Angie, I wish that Pendleton fleece had fit me better; I always love the look of those vintage trapper blanket stripes. I also wish it had a hood. :)

I thought about trying the LLBean but it's backordered until March. I'm not surprised it's out of stock; I see a lot of people wearing it around here. It being so popular is part of why I'm not too excited about having one. I think I'm going to hold out for something extra-long and not tailored. Mid-thigh and slightly fitted just feels a little too "MOTG".

I'm actually feeling the same way about my long down puffer right now -- just a bit bored. I'm not going to replace it because it does its job so well and still looks great after four winters, but it is quite ubiquitous in my area and is seeming a little too classic, tailored, and predictable.

Thank you, Suz! I have already packed up the fleece and the Madewell blazer, but I'm going to play around with the Everlane blazer a bit more. Maybe an actual outfit creation session.

I wasn't too worried about the fleece pilling, since it's sherpa and already nubby, but the clinginess is a deal-breaker. A long fleece, in theory, fills sort of a weird wardrobe hole: something more breathable than a puffer, lighter and less bulky than my waxed cotton anorak or wool coat (and can be squished and crumpled without creasing), machine washable, and not even remotely tailored so it can be thrown on over anything. Wool cardis and jackets don't work, because then I have to have long sleeves underneath. Fleece would give me the flexibility of layering over just a t-shirt on a chilly morning when I know it will warm up. I keep considering a sweatshirt dress, but they're not really warm enough, and would limit me to just wearing leggings/slim pants underneath. I've also considered a puffy skirt paired with a shorter fleece jacket, but I don't love puffy skirts over real pants; again, they only work with leggings.

The three below are all maybe's, but none of them are quite as aesthetically interesting as the TNF one. So, if anyone ever sees an oversized knee-length sherpa fleece hoodie with a smooth lining, please let me know! Bonus points for colour-block, contrasting trim, big pockets, and interesting earth tones. :)

So...I love the Everlane on you and think it will work with more of your wardrobe.

The Madewell stance does not look quite right and while it works well with what your are wearing I expect it won't integrate as well into the closet.

The fleece, while fun, seems impractical to me. I was going to say right off -- won't that thing pill like the dickens? Not to mention the worry about hunting season, LOL! I love it in theory but I just can't see it as an outdoor piece. Maybe more apres ski.

Oh, bummer about the fleece sticking to everything - I know exactly what you mean and wondered if it was lined for that reason. That would be a dealbreaker for me. I just put a very cute but annoying oversized faux shearling vest in the donate bag for this very reason (or maybe I’ll sell it). The inside is soft, but somehow it makes anything I wear underneath ride up and get bunched around. Not a good look or feel!

Hah, this is so interesting! The Madewell blazer (brown) is definitely too small through the shoulders and upper arms. I'm glad the fit at least looks good, but it's that weird J Crew fit model thing Runcarla was talking about the other day. Just so constricted in the sleeves -- and I don't have terribly bulked-up arms. I could keep it if I was willing to only wear it with a tshirt underneath, but that doesn't make sense for a wool topper. Also, I do agree with Janet that the stance is too low.

The Everlane blazer (black/white) is the smallest size available, so sizing down isn't an option, and honestly it doesn't feel like there's any extra room in the shoulders. There's enough space for a sweater, maaaybe for a hoodie. And what is the point of an oversized topper if you can't fit a hoodie underneath? It does have shoulder padding, which the Madewell does not.

I am probably going to return the fleece only because I think it really needs a lining. The fleece is so nubby that it catches on whatever you're wearing underneath and kind of bunches/twists around. No wonder we all wear our puffers all the time -- they glide over everything! I actually tried a very thick fleece with a traditional coat lining awhile back (below -- it was a NAS item I think) but it ran too big for me and the cut was off in general. But I loved the idea. Most long fleeces aren't as long as I want them to be, and most of them are a bit too conventional with a cinched waist and flared hem. I've looked at a bunch now and they're all pretty meh. I really, really want a big boxy one that comes all to my knees. A high-low hem like on an anorak, as Angie mentions, would be pretty awesome. And ideally it would have even more colour-blocking than this TNF one for that vintage 90s fleece vibe. I can picture it; I'm just not sure it exists (yet).

The colour palette thing is so funny. I know hardcore colour analysis people insist your true colours never change, but I feel like my hair is significantly less-dark and my skin is significantly less-pale during this year of outdoor everything and ongoing hair grow-out, and it definitely changes the colours I reach for. Overall I think I'm skewing warmer and lower contrast than I was a year ago, which makes black/white combos less compelling and muted earthy combos more doable. I think with this particular outfit the softer colours are better with the brown blazer, but I'm not sure I have that many pieces that would actually work underneath a soft brown blazer. The glen plaid, on the other hand, is probably a bit too busy for me. Everlane offered this same blazer in a nice dark brown plaid last year that might have been perfect, but it sold out very fast so I never got a chance to try it. I may keep an eye out for one on eBay/Poshmark.

Hi La Ped - Welcome to my world!! This is more my style and because of that I may have a different thought on it than most. First, I love the Everlane blazer on you. It fits you like it fits me. It's meant to be oversized as if it truly was your boyfriend's. I personally want this style not to be tight to the shoulder because (just as with outerwear over a blazer) I often layer with heavier underlayers. I love, for casual, a tunic hoodie under that blazer, where the hem fall at about the same level with leggings or skinnies and boots/booties. Or a heavier knit tunic or sweater. This is my hero piece for layering - cami, v-neck cropped sweater and blazer. Too fitted this look doesn't work. I also love it buttoned with skirted leggings and a small heeled bootie, lace cami underneath. Instant dress up. I wear a blazer everywhere. I wear them casual or dressy. This works well for for everything depending on styling. But to me if you size down you lose the look. If you want a fitted long blazer then check out Veronica Beard - on sale. The Matteo which should be worn fitted at the shoulders and has a nipped in waist, very sharp. But you can't add heavy layers and it is dressier. I like the Madewell. I don't think the colors enhance your coloring like the Everlane does. But if it feels tight that would be a deal breaker for me, unless it works with light layers and you are ok with that. Fit looks great to the eye. I don't agree with Janet on the stance. I think it's an illusion because there are three horizonal breaks. The blazer button at the waist, the bottom of your top and the transition to the pants. I think if you faux or tuck the top it should sit at the level of the button which would make a smoother more flattering transition. also a column of color would allow the subtle pattern of the blazer to star. I think it would look beautiful with a cream top and pants which would set off your complexion and hair. I like the fleece! I think it's fun and cozy and interesting. It's fleece - it's attractive and functional and anything that is like a warm hug is high up on my wish list! Wonder if that baby comes in black!!? It's cold and all I want is warmth right now. I love my Everlane blazers. I have the glen plaid, gray herringbone and black. I wear the first two almost weekly (and yes I bought back ups). If you are remotely a blazer girl, I don't think you would regret the purchase. The black is more a linen feel and it's a more seasonal piece, I have the white one also. For the money, these are extremely good quality and wear like iron. Hope that helps!

Oh, I kind of love the fleece! It looks cozy but interesting, and that’s not a typical cut or length for a fleece jacket — I love the length. I say keep to that!

I love the color of the Madewell on you, but the stance is too low — that low button makes the jacket look too long and low-slung on your torso. I like the fit of the Everlane better. How do you feel about the color? I think you wear that warmer toned Madewell palette really well. I think the style of the Everlane has plenty of staying power since it’s pretty classic.

Hmm. Ok, first I feel the fleece would get A LOT of wear. Then, it seemed to me that with both of the blazers, when open, they were sitting back like they weren’t fully on... and in any case, I liked the first and not the second... but then I saw what people said about the flattering colour of the second and what Angie said about the shoulder fit... but then overall I still liked the slouchier grey glen plaid. And the truth is, it may be ringing my preppy bell... like the second blazer could be more stylish, but tribe always wins...

I like the fleece the best - the Everlane looks a size too big, even for the oversized fit and the Madewell also doesn't seem to fit just right. Could be the camera angle though.

I'm attracted to the fleece topper the most - can't really explain why. Both jackets are nice.

Everything has potential :)

The first glen plaid blazer looks a little big on the shoulders - unless it needs a tug! Try a size down?

The windowpane blazer is a slightly better fit in these photos, but not as good a colour.

I'm not sold on the fleece topper yet. It looks a bit too straight, long and narrow somehow. Like it should be wider with a high-low hemline, maybe? Or the dark low pocket is distorting my sense of proportion. That said, it could be the pics, and look better in person. It sounds like you like it and feel fab in it, which is the most important thing!

I love the fleece!

And I totally understand about the blaze orange- even my dogs wear it during hunting season. The first time DD posted a picture of them in their “vests,” all her college friends were first puzzled - then alarmed when she explained why they needed them!

I like Everlane blazer more, fits you really well. Fleece... I don’t know, I might be very wrong here but because of the drop shoulders it feels like it should be oversized. So, not crazy about it, honestly.

I prefer the cut of the Everlane, but the color palette of the Madewell blazer.

I'm not wild about the long fleece, but I can't dis anyone for fleeces since the ones that make me feel most cosy also make me look like a small bear. I hate blaze orange but recognize the need for brights. I got a blaze pink hat from a NH company called -33, <https://www.minus33.com/produc.....0088481953> and it coordinates with my dog's vest and some ridiculous pink mittens in our communal mitten basket.

This seems pretty easy to me. Or to my eye. The first one, although it fits nice , strikes me as somewhat harsh for your overall colouring and "look". The muted plaid is beautiful - just looks so organic to your style here. The North Face? Give it to me now Love it, and had to admit to laughing about not wearing brown in hunting season . You crazy Americans , you.

All three of my Cyber Monday-ish purchases have finally arrived. I’d love to hear people’s thoughts! Anything jump out as a keeper? I don’t *need* another blazer or another fleece right now, but I did retire some mid-weight toppers this year so I do have enough empty space in the closet to justify keeping something if it’s awesome enough.

The fleece would probably get quite a few wears over the winter, on “thaw” days, but the blazer might be a bit trickier. When I do see people besides my family, it’s strictly in outdoor settings. I won’t have a chance to do blazers-as-outerwear again til the spring (hoping there will be more opportunities to be out-in-the-world then too). It’s hard to say how I’ll feel about plaid in March/April/May (sometimes I’m sick of it by then!) but OTOH, I’ve been waiting for Everlane to restock this blazer in my size since last fall, and I was still eager to try it after a year of waiting.

The only fit issue that stands out for me is that the sleeves on the brown blazer (Madewell) are a little tight, and the shoulders are a bit narrower than I’d like. But I like the rounded front hem and the more casual patch pockets... I suspect the color combo may be a bit too soft/muted on me, although it plays nicely with the colors I happened to be wearing.

The fabric on the glen plaid blazer (Everlane) is a bit heftier, slightly more luxurious, and drapes better. It feels like it was cut for me, while the Madewell does not. I really, really want to keep it, even though it probably won’t get much wear until next year. Does it look like it will have enough staying power to justify keeping as part of my very small smart-but-easily-casualized capsule?

The fleece parka (North Face) is super warm and cozy, like wearing a big fuzzy blanket. Pocket placement is great and the fit is roomy without being ridiculous. I love the soft nutmeg brown. It’s a perfect throw-over-leggings coat, which is exactly how I’d use it. I’m a little hesitant about brown outerwear during hunting season (life in the sticks!), but I always have one or two blaze orange accessories with me this time of year, even just for walking on my road. And since it’s more of a casual piece than a technical piece, it wouldn’t come on big hikes anyway (too big to fit in a pack!).

Not styled, just thrown over today’s super-basic outfit. Showing everything open and closed for consistency’s sake and to show fit. I pretty much always wear blazers unbuttoned.
