As Angie said, this is part of the process and the fun. For me, things that fit very well and I have wore happily and are still in good condition get put in holding, things I never wore and now look at and wonder what I was thinking get sold or donated.

I always resist this kicking and screaming. I don't want to fall out of love! I don't mind new loves, but I don't want to lose the old ones. As a result, it takes me a long time to change. I will keep wearing things even though I'm feeling more content than thrilled. Then I will keep wearing them even when I'm not so content. Third stage, they will stay in my closet and I will ignore them and refuse to think about it or admit the love isn't there. Fourth stage, holding zone. I'm telling you, purging takes me a long time. Good for you for embracing the change!

I've gone through the same process this year. I've stopped buying button up shirts and only like to wear tunics. I just wear my skinny jeans. My shoes are becoming less traditional. Part of it is because I started taking outfit photos and have seen what looks best for my shape. I've put a lot of things in the guest room closet and suspect that I won't be wearing them again. I don't think that you are getting old when you change - I think it's the opposite, you get old when you don't feel like changing.

I've gone through several style changes, mostly due to a change in lifestyle, but also due to a change in body shape. Becoming more informed about how to wear things helps. Big thanks to Angie and a couple of other style bloggers.

I've been going through a lot of changes as well, some of them the same as yours. For instance, I am wanting only pants that taper at the ankle as well; they look much better on me than straight legs. My plan is to purge my closet (I'm doing it bit by bit) and then put the pieces that I had liked the best in a holding zone, just in case my likes and dislikes change back again. The pieces that I didn't wear a lot anyway might just get sent to consignment or Goodwill.

It's kind of fun to see ourselves change like this, but it can also be sad to let go of a wardrobe item that we loved so much, say, a year ago. I am giving up a pair of jeans that I loved a lot a couple of years ago and wore umpteen times, but the rise is unbelievably low and I don't like rises that low anymore.

My dear always trying, this is why our wardrobes are a constant work in progress. Our style evolves because the internal and external factors that affect them change. This in itself is a fun process - to track your changing style preferences, as you are doing on this thread. Enjoy your refreshed look.

Hmm, that can be a question for sure--are we in a style shift for good, or a seasonal or fashion whim?

It's easier for me if I can tell I don't like something due to something that will never change--scratchy itchy fabric, or shoes styles that I've learned always end up pinching eventually. Or fits that accentuate an area that I am not comfortable about no matter who says it looks fine. Or a color that I thought worked, but then I found other, better ones.

Some other things I can see could be things my "eye" has adapted to. Fits can be in that category. One minute I can like the really super fluid, oversized fit and then I can go.... not so much. But I never like the tight tops including fits that are often shown on the models. Pant lengths, totally. I mean who ever thought we would wear these ankle pants! Or start rolling our jeans up like in the '50's again! They may have longevity because I think their role is to show off shoes! and not require hemming! So they may turn out to be practical, like skinny jeans (those are not for me, though).

So I do use a holding zone for things that still look good but I seem to not be choosing. I have too much of those items, though, so hope that over a few months or a year I'll figure out if they need to be gone or cycled back in and let other things go by attrition.

It sounds like you could use a holding zone for those dislikes, at least for the short term. If there is no room then it's probably time to let them go to clear space for what you do love to wear.

Maybe it is just getting "old", but am finding my likes and dislikes changing. Or more to the point it is just things I do not want to wear anymore. I find myself not wearing loafers, flats, maxi anything except my silk crepe evening skirt, any skirts or dresses that are not just at very bottom of knee, not really wanting to wear my booties that are just at ankle, but loving my higher shaft ones. Am disliking straight leg jeans or pants of any sort. Have two pairs of Michael Kors, one camel color and other olive that I am thinking of trying to make them skinnier at the bottom. Am beginning to like flares, and for dress up some of the very wide leg pants. Also not wearing infinity scarves-just like big blanket ones or the small square ones, or long silky ones that I can wear not tied, just draped around neck. Loving long necklaces and layered necklaces, and vintage pearls of all kinds.

All these changes seem to be happening at the same time. Seems my tastes changed with trends and sometimes seasons and this more abrupt changes are finding me with quite a few items in my closet that I just want to purge. But then again maybe I should hang onto them for a while and see if I am really settled into my dislikes.
