I have similar proportions to Elle but I'm sure I'm at least a foot shorter so the effect is less pronounced looking. It has taken me a loooong time to be happy that I am in this long-torso/short-leg camp, at least consciously. I'm<br /> 5' 10", so i must have long legs, right (or so my thinking went pre-ylf). Thanks to angie and all here, i now know how to trick the eye by lengthening my leg line, or sometimes embracing the torso if i so wish to. Long bodied, short legged women have it made.</p> <p>You don't look short sitting down. You can see over the dashboards of cars and trunks of cars - I didn't realize that most people can see the back of their car in the rear view mirror when they're parallel parking - duh!</p> <p>You don't need to be limited by shopping in the petites section - it's easy to hem a pair of pants - not so easy to change the waist shaping of a top.</p> <p>If you gain weight, it doesn't automatically go to your middle making you look short and stocky.</p> <p>I would be happier on your side of the fence. At least I could wear heels if I wanted to lengthen my leg line. One of the things that is so nice about this forum is the wide diversity of body shapes that you see here; it really brings home the point that "average" is truly in the eye of the beholder.</p> <p>Body proportions matter only when you are far enough away from the "ideal" that it influences your clothing choices. For example, someone with a very short neck may find turtlenecks uncomfortable and unflattering, while her counterpart with a very long neck might avoid open necklines for the same reasons. I've always realized that flat shoes and wide-legged pants didn't work as well with my proportions as did a narrower pant with a heel. That knowledge can make clothes shopping less of a hassle.
