Looks like you have great advice on what to pack, so I wanted to say that those boots are fab (maybe not for this trip though hehe)! I like your styling options, though did you try rolling the jeans up over the tops of the boots rather than tucking them in?

Thanks so much, Gaylene! This is so helpful. I have a dark grey bootie with 2.5" heel but I was not planning to take it with me. Anyways, you have changed my mind. Now I will take them and maybe take a pair of flats with me.
Suz, between our trips to London, we should be able to see each other. What does your schedule for fall look like?

Oh, Mona! So exciting! I'm doubly excited because I will be going to London in the spring for a week and I will be able to get packing tips from you!

Although it looks as if Gaylene has us both completely sorted!

I like those boots a lot but worry that they may be ruined in the rain. Also, if you feel better in a slight heel, what about a wedge or a low heel?

I think the reason people suggest starting with the footwear is precisely because it IS one of the trickiest parts. We have to decide how much footwear we're taking, how much room in the suitcase we will give up to that, and figure out which outfits will work with those shoes. (Or buy shoes when we are there, LOL!)

Each year my sister and I spend a couple of weeks in London and vicinity in Sept./Oct. since she and her husband own a house near the Channel south of London. Since we do a lot of walking, regardless of the weather, I usually pack at least two pairs of shoes: one pair is a cream/grey oxford with a 1" heel and the other pair is a dark-grey bootie with a 2 1/2" heel. Both are 8-hour walking shoes for me and I waterproof them with a waterproof spray before I go.

If we are planning to go to the theatre, I'll sometimes toss in a pair of Fidji walking sandals with a 2 1/2" heel that I can wear for a more dressed up look. If we are planning to do more walking in the country, I'll pack a pair of light-weight, waterproofed, walking shoes.

I usually wear dark pants, top, scarf, boots, and jacket on the plane, along with my trench and my Longchamps tote bag. Inside my carry-on is a pair of jeans, another pair of pants, a skirt or dress, a few tops (with at least one long-sleeved and one dressy), a cardigan, a windcheater jacket, undies (including a silk cami which I can layer for extra warmth), and my toiletries. Since everything goes with everything else, I can travel quite easily for 3-4 weeks with this wardrobe.

If I do need something else, I can usually pick it up while I'm over there. Last year, in the first week in October, instead of the cooler, rainy weather that I thought we'd encounter, it was 30C in Brighton near the Channel. I had to pick up a pair of loose trousers and a sleeveless top from the summer sales rack. In previous years, during that same week, I've been layered up in my cami, long-sleeve shirt, cardigan, jacket, and trench with a scarf wrapped around my neck.

I also bring a smallish, nylon bag rolled up in the corner that I can use as checked luggage on my return to hold the goodies that I've purchased while over there.

If you need help putting together a travel wardrobe, I'd take a look at some the capsules posted at The Vivienne Files: http://theviviennefiles.blogspot.ca/

I too love the look of these boots, and it may well be sunny and warm in September, but they won't be much good in the pouring rain. I'm assuming you'll take other footwear for rainier days, so these would be a great option. I like the way you've styled them, especially with the light jean jacket. They add a lot of interest to a casual outfit.

Being from the UK the combination of fabric and colour is giving me pause. It may be glorious in London in September or fall may have arrived. If it is wet and the leaves are falling the pavements can be harsh on your shoes.

Looks wise the boots are gorgeous.

Also, if you love a small heal and can walk a distance in a small heal then I would pack those
