Joy, the poor woman. Besides the friend who had the growth removed recently, I know several other people who have had more than one growth removed from their faces. I have a neighbor in her 90s, and she used to play golf up in the mountains (5-6000 feet in elevation) in the morning, and lay out in the sun by the lake in the afternoon. She had all kinds of things removed. Like you, I now use sunscreen year round.

A neighbor who was only outside to play golf as a younger woman has had cancer removed from her face several times. She really is hard to look at with only a little of her nose left and other parts gone. She said that she always wore a sun hat and was once a gorgeous blonde. It scared me into daily year-round sun block use.

Lucy, how did you even know about the chubettes?! I only knew because Toronto girl mentioned them. They might be broadening my colors.

Shevia, I think we both get lots of sun. SPF is so important.

When I was visiting the US in December, I purchased the giant pack of Chubettes! I'm a big fan, and I'd never seen so many all in one place! It really was probably my fav thing I bought on the trip, lol. I agree it is uncanny how they all seem to look good on.

Lisaflex, DCT has spf of 20. If if works for you, that’s fantastic. And as far as Coppertone’s SPF 50, who knows how accurate that is. We’re out for hours when we’re birding, and I need all the SPF I can get.

Torontogirl, oh I’m really having fun with the chubettes! The light brown ones are the ones the surprise me the most. They don’t look brown on. The only awful one is the orange one.

Old Chic, I’ve never used Blistex. It’s good to know it has some SPF just in case. I’m glad it works for you.

Elpgal, I can’t answer your question. If you find out, please let me know.

TFS! I am always on the hunt for high SPF lip balm that isn't yucky tasting or feeling. I like Aloe Gator in vanilla, but it is only 30 SPF. I use a Banana Boat Sport for skiing currently (50 SPF), and it is not too bad, but I will keep an eye out for the Coppertone. Did you buy it locally?

Cardiff girl, as a kid, I used to sail on San Francisco Bay, and on mountain lakes while on vacation. The reflected light is definitely a killer. And back then sunscreen wasn’t very good. :(

Janet, yes, please be careful. A friend of mine who skis and hikes a lot recently had an innocuous looking thing removed from the edge of her lip. She sent me some pretty gruesome pictures (one of when the growth had been removed but not yet sewn up). Oh man, I don’t want to go out without sunscreen! Her scar is at least three inches long. I think it’ll mostly disappear. She’s slathering it with something like petroleum jelly.

Rachy, I use Aquaphor, too, but mostly for lips and hands before bed. My son’s pediatrician recommended it for cracked hands, and it works great!

Lips absolutely burn, and they can be susceptible to skin cancer. I need SPF on my lips as well as the rest of my face (skin cancer runs in my family). So I will forgo some other aspect of a lip balm if it protects from sun damage. Thanks for the recommendations!

Spf for lips is essential if you go skiing or yachting as The reflected light can burn your lips and of course if you are prone to cold sores it’s a good idea as well Thanks for the recommendations .

Barbara, which lip balm do you use?

Suntiger, yes, it didn’t even occur to me at first

Lisa, it’s available on Amazon. I usually buy it at CVS, but they don’t have it in winter. Which is crazy because it’s usually so sunny here in winter, and people ski and even golf.

https://www.amazon.com/Coppert.....&th=1

Taylor, I think it works pretty well, and without obnoxious fragrances.

My lips used to to hurt a lot after being outdoors. I finally figured out they were getting sunburned! I tried many lip balms with SPF, but I don’t like fragrances or flavors. I started using Coppertone’s lip balm with SPF 50, and it is a nice neutral balm. Then I put color over it. And thanks to Toronto girl, I ordered Clinique’s Chubette set of 20 mini lip colors. I’ve enjoyed trying different colors. I was surprised how many I like!
