Thanks everyone! I appreciate the input. I will try the top & cardigan over my dark denim clamdiggers, but I still would like to find some white ones.

Maya, I tried the top without a belt and just felt pregnant again. We'll see how I feel when I actually go to wear it out. If I have very fitted bottoms, it might just balance itself out.

Becky, I have kind of auburn hair, more brown than red, but I have freckles and greenish eyes.

Dani, I love the third photo--the green top with the citron cardigan and silver belt. LOVE that color combination, it's fresh and summery. I think if you paired it with your dark denim clamdiggers and some silver or white shoes, you'd be all set!

I think if you're going to belt the top without the cardi, I'd look for a slightly wider belt (silver is still a great color, white would be nice, too). The little skinny belt is getting lost under all the fabric.

I'll probably be the odd one out but I think I would prefer it unbelted. There's too much fabric scrunching around. I think a belt should give a top structure, and I don't think that's happening here. The top really seems to want to be easy and loose but the belt is forcing it too much. It looks better under the cardigan because the cardigan gives it the structure it needs. I adore the colors though.

I have concluded that I, personally, only like belts on people with very strongly defined waists. Otherwise it's a nuisance to get the placement right and it just looks like it's cutting you in half, rather than cinching you in. I have a skinny red belt that I like, but I don't feel like I could wear it for long periods of time. It feels tight after I eat and loose when I'm hungry and I get self conscious that my tummy is bulging when I sit down. Overall I just don't like to wear things that I feel conscious of all the time, and a belt is one of them.

Just my $0.02.

Dani, I love the color combo of the top and cardi! The green looks so nice on you. You seem like you have typical redhead coloring; is your hair reddish?

Ah ha! The top looks good with a metallic belt and I quite like the skinny width. Grecian Goddess like. Nice cardi combo. Quite right, it’s not working with the walk shorts. How about pairing the top with the clams you look so good in?

I couldn't find the top online (TJ Maxx purchase), so here are the pictures. Keep in mind that I would ideally wear this with white clam diggers (if I ever find any) but I wanted the white bottoms, so I went with walking shorts.

I found a skinny metallic belt (reversible gold & silver) today so I've put that with it in this photo:
http://i302.photobucket.com/al.....130226.jpg

Use the belt in this photo as a judge of width as I don't think the black looks good with this:
http://i302.photobucket.com/al.....130227.jpg

This photo is how I would probably wear the top:
http://i302.photobucket.com/al.....130228.jpg

Which width? Any alternate color suggestions (I am trying to find a white belt, but didn't want to commit until I determined which width was best). Thanks!

I know, I saw it and loved it. If it was a $500 watch, I would have asked for it from hubby as a gift. It's a cuff watch, with this mod square pattern. Some of the squares are cut outs so my flesh shows thru. I have not had much time to take photos lately, but I think I've worn that watch every day since I got it. It goes with EVERYTHING!!!

Since it is such a cheapie, I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a better quality one now that I know how much use it will get.
Thanks for the idea and inspiration (you're white watch blog entry was what made me notice the watch in the first place).

I hear you, Dani. Could you send a link to the top perhaps? I wore a skinny belt over a long fitted cardigan most of last weekend and I loved this new look (new look for me anyway). I wear wide waist-cinching belts a lot and I’m very comfortable in them. A belt with a tad of elastic, or one that isn’t that heavy, really helps with the comfort factor. You need to tie it quite snugly around your waist so that it doesn’t slide around. A loosely tied skinny belt will slide around and drive you batty.

I’m a big fan of white or cream anything. It’s our black in warm weather. It makes an outfit look clean, pretty and fresh. Big thumbs up to a white belt !

Dani, I am shocked to find out how much use I am getting out of my white accessories this season. I had a pair of white kitten heel thong sandals that I wore maybe twice over the last 3 years. I have worn them at least six times this spring so far. I never would have thought I'd like a white patent purse, but it's my favorite bag and it goes with everything. I haven't had to change purses--which I know some people like to change purses daily, but I'm not one of them. And I bought a white watch (from my sister's Avon catalog--again). I have worn it more often than any of my other watches. So, you may be shocked how much you can wear a white belt. And, if you get cream, you can wear into fall and winter.

Angie, I don't know why I am thinking a skinny belt. I can just picture it in my mind better with this particular top. I also think I might be able to wear it better without having to adjust so much. I will try to take a picture of the top with some belts I have around and get some opinions, I could be off in what I think might work.

Lissy, thanks so much for the examples! I really like the first one! I hadn't thought of checking ATL, but I will do that.

Nicole, I was thinking white or cream too, but I don't know if I'll get enough use out of that with other outfits (but I may just have to accept that). I'm also in shock over the price of belts Who knew?

What is your price range? I'm going to assume the less expensive the better without compromising quality.

I think you can not go wrong with a black patent or metallic belt. They are versatile and will sharpen up an outfit.

I have this and I love it. It's not skinny, but it looks great over cardigans, dresses, and tunics (it's also on sale for a great value right now):
http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....*-1*-1*Y*8

Here's a skinny belt in both black and metallic on sale at ATL right now:
http://www.anntaylorloft.com/c.....;cid=A0001

I also really like this ivory Michael Kors belt at bluefly right now. It has some visual interest, but it's still very versatile:
http://www.bluefly.com/pages/p.....nny%20belt

I also really like double wrap skinny belts that are pretty popular right now. I can't find a good example other than this expensive one. I like the rocker edge it has as well, but I don't know how that fits into your style:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/29.....0423bb4e79

I hope I helped! If you hate all of my examples (I won't be offended), go to http://www.shopstyle.com (a great fashion search engine) and type in "skinny belt" or whatever you are looking for and you can even narrow your search down by size, color, and price. Good luck and let us know what you choose!

I have purchased a top that needs a belt in order to look smart. It's a sleeveless trapeze knit tunic and it's the same green that is showing up in AT this year (bright olive, I guess). Anyway, I was thinking I'd get a skinny belt to try with it, but I wanted to get use out of the belt for other outfits as well, if possible. Where should I start looking? Any examples of what style I should look for?

Thanks!
