Angie, when the home improvement mood strikes, you have to embrace it, pearls and all.

Rabbit, your story is hilarious!!! I'm always anxious for my compost to be ready, but not THAT anxious. I'm with you on the back tan-I think I might have a permanent line. Your shoes remind me of an old pair of merely I used to use. So comfy and soft soled and ok in wet grass. Might have to replace those.

Joy, glad to know I'm not alone with my bright dish/gardening gloves! That took was a gift! I only use it occasionally because every time I feel like I'm gardening with a deadly weapon. I tell you one thing, clay and roots don't stand a chance.

Karie, I'm trying to be better about ball caps and protecting my face. It must be such a chore to garden with allergies. Good for you for getting out there when necessary!

Very nice RAO (Randomly Assembled Outfit)! Yard work for me means full coverage - long pants (old sweats) and a long sleeved tee - as I am allergic to grass/weeds/etc. and will itch like crazy. Prescription sunglasses and a Phillies baseball cap are a necessity.

Rabbit, I was entertained reading about your mom. I actually use full length bright pink kitchen gloves when trimming bushes or have arms elbow deep in compost.
Meredith, that is a wicked looking tool. The bright yellow gloves are a great touch.

Woohoo! You are READY.

My must wears when working outside:

-- full back coverage on sunny days (you know when you get a sunburn just at that strip where your tee rides up over your jeans when you are bending over? Hate that.)

--shoes I can toe off in the garage and that won't soak through with wet grass

--denim I can kneel in, and don't care about getting dirt stains.

Okay I have to tell you about the most embarrasing thing my mom ever wore when I was a kid. She decided that the most efficient way to break down the compost was to spread it out over the driveway and run over it with a mower. She wore: a shower cap, a dust mask, goggles, full length bright rubber gloves, steel toed boots, an old puffer coat of my dads that had been partly eaten away by car battery acid, and baggy mom jeans. The neighbors were entertained. ;)

Hah. You real life ROG very well. Colourful and accessoried.

I was wearing my pearls the last time I painted our doorway.

It's been so much fun to peek at everyone's ROG posts on breaks during my massive yard clean-up project.

I really wanted to try the tool out myself, but instead I have a randomly assembled outfit by grabbing what I needed without regard for the overall look. I ended up stealing my husband's hat, wearing my pink athletic shoes, and added yellow dish gloves (because I am deathly afraid of spiders in wood piles). Add in my awesome mini pick-ax for the ultimate accessory. Soooo stylish!

And I'm actually really curious to know if you all have must-wears while working outside. I have to have flexible soles (even when shoveling), loose jeans, and I much prefer cotton tops to performance fabrics.

Now, back to the brush pile!
