I'm so impressed with your methodical approach!
You've found some great pieces that should be the backbone of your wardrobe. I love that tuxedo shirt on you! I agree with the others that the jeans in #1 should be hemmed a little.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I feel like the shirt in #4 looks a little big on you. Does it feel big?

The trench looks beautiful on you! You were wise to snap it up.

Ah, thank you very much Suz and Angie!

Suz, I am glad my tuxedo shirt post helps. I have actually bought the boy shirt in plaid too (size 2, quite loose) and will post a photo for you to compare the fit.

Angie, those are two different pairs of jeans #1 is AG skinny/straight in a fairly light wash, #2 is Current/Elliot true skinny in a more medium wash. #1 are definitely longer than #2. Do you think that the size of the J Crew shirt is correct?

You score A++++ on this Spring Refresher Shopping Assignment. So impressed!! All killer pieces!

I also think the skinnies could use a little hem. A few inches maybe. Hmmm. They look lomger in photo #1 than in #2. Are those the same pair of jeans, Tanya?
Tanya, you did really well on your shopping. Love both the jeans, though I agree with Denise you might want to shorten the first pair a bit. I have never tried AG, but now I feel as if I want to. I really like the Current/Elliots, too. And I hear you on buying premium denim. It does make a difference and if you wear it every day, it just makes sense.

Love the polka dot shirt! Those are great. I am going to check into what the shipping etc. might be for VS and consider.

I also love the tuxedo shirt! And you have got me thinking -- I was planning to order it too, but wasn't sure about the size. Angie thought maybe the 0, but looking at yours, I suspect I would need the 2 as well. My shoulders are pretty broad. I would take a 0 in the BF shirt there, but this is a bit different cut, it seems.

Ah, thank you so much for your kind words Claire! I am blushing! I am in big awe of your thrifting skills, you always find the most amazing things.
I think you would look lovely in AG jeans. I find the fit a bit on the smaller side. These are size 27, and I am in the middle of 25/26 in most of premium jeans. I could have gone for 26 but those would be skin tight, and I did not want that in a summer jean.
Yes, VS does stand for Victoria's Secret. Like Express, one can find some nice stuff in their catalogs if you can get past the silly styling and clubby clothes. The solid blouses are on sale:
http://www.victoriassecret.com.....earch=true
and the polka dot one is on clearance:
http://www.victoriassecret.com.....ueType=CLR
There are also coupons floating around to be used on the top of that. They let you use up to three ones simultaneously, though not of the same type.

Tanya, I'm SO impressed with the job you did shopping for these essentials! I am furiously taking notes on how you purchased two (!) pairs of premium denim. These jeans do not look dated to me at all, and the mid-rise looks so comfortable and practical. I need to try on some AGs. The shirts all look great to me and I'm wondering where you bought the sleeveless ones. Does VS stand for Victoria's Secret? I really like the dotted one. It was a stroke of genius to pick up that trench right now. The fit looks perfect and I'm sure you'll wear it for years. You are such a smart shopper! I'm in awe.

Now that's what I call SWAPing (shopping with a plan)! Nice work! You made some great purchases, and I especially love the story about the trench. It's wonderful when the perfect item finds you so you don't have to find it. I like CocoLion's suggestion of shortening the first pair of jeans, that is if the length is an issue for you.

Thank you very much for your input ladies!

Denise, you bring up a good point about the length of the jeans in #1. I do like them to have some scrunch ( I find that hip balancing if it makes any sense) but maybe it is a bit too much? I am curious to hear what others have to say. I don't mind hemming them if it is needed. As to whether they are straight or skinny, I measured the leg opening and it is 12.5". Back in the pre-jeggings days these would be more of a skinny jean (true straights were around 14" in the opening) but today they do look more straight. Either way, they are exactly what I was looking for, whatever they might be classified as. And thank you for your reassurance about the shirt fit, you are so on the top of the current tendencies that it means a lot to me coming from you. The shoes are actually not flat, they have a small wedge, about an inch, but thank you.

Agnes, thank you very much for your opinion. I am curious what exactly about jeans #1 makes you think they are a bit dated: the wash, cut or the length? I couldn't find the original stock photo but have enclosed two other ones here, first one that shows the wash accurately and second one the cut, and the links too.

http://www.shopbop.com/stilt-c.....rg-2178999

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/.....03=5630585
I'm so impresed by your rational approach, and the choices you've made are all very versatile and beautiful. I adore the trench, and absolutely agree that it was very wise to pick it up now. The tuxedo shirt looks amazing on you, no need to size down. I have ordered it, too, but I chose a more fitted size, so I might regret that. BUT - being more curvy than you, I think I will like the more fitted version a bit better on me.

I like the second jeans. The first ones are nice too but look too long. I would shorten them. But that just may be my personal preference as my eye has grown used to less stacking as in the second jean. Also the first are not skinny jeans, they are definitely straight legged jeans, is that what you wanted? I do think it's nice to mix it up and not just have that one super skinny silhouette.

Everything else look 100% fabulous, good job.

You look so good in skinnies with flats! I wish I could pull that off. But alas, I need heels.

ETA -- I like the tuxedo shirt in the size pictured. It looks neither tight nor loose, so just right. I think this shirt has longevity in a fit like this.

Thanks, that is good to know. I tried the size 6 in a boy shirt and it was pulling slightly across the bust so I went with an 8. Since I'm an apple I think the roominess around the waist will work in my favor. The tuxedo shirt looks great on you, not too big at all...the relaxed fit is very current.
Thank you very much Natalie!

I got the J Crew shirt in size 2, and normally I am size 0 in J Crew shirts ( I even have some 00s from the past when the fits were more tailored). They also did not have it in the store and I ordered this one to be delivered, so I haven't tried the smaller size for comparison. But I would say that it fits like their boy shirt that I did try in the store. This size is quite roomy on me in the waist/hip area, but it fits fine in the shoulders. If I wanted a classic tailored look I would have gone for my regular size (0).

Wow Tanya, that is professional level shopping! Everything looks amazing on you, impressive set of purchases! I'm especially excited about the tuxedo shirt, polka dot blouse and trench! What size did you get on the tuxedo shirt, and did you find it true to size? I ordered one today...I went to J Crew but they didn't carry the tuxedo shirt so they had me try on a boyfriend shirt...I bought size 8 which is up one or two sizes from my usual prepregnancy size in shirts, but I'm nursing and postpartum now so I have a bigger bust and tummy. Hopefully the shirt will fit. You did a great job with all your recent buys and with the analysis of your needs.
As I have posted a while ago here, I was not very happy with the current state of my wardrobe. Luckily, I was expecting some one-time extra income, sort of like bonus from work, and decided to spend about 10% on most important clothing updates. I also had some gift cards that I spent on some cheaper/trendier items. So I made a careful shopping list according to Angie's guidance; and when the money came about a week ago I did a lot of shopping. While I am not anywhere finished, I feel much better about my wardrobe now, and even if I do not end up getting else for the spring/summer I should be fine.

Here is how my level 1 shopping list looked like:
1. Light/medium wash normal skinny jeans, premium denim - not jeggings, not slouchy, not destroyed, full length. Kind of like old-fashioned skinnies. The reasoning behind this was that jeans are absolute essentials for me and I had plenty dark/colored/white etc. washes but no light washes other than one bootcut, and light washes are trending now.
2. Classic white shirt: I have a bunch but they are all getting worn and not so-pristine looking.
3. Silk Equipment knock-off shirts: wanted a long sleeved cream one to replace the recently torn one, and a couple of neutral sleeveless versions.
4. A bunch of basic tees in looser, slouchier cut to replace my current very fitted ones.

So here is what I got. None of these are K/R, I am quite pleased with the purchases. However, feel free to voice if you think something is not looking good. The only dilemma I have is the sizing of the shirt in pic #3.
1. I have been watching online sample sales like a hawk for the right jeans, as they usually have them at half off. I lucked out last week when this pair showed up on Gilt: AG skinny straight jeans in 18 years wash (fairly light)- exactly what I wanted (photo #1). Then, while waiting for these to arrive, I stumbled upon this pair of Current/Elliots at Loehman's, discounted down to $32 from $218. These are skinnier, medium wash, and 100% cotton. So I decided to get them and keep them both (#2).
2. I couldn't decide if I should first get a classic BB shirt or a tuxedo one. I had two old ones in each category. Then my favorite tuxedo shirt ripped, and Angie modeled her fabulous J Crew tuxedo shirt on the blog, and the decision was pretty much made for me The BB shirt will go on fall shopping list, level 1 priority. I sized up a size from my usual one and I was hoping that you could tell me if the fit is correct, as my eye is still not good at judging looser fits on myself. If you think it is too big, I can always size down (#3).
3. I have managed to find a perfect replacement cream silk LS shirt at VS, that I had a gift card for (#4). They also had sleeveless versions on sale/clearance, so I stocked up: I got a polka dot one (#5), and same ones in solid black ans solid cream (not pictured). I also stumbled at similar rayon white version at H&M for $13, and decided to get that one too as I tend to wreck sleeveless white tops pretty fast (#6).
4. Tees: I got a bunch from Express as I had a large gift card. I also ordered a couple from F21 that should be here in couple of days. What I got is: Express tanks in white and black (#1); Express 3/4 sleeved in white (#2), cobalt and dolman sleeved black; and waiting for F21 short sleeved tees in white and grey and 3/4 sleeved in charcoal.
5. Finally, this was unplanned for now. My trusty black trench suffered a big rip a while ago, and I have also lost its belt. So I have put the replacement on my fall level 1 list, since I wouldn't wear it much in the spring. I wanted it to be long, double breasted, simple classic style with a bit of a sheen. On Wednesday I was at BR looking for something else and the perfect trench popped at me! (it is the same one from the YLF store). I had a 40% coupon off plus some rewards so it was simply too good of a deal to pass, considering that I might not find it again in the fall. So I got it and decided to omit something from my level 2 list to make up for it.

Thank you very much if you made it this far! ( and sorry for all the wrinkles - I need to do a lot of ironing)
