I have very straight, fine hair, and while it is now a little thinner, it is silky and smooth. I went for a cut. My hairstylist was snipping away when a woman, perhaps a decade older than me, burst into the room in a flurry and sat down in the waiting area, a bit flustered. My stylist greeted her and then frowned a bit and tried to clarify what she was doing there, since there was no appointment listed. Turns out the woman had made a mistake about her dates and thought she was coming in -- and she <b>HAD</b> to have highlights immediately to cover her greys before she went off to some holiday event. But my stylist was fully booked.&nbsp;</p> <p>They worked it out and the woman got served by one of the other stylists.&nbsp;</p> <p>Meanwhile, all the staff in the place were cooing and commenting on my fab grey hair.&nbsp;</p> <p>I wonder if that client overheard their comments and what she made of them. Her life would have been a whole lot easier without the need for dye! But I remembered those days well.&nbsp;</p> <p>The ones praising my hair were the same ones who tried to talk me out of going grey. I did allover colour for about 3 years before throwing in the towel, mainly because the red dye used to cover the white was fugitive and within 3 weeks was blonde. The blonde felt more uncomfortable than the white. I went cold turkey when I relocated to a new community. It took a year to grow out the coloured bits. I would guess that I'm about 60 white/40 red. </p> <p>Your blonde adventure was certainly nice, but your natural colour is lovely and has more depth. I vote KEEP! I still have a few inches of the old color (lightened as much as possible) on the ends. My stylist has been adding highlights to keep the skunk stripe away and to break up the darker patches in the back. During this journey, I have been blonder than I would like. My stylist uses a toner to subdue the gold. More and more of my own hair is showing up and I really like it. I have a similar style but think you rock yours better;-) I hear what you are saying about lighter at the temples. My new hair dresser ( who I love) told me that women gray faster in front than in back and that seems to hold true for me. I too play with the part to deal with gray streaks- I think the style lends itself to do that.. in my case I was glad I refused highlights but it was hard dealing with the skunk stripe ( my hair is medium brown with lots of red and I had colored to match) hence the stripe. You seem to be ahead of me in the growing out process but it is coming along fine and I am happier with the authentic look just as you are.<br /> Thanks for the “pep” post. Over the years my colored hair became more blonde but my new hairdresser convinced me if I grew it out I'd have mousey hair. We tried lowlights, disaster. I got a new hairdresser, but still blonde, so I said time to go gray--Helen Mirren silver, I imagined. She said, during the process most women do blonde highlights. Alas I turned out blonder than ever!&nbsp;</p> <p>So here's the sad tale from 2013 to now. I'm still mad that i fell for the propaganda.&nbsp;</p> <p>As you will see, from the side it still looks like I have highlights, but is how it grows. It looks blonder in the sunlight. I have very light streaks at my temples that don't show much if I part my hair in the middle. I like to show them. So Helen Mirren I'm not, but I like my hair a lot.</p> <p>By the way, neither of my sisters ever colored their hair. It comes in darker blonde but I can't see a darn gray hair anywhere.</p> <p>I love, love, love having contrast between hair and skin again. Medium contrast which makes it easier to find the clothes I like.</p> <p>Um, I have little or no makeup in most of these.&nbsp;</p> <p>1-3 1990 to 1997<br />4 2013 at my blondest<br />5-6 I think this is 2015<br />6 2017<br />7-10 today with Boden jacket for a Boden post<br />11 My family in the late 1940s. You can see both my sisters were blue-eyed blonds, Dad had straw colored hair, Mom had chestnut, and I had medium brownish-reddish hair. My little sister looks like she is almost as dark as I am but she was a golden blonde. </p>
