Sounds like you've gotten excellent ideas already. I love the blouse, and definitely prefer it untucked.

I'm also not buying anything new this year, except for accessories! I think colored or metallic footwear can be a great way to amp things up, as long as you're at the sort of party that allows guests to wear their shoes indoors!

Beautiful blouse! I prefer it untucked. I'm petite as well so I know what you mean about lengths throwing proportions off. I generally wear this type of blouse untucked.

I'd love to see a picture of the blouse with the burgundy pants. Angie mentioned adding a matching wrap. Maybe drape a faux fur scarf over your shoulders for a glam/festive look?

Not sure why, just don’t feel like it. I'll have to see if I change my mind :-)

Lovely blouse and that's all I have to say really.

I do like the burgundy pants with the top though and perhaps that will remove the predictable factor you mentioned when teaming it with black.

Whichever pants you choose, I know they will be perfect because you will feel they are. Have a marvellous time.

So many great ideas here! Love the blouse on you and really like the burgundy pants, nail polish, metallic shoes and maybe a velvet clutch? Your burgundy bag matches your burgundy pants, so that's another option (without velvet, though).

Thanks Suz! I could definitely do burgundy or dark denim jeans and shinier bling, especially earrings. Good suggestions.

Lisa p had not thought of the print as Asian but I think you are right. Asian inspired earrings are a great idea. Not sure I want velveteen or textured pants right now but that is also a great idea.

Thanks Aida and karen13 …metallic footwear is a great idea too. I don’t own any except summer sandals but will consider it.

Angie – hmm a velvet something….could definitely do that!

Thanks Joy, Barbara Diane,

Column those are great ideas…will play with them…

Krishnadoux I’m not against the idea of wearing it with a skirt but this sort of longish top with a high contrast bottom like a black skirt usually looks proportionally off to me on my body type. Puts all the emphasis in the wrong place. I do own a black pencil skirt so I’ll give it a try.

RobinF navy velvet would definitely work since there is a lot of navy in the print and tomato red is fab with navy…..

Very cute blouse! And the color is heavenly on you. I like how it constrasts red, burgundy, icy blue and green.
Would you be game to try it untucked over a tube midi/pencil woolen ribbed knit black skirt and opaque tights?
I really like the idea of burgundy bottoms, or even denim with it, and by all means encourage you to try it. But for the event you describe, I feel a deep velvety black would be ideal: something that gives off a comfy cocconing vibe while still remaining chic enough that you are honoring your friends Holiday party. Whatever bottom you choose, pick one that works with flats (that's why I suggested the tights). The topper will also give a definite direction to your outfit: the jacket shown above is super cute and the fit perfect on you. However it seems to me that the occasion you are preparing for calls for something longer, closer to the body, more fluid.

Ooooh--try those pants with your pearls, black shoes, and a black velvet or metallic clutch (treat yourself) as early posters suggested. I'll bet the look is long, lean and festive! Otherwise, black bottoms--including black denim--work. I am loving the juxtaposition of reds, browns and oranges (burgundy falls in there) Angie suggests this season. Reminds me of retro color combos such as pink and purple. So unexpected; so beautiful!

I was thinking along the same lines as Lisa, some sort of textured pants (velvet, suede, waxed, ... ) with pretty flats. If you go the black pants route perhaps metallic footwear? I like it untucked and don't think it needs a jacket.

That’s a really pretty blouse - with a slight Asian feel to it , and I’d work around that . Velveteen jeans or pants ( dark) and some Asian- inspired drop or chandelier earrings . Cropped pants ( in velveteen as mentioned ) would amp up the pretty - factor too . Velvet clutch and the shoes you have posted , plus a fairly bright lip if you can wear it . Ok, now I want this blouse

The blouse is gorgeous on you, Chris. Love it!

I think you should try on your proposed outfit and see how you like it. I don't think it will be too predictable, but if it does feel that way, then maybe switch things up by wearing it with denim (or do you have burgundy pants/ jeans?) and some shinier bling. Keeping things casual but amping up the juxtaposition a bit. For me, ensuring that I have one really casual and one really dressy item is key to making these casual-holiday parties feel workable.

I am considering wearing this blouse to a holiday party DH and I attend every year and the home of very old and dear friends. The party is slightly more casual than dressy but some people do dress up a little. Last year I wore a black velvet blazer, white lace short sleeved blouse, pearls, dark wash jeans, and black ankle strap pumps, and was a little dressier than some but felt good.

The blouse is a tomato red with a lot of light and dark blue in the print plus a tiny bit of burgundy. It was a top pick last spring and a lot of people collected the find, so I’m hoping some of you might have some good party styling ideas. So far I’m thinking of wearing it with slim black pants and black flats, maybe long pearls wrapped a few times., but that seems awfully predictable.

The photos show how I wore it not long ago with jeans under a black blazer. I think the untucked look is much more flattering on me than the tucked one for the blouse by itself. It is pretty warm in our friends’ city apartment so I probably won want a topper, so I expect I would wear it untucked

Would love to hear any styling ideas!!!
