For what it's worth, #2 didn't strike me as particularly trendy or dated. Personally, I don't see many colors as dated, but I also have a different color philosophy than many (I wear fall colors year round, regardless of whether they are on trend).

#2 Skirt is the halogen pencil and is really a size too big. I have not tried washing it, Makrame, but maybe I could test that out since I would be thrilled if it shrank. If it looks dated it might be because it isn't tight enough for a pencil? That comment was funny and useful since the color was my attempt to be more modern!!!

I really love 1 & 3 outfits. Very classy, chic, ever-green styles. 2 one looks good but i think more trendy and can date you w/that bright lavender skirt i think.

Up to you tho!

If you want to judge a piece purely based on the fit, I would post them unstyled. This way it will be easy to asses only the fit and not the "overall" look of an outfit. Don't forget about the hidden holding zone too. If you have some questionable items (especially new or rarely worn items that cost a pretty penny) if you put them aside and do not rescue them after the season is over, you know they have to move on, regardless of the cost of the item since it went unworn.

Well, I am not bothering you guys with the really obvious stuff. This morning I removed a very cute skirt which I love but is too big now. I want to choose the best looking, best fitting, most useful or especially fun items. I don't want anything left that is blah, I'll fitting, etc. I find I have a hard time being neutral about the pieces. If they are new or were spendy I might tend to hang on to them even if they really aren't right for me. I will try to stop cutting off my head so I can get feedback about color too. I find the YLF feedback VERY useful.
I just don't need to have so much, and hope to get some help on what to keep or donate. I have 30 winter skirts!
would it be better for me to post pix of the items NOT in an outfit?

I do think that the jeans in #1 look a bit big... I love the skirt in #2.

Uh.. All of those outfits look better than fine to me. But, if a forced pick, I'd maybe go for the sweater because it's a little wrinkled up in the pic... And then I'd go retrieve it from the Goodwill bag.

When I did my wear everything twice challenge, after I got through the things that just didn't fit right or was worn out, I found that the next stuff to go were the items that didn't fit in my wardrobe. The ones that I would try to use in an outfit, and they just didn't work right. There was also the occasional item that I loved on the hanger, but couldn't get myself to actually wear out of the house. It's hard to assess items in isolation, because part of creating a smaller, more cohesive picture is really looking at the big picture.

Well, I really like all of these pieces (on their own and in these combinations). It looks like they fit you well. The only potential tweak to this outfits I can think of would be trying to layer a longer top, like a long cami, over pants for #1.

BTW, speaking of laundry vs. dry cleaning - have you or anyone else tried washing Halogen skirt instead of dry-cleaning? I am also striving to keep only well-fitting clothes and get rid of anything that looks worn out - unfortunately, sometimes even a few runs through the washer make an item look really old. I am debating how to make the skirts last longer but I am also really bad at remembering to take stuff to dry cleaners.

All these outfits are nice, but how are these colors near your face? The blazer in #1 and #2 can be tricky colors to wear. Also, the skirt in #2 is lovely, do you favor pastel colors in your wardrobe?

I don't see any fit issues with these items. After I purged the easy items: worn, poor fit, out of style, etc. I started to shift gears to the colors. Anything 'warm' colored does not work for me (I'm better in cools) so those items went next. Then items that were 'soft' went after that, as I personally favor stronger saturated hues.

It isn't that I am thinking of getting rid of these items necessarily, just that I am trying to look with a critical eye (hopefully yours!). I tend to hang on to things that may or may not be great because they were expensive or other dumb reasons. I hope to end up with a wardrobe that is smaller and more fabulous by weeding out anything that is just OK.

*gasp* you're thinking of getting rid of the Halogen ponte pencil skirt? Say it isn't so!

Annette, could you say more about why you *aren't* wearing these pieces or why you feel they are on the chopping block?
I really liked the pieces in #2 and 3 as is. I wonder if the jeans in #1 aren't a little too big for you and wonder about the color of the jacket in #1 next to your face - IMO that *can* be a tricky color to pull off, but I'd like to see other pictures before I weigh in.

I REALLY enjoyed reading about Lisa's plan to trim her closet. I am doing something similar and would love to get feedback on what should stay and what should go. By the end of the winter I want only pieces left that fit and flatter and work and play well with the other clothes! Any thoughts on which of those should stay and which should be passed along?
