That sounds reasonable, Claire, I bet there is some kind of hollow structure there. It only does it on certain kinds of floors and certain ways of walking so far.

I am weirdly picky about sounds that shoes make - I've gotten rid of or never bought shoes that squeak when you move or make that - sorry - fart sound when you walk. (Talk about first-world problems...)

I have had several pairs of shoes over the years with this type of heel. It's probably not solid rubber--it would be too heavy. When I have worn all the way through mine, there is a hollow waffle structured rubber in the center. Maybe that's what you're hearing?

Oh, I was thinking they'd be high heels... with hollow hard plastic underneath. That seems really odd to me.

I don't know what that is, but I realized today trying on all of my skirts that my red Fluevog pumps squeak a little. I guess that will work itself out in time? I've only worn them for a couple of half-days without much walking, so we'll see.

It's such a small thing, but I understand how it can bug you!

I just love a lug sole...but I have no idea what is going on. Heels clicking ( on any level ) bug me too, btw.

I thrifted a pair of Liz Claiborne loafers and am wearing them for the first full day today. They make this weird hollow clunking sound when my heel strikes a hard floor. It's almost as if the little heel part is hollow, although it looks like solid rubber. Any thoughts? They don't do it when I put my whole foot down, only when I'm walking normally.

(no, I'm not OCD, why do you ask? heh. Photo featuring my nifty chevron tights.)
