Excellent!

BTW, in case it's useful elsewhere... it has become something of a convention to use the timestamp for a post to link to that post. Blog templates have done this for some time, and I have noticed that apps like Twitter are doing it too.

Thanks re: the profile pic. :-) I was sitting at my Mac and thinking that I really needed to update my profile picture when I noticed my own reflection in the glass table top. Selfie with the iPhone, et voilà!

And it works :-D

In another word, that is exactly what I was after. It never occurred to me that there was a link behind the time of the post.

Thank you.

p.s.
Fab new profile picture, btw.

I get it! And there is indeed an easier way. The reply time under each reply is also a link to that reply.

For example, right now when I look at your reply just above this one it says "5 hours ago" underneath. If I right click on "5 hours ago" (control click on the Mac) I can choose "Copy Link Address" and it will copy the link to your reply to the clipboard. The text for the menu option will change depending on the browser. On Firefox it says "Copy Link Location", and on Safari it is "Copy Link".

Then I can "paste" the link into my reply here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ost-987367

Is that what you were looking for?

Here is my template:

(Thread_Name)?replies=(number)#post-(Comment_Number)

So in this thread:

(Thread_Name) = http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....n-a-thread

(Number) can be easily counted, this is a small thread.

(Comment_Number) = 987367.

And so you get: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ost-987367

to jump to this very comment directly.

It becomes more complicated and loses the point if there are a lot of replies over a few pages, or when I have to search through the poster's history for a specific comment - hence my question.

It's not something I'm dying to use, but in the past it was useful once or twice and I wondered if it can be done in a more elegant way.

If it's too complicated, please feel free to ignore my question.

Ornella, can you elaborate a little on what you mean by "I keep a template in the file where I swap thread name and post"? I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Hi Greg,

There must be a simpler way to do this, right?

At the moment I keep a template in the file where I swap thread name and post, but it's somehow too clunky, because it involves too many open windows to get the right post etc, so I sometimes think it's not worth it.

Any quick recipe how to do this?

Thanks in advance.
