If it doesn't fit, support, AND flatter, or fill a specific need, out it goes. Believe me it hurts even to chuck the 12 dollar target clearance flats, but the health and comfort of your feet is more important. I sold a pair of shoes for 99 cents on ebay once; only one person bid. But knowing that they aren't fab enough to sell for more helps me part with them. He usually complies (he's a good guy!) and takes them to one of our local thrift stores. And its done. I don't look back.<br /> The reason that I give them to my husband and he takes it from there, is because I used to get to the thrift store with my bag(s) and then have 2nd thoughts and start pulling things out of the bags and putting them back in my car! It is definitely easier if they have languished there for a month or two - unloved and unworn - to take them away.</p> <p>Sometimes I think you just need to take a load to the consignment store and not be a perfectionist about their outcome. I have only felt relief when things are out of my closet and out of my car. . .</p> <p>I donate anything that doesn't have special meaning or value to me. For taxes, I sometimes take a pic to refresh my memory come tax time. I find that quicker than making a list.</p> <p>There have been threads over the past year as people struggle with this. I have to be pretty ruthless because I have VERY limited closet space, so I have a "one in, one out" rule for the most part. If I bring in a new pair of shoes, I look in my shoe closet and try to find a pair to let go. I have no problem just donating -- I keep track and take the tax write-off. I tell myself it nets me almost as much as consigning without the hassle.</p> <p>I find it all rather freeing, actually.
