I should have taken a pic in the store but I'm very happy with the makeover. The makeup artist used a color correcting primer from Lancôme that I though did a great job of toning down my redness. I asked for a natural everyday look.

So glad you found some (& at consignment to boot). I really dislike jean shopping although they account for 90% of my wardrobe. I am a curvy hourglass and have a hard time finding flattering washes, cuts hitting the right place, no gapping. I seem to end up with pretty simple cuts and washes and always altering- Catherine boyfriend Kut from Kloth, NYDJ, the Emerson from CoH.
Enjoy your makeover!!!

I ended up going out with my son last night and bought two pairs at my favorite consignment shop.

1 pair of dark BR skinniest and 1 pair of dark J Crew Matchstick that I'm taking today to have hemmed since I rarely wear heels anymore. Total cost $38 plus my tailor will probably charge about $10 to hem. I may still look around the mall as I'll be there today for a makeover at Sephora.

And I'm going to buy a better full length mirror to get some pictures.

If you are looking for a boot cut, I really like the Hudson Petite Signature. Macy's has a reasonable selection of Petite premium denim, but it isn't in the petite department, it is with the rest of the higher end jeans. The Hudson Beth mini Boot in Petite was also flattering. Both have a fairly low rise (to me, not to my teenage daughter). They come in a midrise, but it is not Petite.

I loved the fabric for Joe's Jeans and thought their Provocateur style was good for curvy. The Kimmie style from 7 for all mankind was also good, with a more midrise.

I have recently been jeans shopping and it is pretty frustrating. Some of the ones that fit in the store stretched out like crazy over the course of the day. My advice - ask the SA about how much things stretch, and wear anything you buy around the house for a few hours without taking the tags off. You may find you need a smaller size than you found comfortable at the store. I should have sized down in my purchases - I like comfort , but now they need belts.

I have bought a few non-petite pairs and hemmed them, but you really have to be careful of noting where any fading hits so it doesn't look "off". I even have a pair of mini-boot where the slimness in knee hits my calf and looks bunchy - the slight flare to accommodate my (generous) calf muscle hits too low on my calf. Unfortunately I took the tags off before I realized how much it bothered me.

I would say I'm slightly curvy, slight hourglass. (For reference, the Julie fit at Loft is good for me.) My favorite jeans fits right now are Mother high rise Looker (I get them at a local boutique, and I think they come in three lengths) and Lucky Lolita bootcut or straight leg. I think Lucky makes different lengths, too.

Hi Kathleen -- I am another X - hourglass. I have found that Kut from the Kloth denim fits my curves well, as do Cookie Johnson jeans and Eddie Bauer (curvy or slightly curvy fit) jeans. I have also had success with the Old Navy Rockstar line as the denim fabric is sufficiently stretchy (hugs my curves without pinching).

If you need petites it can be a bit trickier, since many stores still don't carry their petite lines in house (usually have them online). It's still worth trying the regular sizes for an idea of the fit and wash, though, then you can order online later on. Hopefully those who shop petites can chime in about which stores generally DO carry at least some of their petite lines in store. I know that LOFT does, at the least.

Thanks Brie. I've been looking online and it's definitely a bit overwhelming these days. I'm not sure if dark wash jeans with no whiskering are still in style, but generally a simple dark wash in a slim to straight leg is usually my favorite.

Hi Kathleen. I just wanted to suggest that you take the good advice you'll get here and do some online reconnaissance before heading out to the mall. I went to the GAP and was very quickly on overload because of all the different styles : skinny, boyfriend, girlfriend, straight, cropped, cropped flare, and in regular or petite, etc etc. Granted I hadn't shopped for jeans in several years, but still, it's a lot to consider. And that's just one store.

That is a good list. I'm somewhat curvy but not super curvy. My other issue is that I'm 5' 3" so petite jeans would be a plus.

I'm trying to pysch myself up for a trip to the mall where there would be a Macys that I know has NYDJ, Levis and Lucky Brand plus a Gap, BR, Loft and Talbots. If that mall doesn't have anything I could try the other that would also have a Nordstrom.

It's time for me to update my jeans and I'm dreading it. I've gained 7-8 lbs since last summer as my workouts have suffered due to near daily migraines. The board decided my shape was an X hourglass last summer so I'm not sure if that would still be accurate? What styles of jeans are current but not too trendy? And suggestions on where to start my search? I'm a pretty classic type dresser. I'm turning 46 next week.
