Hi Emily: Yes, she wears a belt. Since there is stretch in jeans, they tend to gap even more in the waist and she feels like they're sliding down. And you're right. She is growing and growing. She's probably taller than what I originally posted. In a way I'm glad that she's into women's sizes because the clothes that teens and pre-teens are wearing these days make my eyes pop out!

Also, this is not an ideal solution (obvs) but since she is young and growing and such, have you tried a belt as a quick fix?

Sorry I don't have much suggestions, but I'm reading through because we are the same weight/height and I have the exact same gapping problem! I haven't found a perfect pair. I usually size for my thighs and then take the waistband in if needed.

Thanks everyone! I had not thought about the tailoring. I should do that for myself as well! And I did not think about the Levi's jeans you have mentioned. Are those the ones that came out a few years ago? I don't even know where to buy Levi's these days, but will try Macys. And thanks for the tip on Forever 21. We have never shopped there.

Thanks again!

Levis curve id worked for me as well although my curves are more in the hip area. It's the only pair that does not gap anywhere and fits snugly on the legs.

I second the vote for Levi's curve ID - bold curve may work for her. Mostly I buy them online, but I've found some at Kohl's, I think Macy's may have some too.

How about American Eagle?

If it's a gap in the back that is easily taken in, is that an option? Not sure how much the tailor would charge, but hopefully not more than $10?

(I think a gap in the back is easier to fix than a pouch in the front, but I'm not a tailor.)

This was just posted last week, could be helpful for you!

Try the Gap "curvy" fit! It works well on me (IT / hourglass).

Gap runs sales pretty often, so you can easily scoop one up for 25% off (40% if you can wait for a month or two; it seems to be the highest "regular" discount they'll run. You can go deeper if you wait to stack sales + coupons).

It sounds like your daughter is looking for a skinny leg opening, so the money you save on a sale can be applied to a tailor; have them narrow the bootcut opening to a skinny one. Including alterations, you should end up at the high end of your $50-75 range, but still within it.

Hi all, I've been trying to help my 12-year-old daughter find jeans that fit, and we're having a hard time because of her preferences and body type. She is 5' 5 1/2" and weighs 116 pounds. She has a very round bum and muscular legs from athletics. Her waist is tiny. Common problems when trying on jeans are if they don't gap in the back, they form a pouch in the front or if they don't pouch in the front, they gap in the back!

So far I've been able to buy her a pair of Kut From the Kloth jeggings from Nordstrom Rack. I can't afford to spend more than $50-75. We tried Gap jeggings, but they didn't work. We tried on Jag, Old Navy, H&M and various brands at the Rack. She wears a women's size 0 or 2.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
