I just bought the SE Petties and am liking (among other things the look of the cream (bone) poking out of a wide leg jean with something white or cream worn on (tee or blouse) just as an example. I also plan to wear them with my cream skinny jeans. I, too, am wanting to "light up"! It just feels more modern. I bought the Munro animal print bootie last year and really like it too. It is surprising how much it goes with.

Regarding practicality . . . I was hoping to spray the cream Petties and wear them through the winter except in really slushy snow but I'm not sure how well that will work -- I guess I need to do some more research/thinking on how well they will hold up (I certainly don't want to ruin them right off the bat!).

Oh, and I agree that the booties will go great with the color palette you list!

Both are beautiful, but they seem very different to me. As if you are choosing between two different wardrobe holes to fill, if you will.

If your budget permits, both would work, and I don't think they would "get in each other's way".

I've had my eye on these SE Petties.
I already have these in a python print and putty suede and love them.
My attempts to "collect" these have failed

We don't wear shoes in the house, just socks or slippers, or yay, bare feet in summer.

So the winter use of the cool shoes is maybe driving somewhere that I know has a clean sidewalk and parking space, and then going inside. I agree, last winter was just evil.

My desire for shoes and enjoyment of them does not have a correct and proportional relationship to the time that they actually spend on my feet.

Yup. Totally hear you on that!! And yes....la Canadienne is the way to go. Or similar.

So do you wear footwear inside your house? I ask because with last year's winter, I found that all my gorgeous booties pretty much went unworn from mid-December until the end of April. It was heartbreaking. In previous years we'd had enough spells without snow that I could pull them out for a day or two....but last year, I was in slippers at home all the time. Occasionally I put the booties on in the house just because I wanted to wear them (and after all, the soles were not exactly dirty...).

My big fun was talking WIW photos. I got to put my ostensible footwear on then.

My winter climate is pretty much the same as yours as far as I can see. I have a separate dog walk / exercise capsule for my extended outdoor time. It mostly involves La Canadienne and Patagonia. I don't think I can get light color into that unless it's those white moon boots!

I like both options but see them as serving slightly different purposes.

I am always trying to "lighten up" in winter. It's tough in my climate.

I think the Chie booties are dressier and more feminine/ even bombshell and would work well with dresses and skirts as well as pants. They would blend easily with other prints, IMO. I have several pairs of animal print footwear (one leopard and one snakeskin) and I find they harmonize surprisingly well with almost everything. Maybe not plaid pants, but otherwise, it's pretty easy.

The J. Crew ones are gorgeous, too. They seem more like a trouser boot to me although they might also work with skirts and dresses.

With fair hair, I love having a lighter bootie option for winter. It's great for bookending with my hair and allowing me to wear lighter toppers/ jackets. But in my climate I still find it pretty tough to wear light footwear in true winter. Keep in mind that I am almost always walking, in a very slushy, snowy, grubby city with uneven sidewalks. From late December through to April, it's pretty much snow boots when I am outdoors.

I have no problem with print anywhere as long as it doesn't look like a total mismatch with everything else. I thought maybe since the boots are dots rather than all out leopard markings, it might be easier to mix and maybe catch lighter color hair as opposed to dark boot picking up dark clothes colors. My typical (but not set in stone) fall look is something like blue / black jacket or cardigan, darkish print top, jeans.

The JCrew booties are gorgeous, certainly would work with all the colors you've listed. The Chie Mihara booties have some blue in them, so they should also work quite well with those colors (plus they have that strip of cognac which is fun). They're lovely! How do you feel about print on your feet?

I am thinking I would like to incorporate some lighter pieces into the fall / winter look this year, and in particular try some lighter color shoes.

My existing overall color palette for the season tends to be blue, grey, black, purple/plum, some teal.

I could see these J Crew cream booties fitting in easily. (Finds, below)

But would these Chie Mihara or similarly light animal booties work, or be too jarring with the other colors? http://www.chiestore.com/mend_leo_1429.3php
