good to know about the IDLF!

Elle, thanks for the heads-up on the return policy, that's also very good to know!

PS. Keep an eye on Uniqlo's return policy. They are strict about time (I think it is 60 days, unworn, unwashed etc).

Excellent - good luck! I do find that the IDLF sizing is a little different, or more like the cut is different. Eg, regular Uniqlo buttoned shirts are too short in the torso for me, but IDLF is perfect.

I bought in store so I could try on different sizes. I bought one size up for a more relaxed fit (and I am busty). It's possible your regular size would work for you. This was a few years ago so things might have changed.

Greyscale, I looked at their measurements and thought XS would work better. The reviews are all over the place in terms of people's body types and size preferences. I ordered all XS and one S, and if need be I'll return or exchange. I've been wanting to order Uniqlo for years and never did because of size uncertainty; it's high time I do now (since I don't live anywhere close to a store). At least I'll know for the future! (I also looked at the Ines de La Fressange colab preview and it looks awesome, so it'll be good to know my size for that)

Oooh Greyscale, this is very helpful info. I'm an XS and just loaded up my shopping cart with S tees there. I have broad shoulders too; I'm a 34A. Now your input makes me wonder if I should order the XS...
(I know many people order both sizes planning on returning half, but I am obsessive about avoiding returns...)

I find that it's true to size on many items. I am an XS in most brands, with broad shoulders, and I usually get an XS at Uniqlo also. I bought a few tees in both XS and S and found I never reach for the larger ones. But their sizing can be variable, for sure. And I have no idea how their sizes scale up past S so my experience might be irrelevant for other sizes.

delurked, one of my long-time wishes is to find nice tees with interesting colors and prints (not graphic tees, but allover patterns). I love the fit and feel of tees, but the plain solid colors are sometimes too casual or neutral. Why should buttoned tops have all the fun?
I've been trying to incorporate more woven and buttoned tops, but they never fit me right. I have a small chest and they are often too loose and show everything unless I stand up straight like a statue.
Aquamarine, did you go one size up or more?
I'm perusing their site right now. Btw amazing prices on tees! But slow, slow website...

KM - I've thought of trying them before, and look forward to your feedback. For myself, I've learned although I used to like plain tees, I now prefer something with more detail or pattern. So I will enjoy them on others. I hope you find just the right thing. A flattering t shirt fit it such a good feeling.

delurked, one of the reasons I never ordered from Uniqlo so far is because I heard their sizing is quite idiosyncratic. I also heard many items run small. But I'm encouraged enough by this thread to try anyway and bite the bullet if I have to return...

Maybe others with more knowledge of the brand can chime in!

I took a quick look at Uniqlo sizing chart and am a bit confused. No actual sizes. So I measured from shoulder to shoulder (maybe not the most accurate trying to do it myself), but I'm off the charts too big for their sizing on the shoulder measurement. Does this match your knowledge of this brand? I've got no sewing skills, so I'm also not sure I'm measuring correctly. Down below that I can fit the other measurements (bust, waist etc) , but do you guys think this brand runs narrow through the shoulder? If so, it's a mental rule out for me.

I've been buying Eddie Bauer long sleeve crew neck tees. I wear them every single day in cooler weather. I really loved them. Last year I decided to get all charcoal, because that was my favorite color, and I hated having only one day where I was happiest. But last year, they seemed to pill, sort of. Even though I still wear them, I'm not at my happiest, and I'm annoyed with them for changing, for the worse.

Second the Uniqlo Supima suggestion. I'm not much of a layering-tee person, but I have the tank top version in four different colors and two different sizes and it's just as you describe: silky, slight sheen, good give and shape retention, and can go either with normal size for fitted or one size up for body-skimming.

Also I know what you're avoiding with most J Crew tees but their Perfect Tee might be closer to what you want. I think they just redesigned them.

I keep buying tees thinking they'll be The One so I can go back and stock up but they never are. So I still have my ever more faded stack of identical old Gap and Uniqlo tees, and then another stack of one-off near misses. Ah well. At least they're all inexpensive.

I also long for a re-release of my favorite Gap tees, the Essential Tee with the deep v neck from ~4-5 years ago. Different priorities than yours - all cotton with no stretch, a loose fit and loose sleeves.

I have 6 of a different Uniqlo supima tee (scoop neck, dolman sleeves, no stretch) and I am thrilled that I found a near-exact match at Everlane.

Aquamarine, me too... I keep posting reviews on the Gap site asking for the old ones (and voting for all the reviewers who say the same thing). I even sent their customer service an email about it! I thought they couldn't source the fabric anymore, but I see they still use it for their maternity tees. I almost thought of ordering a maternity one to see if I could make the ruching work on a non-pregnant body...

I've been searching high and low for replacements for some old beloved long-sleeve tees. They were Gap Purebody fitted tees done with a blend of cotton and elastane (not modal), sold for years until about a couple of years ago, when they were discontinued.

I am searching for tees that compare to the qualities I loved about the old ones:

1) They were comfortably fitted, as they had enough elastane to keep them stretchy. Many fitted tees nowadays don't have enough give and are uncomfortable (I find this with Zara and JCrew tees).
2) You could order your true size for a skintight fit, or a size up for a body-skimming but not sausage-casing look.
3) They were thin, so you could layer them easily.
4) They were breathable because of the cotton (unlike the modal ones).
5) The cotton/elastane proportion was just right, so the tees kept their shape as you wore them. This is not the case with many cotton tees (e.g. soft JCrew cotton tees sag and loosen up after a few hours)
6) The cotton/elastane blend gave them a silky but not shiny look that looked a bit dressier and more put together than regular cotton tees.

I've tried tees here and there but haven't found anything that would fit the bill. Any suggestions of brands I should try?
