Thanks for all your suggestions. I will be looking into these (as I yank at my socks again).

Try the kiddie socks. I used to sometimes buy XL socks at gapkids (I am a size 7.5 but my feet are narrow and low-volume so I like my socks on the small side) but unfortunately they don't seem to make XL anymore. You might be able to fit into a L though? Only thing is that they tend to be on the short side (you know, being for kids and all...)

I do like Gap grownup socks too (and they stay up on me OK) but I tend to put holes in the toes quite easily these days.

Smartwool is another option. They are pricey and better for cooler temps (being washable wool) but they come in sizes, not just the one size fits all.

if you are looking for socks -- i recommend smart wool -- they come in sizes, are not itchy and are totaly machine washable. (i also wear a size 6, and i can't stand it when the heel is half way up to my ankle)
for trouser socks i like the ones from target

UGHHHHH... this happens to me toooooo! I hate it when it happens! It makes me want to punch a wall!

I second the kid size recommendations and there's a type of microfiber-bamboo combo black sock at Walmart (of all places) that actually were wonderful. I bought about 30 pairs of them and wore them all out over a course of 3-4 years - back when I still wore pants.

I really like goldtoe socks, but I wear a size 9-9.5 shoe, so on the upper end of the sock scale

kellygirl - that is interesting what you said about bamboo socks. I got my most prized pair of socks at TJMax - they say "bamboo" along the bottom so I assume they are made of bamboo (although I don't know how much). They are awesome and if I could find them someplace I would buy 20 pairs. I just recently bought a few more pairs with bamboo in them. They don't feel the same as my prized pair and I haven't worn them yet. We'll see.

This happens to me and then they pool at my toes. Ugh! I have started buying really stretchy trouser socks.

I would try children's socks just to see if the fit is better. I can see how if they are too big, they might work their way off. In my experience, bamboo makes for a slippery sock. My foot is on the smaller end of the spectrum (but bigger than yours) and I noticed that socks with bamboo twist and slip like crazy. I gave all of mine to my size 9 foot daughter who loves them and has no problem keeping them on.

I ended up picking up some washable wool socks at Costco last year and they are my faves--cushy and fairly snug fitting. They are piling but I figure no one sees them but me. Good luck!

I don't know if this has been discussed in the past but does anyone have any recommendations for black sock that actually stay up! I am wearing a brand new pair today (from Nordie's I think) and they will not stay up and are driving me crazy!! I actually have them folded over the top of my boot trying to keep them in place. It is so frustrating but it doesn't seem so matter what I buy, I have this issue. I sometimes wonder if wearing kid's socks would make a difference since I wear a size 6 and most socks are for size 6-10. Any sock wisdom out there?
