My heels slip also. A shoe store addressed this in a mid-high vamp shoe with a soft cushioned pad where the tongue would be in sneakers. I have narrow heels, low arches and low volume feet. It wasn’t intuitive to address the problem from that location, but it helped to fill the volume. May be worth a try!
Used these successfully:

Ditto everyone in saying that none of the heel inserts I've tried have done a blessed thing. Some shoes like Rothys have elastic backs, which could work for you (didn't for me).

Like Suz and Lisa, I have never had success with solutions for heel slippage. I’ve just plain given up on loafers (pumps are also terrible for this). Sizing down does not help at all because then the shoe is too short and my toes are crunched. And sometimes a narrow-cut shoe fits fine in the heel but is a little too narrow across the front of my foot. For me, it’s a combination of the heel width with the low vamp — I can kinda cheat a better fit out of a higher vamp shoe that laces up, like oxfords and sneakers.

I did have a pair of slip-on sneakers with this issue that I corrected for a long time with Ondo no-show socks. But that’s been the exception for me. I think the heel in those shoes was just slightly too wide and the sock helped the slippage to become less noticeable.

I think I’ve found this especially problematic because I prefer a chunkier loafer style, unlike Angie. Those tend to have stiffer soles and be cut wider, in my experience. Thin, dainty loafers fit my foot better but they’re not my style these days. Ditto to ballet flats. Cute and they fit well, but they make my feet look even smaller and my thick legs look even bigger by comparison.

Maybe this has been mentioned but I have had some luck (with pumps rather than loafers) with the partial insoles that are only under the ball of the foot.

Suz, I have narrow feet AND low insteps and arches!

Kyle, which loafers did you try and are sending back?

FWIW, here is my current loafer collection. All WORKHORSES! (I very seldom wear sandals no matter how hot and humid. Only in Greece and Italy, actually. I prefer covered feet.

ALL loafers are sized down half a size. They are a US6 and I usually wear a US6.5.

All silhouettes are pointier (long toe boxes) - not blunt - to accommodate my long toes.

All styles are dainty and classic - not chunky and platformed. This fits my feet. Form Follows Function - ad FLW would say The chunky styles fall off my feet! Too wide, heavy, and don't suit my style as much anyway, so it's worked out.

All loafers have insoles to fit better!!! My boney feet need padding and comfort!!! I walk a lot.

All loafers have very sturdy soles so that I don't feel too close to the ground. Again, because I walk a lot.

Hope that helps!

Yes, it really depends on the shape of your foot. Angie has overall narrow feet with a regular instep (I think). And she is a whiz with insoles!

But if you have feet that are wide or normal width/ volume at the front with a higher instep, plus a narrow heel, it's just going to be a trickier fit in most cases, though every now and then you will get one that works. The risk with an insole to fill the shoe (for this type of foot) is that it simply lifts the foot too high up and if the shoe has lower sides, the heel will end up even looser -- I've found that need that extra depth at the front of my foot.

I remember going to Nordstrom's in Michigan with former fabber Svetlana. She could not believe her eyes -- I must have tried on 20 pairs of pumps/ loafers and walked right out of them every time.

I never cease to wonder at this. My dad wore loafers every day.
How did he do it?

Mr. Suz has narrow feet with a high instep and he somehow wears loafers, but only from a very specific company.

Donna, what is a tongue pad? This is also interesting me....

Funny - I just bought a pair of those things to put inside the heel of a new pair of loafers that were just too loose. Ended up returning the shoes and did NOT find that those heel things made one iota of difference. However in my case, I think the shoes were simply too big all over.

I have used the adhesive heel inserts to moderate success but I think it was because the loafers I attached them too were made of a soft type of fabric. I have my doubts about how well they'd work on a stiff leather type fabric.

I did use some about 15 years ago with a pair of moderate heel shoes, possibly loafers, that had $100 off and were maybe a bit loose. I used to have sales goggles way more often back then.
They only helped a little bit. I think they did though, although I ended up donating after not that many wears, can’t exactly remember what made me donate.

I have never, ever had success with heel grips, I am sorry to say. And believe me, I've tried every single kind on the market. Either they don't work, or they fall off, or both. I have also experimented with insoles to fix this problem -- to no avail.

Most pumps and loafers that don't have straps or very high vamps flat out refuse to stay on my feet. I did (through dint of YEARS long searching) find one pair of loafers that miraculously stay on. But most do not work.

Kate, do you have a link to these heel cups? I have never heard of them and I am intrigued!

I mostly wear sandals (with straps), sneakers or oxfords (that lace), boots or booties because of my heel issue. I love the look of a low vamp and a classic loafer, but I loathe the clomp clomp, the blisters, and the cramp in my toes from trying to keep the darn shoe on.

I did! I got these (in Finds), on Angie's suggestion, for my Stuart Weitzman loafers. They do help a lot. I didn't have to use the adhesive. Maybe I put them upside down, I'm not sure. I thought I might want to switch them out at some point! So I didn't want to stick them onto the insoles of the shoes. They stay in place well enough without sticking them on.

I initially bought a size too small. Then reordered the next size up. So my recommendation is to go larger if you're between sizes, because you can cut them if they are too big. (I didn't have to cut them, but I figured it's possible.)

One shoe still slips a bit on my heel, so the shoes are not great for much walking, unfortunately. Although I think they work pretty well now with some of my socks. I'm thinking loafers are just difficult for me.

Has anyone had any experience using the sticky insert things that are placed on the inside of the shoe to take up space at the heel? Have these worked for you?
