I was thinking the same thing as Angie -- that the ruffles were the hold back on the black leather jacket.

I really like both of these. I like the simplicity of the second one. If you don't like the way it looks open, you can put a bit of fashion tape to create a collar on both sides. I do this on a lot of my clothes, I open up the neckline because open necklines look better on me.

I think leather jackets that are on the thin side are great layering pieces in the Bay Area (if I remember correctly, that's where you are). You're definitely onto something when you say it should be treated as a jacket or topper, not outerwear/coat. Those are both gorgeous jackets, but I would evaluate what it is about the material (leather) and color (light, dark) and cut (biker, ruffles) that affect whether your existing and the new jacket would be wearable items.

Perhaps it's easier to wear a white leather jacket when you are blonde? I'm not sure.

I do have brunette clients who LOVE their cream jackets and leather jackets. I know that brunette Inge had a white pleather jacket and wore the heck out of it - which is why she wants a real leather version.

Perhaps the ruffles are also putting you off your current DVF leather jacket?

I like both of these jackets. I can't tell you if it is impractical or not. Really depends on your lifestyle, do you have small childre/pets, are you up for the care and cleaning a white jacket requires?

I second Suz. Are you sure you want leather and not just a white topper. Here is one I was watching from afar (I can't do white, not with a 15 month old!).

tough one. I also have some leather I bought last year that is not seeing as much wear as I might have thought. Part of that is climate I think, but part of it is getting used to reaching for leather, since I never have had the option hanging in my closet in the past. I will be curious to see how much wear the jacket(s) get over the course of this year as the weather changes.
I might try reaching for the ruffled one a few more times before buying a new light one, just to see what your 'road blocks' are about wearing it.

Well...these are both gorgeous jackets!!

And I can't really talk you out of trying either one. I wouldn't mind trying them myself.

But. IF you are not wearing your other leather jacket, is there a reason you are drawn especially to leather? Perhaps you just need a white or light topper? Going with a different fabrication might be a more cost effective way to meet a need.

The second jacket does look as if it's meant to be worn closed more. It also appears to be a heavier weight leather, i.e. to be worn outdoors vs. as a blazer. So that might be a consideration if you are looking primarily for an indoor topper.

I'm not sure where you live, Auburn. I think climate also plays a big role in how wearable a leather jacket is, and what type is most practical.

This season I find myself drawn to off white/light leather jackets.
This Theory one started the fascination:
http://www.theory.com/leather-.....xe4ZWjC43A

It's far more "moto" than my typical look (I veer towards classic/feminine) but I'm drawn to it.
And then today I found this one--an even softer color though I'm not sure I like the way it looks open as much as I like the Theory version:
http://www.shopbop.com/leather.....orId=12984

I know Angie wears hers consistently, but I'm hesitating. I have a fabulous black DVF ruffled/asymmetrical leather jacket that I bought several seasons ago. It was expensive (on par with these white ones) and I find that I rarely wear it for some reason. Perhaps because I keep it in my coat closet (and when I'm reaching for a coat, it's usually because I need something relatively warm) when I should treat it more like a topper/blazer.
Anyway, I'd love input on whether this is something I should let go (b/c it's impractical, expensive and not totally in line with my style persona) or whether I should go for it because I'll have it for years, even if I don't wear it on a daily basis.
