Sarah: I'm learning the same with regard to sweaters as simple toppers. They're less likely to cling that jersey knits, too.

Peri and Shannon: Thanks for the votes! I do like both. I know the cream is staying!

Angie: I've been air drying my hair and just curling the top layer with an iron for a more finished curl. Takes 5 minutes, and the air drying means less damage from heat. Makes me feel connected to Kate Hepburn! I still don't know why I feel such a connection with something to whom I bear so little resemblance!

I really like the black! Fantastic way to bring textural interest. And the cream, well we all need a light top for spring. I have been wearing lightweight sweaters just like I would a long sleeve T and feel very polished when I do. Love the floral skirt too. The tonal floral is cool, and the scale of the print I think is right on and very flattering.

I think I should play with some stylings of both sweaters. There is also a peach version of this sweater, but that color makes my face look the color of olive oil.

AJ: Hope I get to see your new white sweater. Those of your in warmer climes are a great "spring preview" for me!

Lantana: I think I'll put "ravishing" on my make-up mirror this morning. Just to get me going!

Lyn: Stretch pencils are the best --- slim line with no restrictions, except for sitting cross-legged on the couch!

Suz: The last storm just gave us a dusting -- whew! The cold persists, although the sunlight is stronger, at least! I'm so ready to go into my "cool spring" capsule!

I love both sweaters on you. If there is room in the budget and you'll wear them both, keep both! They'll fill different functions. The shape is lovely on you and the texture adds a terrific touch.

The skirt outfit is fabulous! And good for you for pressing it into early service. Way to boss winter around!! (Said by one who intends to put on a dress today despite seriously low temps and yesterday's snowstorm.)

Since I just bought my first white sweater, I say yes to the cream. Perforated and eyelet items seem to be in for spring.

I'm always keen on pretty black pieces too, so keep both! The floral skirt is lovely and will go with both sweaters, yes?

Thanks for the feedback!

The shape seems to strike you all the way it did me -- I'm hankerin' for a fluid fit, but I like a little structure somewhere. Here it's in a tailored but easy fit in the arms. I also like feminine without approaching cute and the geometric take on eyelet seems to fit that bill. It's a split decision for color! I could keep both, if I would wear both.

Aubergine: You're right that light colors that work for my high-contrast self are harder to find!

Sveta: Thanks for the thumbs up with black! I've always liked wearing it, although I look for a bit more softening these days. The open neckline and texture help this sweater, I think.

Unfrumped: I have some great patterned shells -- nice fluid fits, mostly in patterns. Fine gauge sweaters are tougher for me!

ND, Una, ABC, thanks for the encouragement. This time of year it's hard to feel "fresh."

Adelfa: Appreciate your perspective on life with white and cream. It's beige and khaki that slay me --- Cream is softer and brighter. White is always good, as long as it has just a touch of warmth to it -- no grey/white, please!

Yes, keep both. They will fill very different functions. You look wonderful in cream. I've been sort of lazily looking for a cream top--something just like this! I am someone who wants very much to choose permanently between white and cream and I just can't. I wear both. Regarding how cream mixes, I would just try. Probably some combinations you'll be surprised to love, and others will make you want to reach for the pure white. Which is fine!

I vote cream if you're trying not to overdupe and your goal is to freshen for spring. The pattern shows up better, though partly that is photo effect. Then I also get what Sveta is saying- if you know you are going to wear a lot of black it is great to add texture and tonal pattern. Maybe I'm no help!
The skirt is fab!
Tops under jackets have been more if a challenge for me for over a year-- fabric weights, fluid fits, dropped shoulders, all hard to layer over. Nicely tailored and fitted jackets look best over a thin shell, or a fine- gauge knit.

Cream is nice but my word, you really rock the black, Beth Ann! I think eyelet just adds enough texture to make it more interesting than plain black (and allows for a nice "almost black" textured look.

The sweater is really nice on you! I vote for keeping the cream because it will probably feel more like a springy pick-me-up and because things that work well in light colors always seem rarer than things that work in black.

I like the skirt with the layering too!

We're still under a blanket of snow here, and it's so hard to think about spring! Nonetheless, I'm planning on some tweaks to my "Cool Spring" capsule. I found this lightweight sweater at Kohls (Elle). Originally, I purchased the black, but then went back for the cream. As you can see on the cream photo, the front is topped with a tone-on-tone eyelet in a geometric design. It's crisp and interesting. The torso is drapey and slouchy, and the sleeve is close to the arm without being fitted, which I like. While I love the black, I think I need a plain black lightweight sweater or nicely weighted 3/4 sleeve tee for mixing under jackets. The eyelet might be too busy for such a function.

At first, I thought the cream would be unflattering to my skin tone, but I actually think it's bright enough to work. I would use the cream to lighten up my spring outfits. I typically wear optic white and brighter colors, so I wonder about mixing cream, rather than white, with cobalt, chambray and raspberry.

I know you can't see the pattern on the black -- it was dark and I needed the flash. Would you favor keeping the black or the cream? Or neither?

Photo 3 is a bonus pic of my new skirt (more blue in the flowers than shows here). I was determined to wear it on a brutally cold day 2 weeks ago, and I needed the sweater and boots for warmth. I'll like it better with a jacket and booties, but this worked, I think.
