The local MWWH carried the linen/rayon blend shorts I mentioned up above. Tried them on, and loved the brown, and the navy is a no brainer for my closet. At BOGO - I brought them home! Now, if the weather would just co-operate!

I'm neither a lover nor a hater. I have a fair number of pieces of pure and blended linen, but really because it's what's there to buy in the summer. I actually prefer a cotton gauze/crinkle type fabric (popular at the Gap, Roots, Old Navy etc) for super casual summer tops. I'd love to waft around in a linen dress, but I look incredibly frumpy in them . I actually wore a linen woven t-top (POMP) and a linen barn jacket (White Stuff UK) yesterday and caught a glimpse of myself in a store mirror. Yuck , is all I can say. Very frumpy indeed. I wear long sleeve linen shirts as swim cover-ups and good-quality linen pants to work in the summer with a black t-shirt . As long I don't wear too much of it at once, I am ok, but I fear it skews , well, frumpy , on us older women . I'd love to be wrong though.

I really like linen! I like the heft and the drape and the handmade feel. I am at peace with the crease, although I admit that I may prefer the gentler rumple of a linen-cotton blend.

In any case, I will be embracing these fabrics more in the coming months. I am pursuing an aesthetic/narrative/persona for this summer that relies less on color and pattern and more on texture for interest. The crease is a feature not a bug! More to come...

Although I don't own any linen bottoms at the moment, I have had linen pants in the past and enjoyed them as an alternative to shorts on hot days.

I have a long sleeve white Rails button-up shirt with palm tree cut out from last summer that helps add some polish to my summer shorts and is a refreshing change from graphic tees.

From JCrew I have a navy long sleeve button-up that looks excellent with white denim, but I noticed last year I didn't wear the darker color often in the heat. I typically wore the navy shirt with white denim for dinners in a/c settings.

For the upcoming summer season I added two new linen shirts. A French blue long sleeve from JCrew, which I'm guessing I'll wear more often than the navy.

I also added a pink RL short sleeve button-up shirt because I'm thinking it could be a nice alternative to short sleeve graphic tees with my shorts.

I love it, as Angie mentioned. I was late to the party. I used to resist it because I found it scratchy. I am still careful about tops, because that bothers me. But for skirts I can tolerate it. With washing and wear I find it softens up big time and is really a pleasure to wear in our heat and humidity. I find cotton stiff and heavy by comparison and viscose sticky.

If I fall off the fence like Humpty Dumpty, I will land on the linen side. I don't mind the wrinkles, but the last two linen shirts I bought were quite scratchy. I just kept washing them whenever I had a load to put in, but it was annoying. Also, why do so many shirts have long sleeves?! This seems contra-indicated for something I want to wear in sultry weather. I do have two short sleeve camp shirts from Quince, but again, I had to wash them multiple times before they were comfortable, and the black one lost some of its depth.

You can still find Talbots Irish linen second hand, so I think I will seek those out this summer.

I’m not a fan because of the creasing. I do have linen in my 3 pairs of shorts- 2 pairs are linen-viscose blends and one pair 100% linen. I don’t iron them as I hate ironing and do it maybe once a year if I’m lucky. So I only wear the shorts very casually on hot days, they never go to work or to events, they only go to the supermarket, for a haircut or similar. I don’t feel polished in them. There are quite a few days in summer though where I mostly stay home, and they are good for hot weather.
I prefer viscose as a fabric, it doesn’t seem to crease.

I enjoy linen. All these pieces have been well worn - the chocolate linen pants have now been converted to rags. I will look for a replacement of a similar type next spring/summer - they were awesome for travelling, summer nights, working at home.

The dress and the shorts don't crease too badly, the shirts and skirt are more rumpled.

I tend not to wear linen to work unless it is a casual day. I wear at home or on vacation or at the beach.

Yes, I am-always loved a wore linen. But not really button down shirts-as I hate shirts- rather all other kinds of clothing. I have pants, skirts, dresses, tops and a few blazers. Have some in knits (tees), too but those are mixed fibres. I don't mind some wrinkles -in summer and for casual -and I just am in love with the subtle texture of the fabric-elevating plain items from a boring smooth surface!

I prefer mixed linen now - like 45%linen 55% cotton, or linen/modal mix. The mixed fabric is a bit softer and easier on my skin. I've got printed linen/cotton jackets from Poshmark ( Chico's previous collection from i don't know when - lol ) - instant workhorses that I can layer now for work . I did wear 2 of them when I was in Seattle a week ago .

In the Texas heat, linen and gauze are my go-to options. Slub cotton for tees. Gauze is my favorite for tops, easy care (more forgiving on wrinkles). Linen I like is hard to find but I do have a couple different options in my closet - Everlane, jcrew, and a few others do a decent job on linen options.

I'm another on the fence. I own several linen shirts and several mixed linen with some other fibre items.

I love the look of linen when it is freshly ironed. I love the way it holds colour. High quality linen items (and especially linen blends) can drape so beautifully! And good quality linen also feels good on my skin in the heat and humidity.

But...I admit...the wrinkle factor does get in the way of my enjoyment. I can't completely make peace with the crease. :)

I'm much happier with my linen-cotton blend items -- those barely crease at all, especially the really high quality ones, like my Dries pants. I also have a linen-wool blend jacket from Paul Smith that is truly brilliant! Does not crease. (Both of these were consignment purchases.)

Not all blends work brilliantly, though. I have a Zara linen-viscose blend outfit that does tend to crease up over the course of a day, though at least the creases fall out if you stand for some time.

I would probably resign myself to the crease factor much more easily if I felt more geniune need for linen. Here in the west it is much, much less humid than Ontario's, even when hot. So there is less strong need for linen. This must be similar to what some go through in their personal debates about wool or cashmere. If your climate is not truly cold, how much potentially itchy wool or pilly cashmere do you need in your life?

So there is that -- my linen blend items also work better for my climate than pure linen. If I move somewhere very hot, that could change!

JAileen -- I love the look of that toile shirt! Love toile pattern!

I'm on the fence. In theory I think I love linen for summer. In practice I have a skirt and a blazer that don't get as much wear as my cotton pieces. They not as soft as I would like them to be, even after plenty of laundering. I don't like the creasing, l iron as little as possible. I think in practice I prefer good quality cottons. Maybe linen blends are better. I have one pair of blended trousers but they still don't get as much wear as I thought they would.

Glad linen is working for you and others, Carla! Your pieces are fably suited to you. Isn't it a relief when you find a formula that works for hot Summers. Milk it :)

Personally, I've broken up with linen. It worked extremely well when I lived in Asia and Africa - especially in the '90s in hot and very beach-y Cape Town. Much like it works well for Brooklyn in beach-y Sydney! Linen no longer works for me now. A blog post on the subject is in the pipeline.

Frankly, no. I have had various linen pieces in my life and I still have some (a dress, a pair of pants and a jacket) but I cannot say that I really love this fabric. I find viscose much fresher, and then I don't like the wrinkle factor. That said, your pieces are very nice!

Absolutely! I’ve been wearing 100% linen for 30+ years, especially in the last 20, when it became more accessible to me. I prefer it to 100% cotton fabrics , I like that it has a bit of texture and looks more organic with wrinkles.
A long and a short sleeve white button down shirts, pants and a linen blazer are backbone of my summer wardrobe. I’m so happy that I was able to purchase a number of summer linen dresses and wear them on repeat in the hot weather. I’m not so lucky with linen knits, though. It’s more difficult to find suitable 100% linen sweaters. I have a few but they are mixed fibers. I don’t like linen t-shirts but I’m very particular when it comes to t-shirts.

I have several long sleeve linen shirts from Macy’s house brand Charter Club. In summer I wear them with cropped pants and sandals, and this is my “dressy” uniform for church, concerts, doctor’s appointments, etc. I think they look a little nicer than a tee, and are comfortable, too. The drawback is ironing.

I just ordered one in a toile pattern.

I think (hope) I’ve cracked the ‘hot summer’ comfort codes, and I’m really looking forward to wearing my linen garments again this summer.

I’ve added a new long sleeved light blue shirt from Uniqlo, and whilst sifting through items on offer at MWWH (Canadian brand Mark’s Work Wear House) I spotted what I think are the same pleated linen Bermudas (see below) but in new colourways!

Are you a linen lover?
