Frannie, like you, I live in a part of the world that does get cold winters. In fact, where I live, the summers are very cool as well. I also work in the field of marine biology, so I do quite a bit of travelling which includes some sub-arctic places.

Personally, I try to find a pair of winter boots that is stylish (to wear in the lab / academia / office), comfortable (must be flats), warm (field work isn't fun when I am freezing) and cute (can't crimp my style! LOL).

After looking around for a long time, and I am still look, the pair I am thinking of getting are these ones. They are comfortable enough for lots of walking, they are warm enough for field work and they are cute enough for me to wear in the office / lab as well since we have a rather casual office due to our line of work / research.

thank you -
Everyone has been so helpful.
In the extreme cold and on snowy days I wear my gear boots - last year this was a good part of Jan. if you followed MN weather. The rest of the time I don't want to wear my gear boots because they are so clunky.

I think I may order and try them out - Since I did love my Blondo's when I bought them and wore them to pieces. I consider them a back up boot now because they have so much wear on them.

These are pretty and practical -- and it sounds to me like an upgrade is definitely justifiable given the age of your other footwear and your climate. I echo ABC's comment -- look for Suz's post. She also lives where cold weather footwear is a must and she just bought these. Her POV will be really helpful. But I say, order and try and see how your feet feel. The brand is beyond reproach.

I cannot attest to this particular pair. I do believe, given your climate, that boots are a high priority piece of footwear that should be comfortable practical, and if at all possible, stylish.

I wear my gear boots into the office because the parking lot is not always cleared timely. And their version of cleared is not the same as mine. Then carry the shoes I am changing into with me. Most women wear I work do the same thing.

Because of this, I have not looked as much at Aquatalia despite my cold and snowy climate. But I know Blondos are great boots (and I think a sister brand to Aquatalia), so it sounds like this is something you do wear.

If your other cold-weather boots are as old as you say, I would certainly at least start looking for another pair. I live in Minnesota too, and it is panic time when boots wear out in the middle of winter. So you need to be prepared.

I don't know anything about these particular boots, but I did buy a pair of dress boots from Aquatalia last year (the Rhumba), and I was amazed at how warm they were; I couldn't feel the cold and wind *at all* through the leather. I would assume that the Sweetie would be even better for cold weather, since they are not meant to be a dainty dress boot. They have a nice tread on the bottom too, which is important. I agree with Sveta: order them now, while they're on sale, and see what you think. You could also call Nordie's or even Aquatalia and ask them how the boots perform in extremely cold temps.

These are beautiful boots if you like the style and worth the money.
I would say get them before this sale is over and see if you like them.

Look for a post from Suz on these exact boots. I think a few others got them too. I say go for it based on what I'm reading about them. Good luck.

I think new boots is a fab idea, and I like the ones posted.

You sound a little like me in that you keep and wear and wear your clothes and shoes, which means that you want to get it right. I imagine flat boots would be essential in such a cold climate so it would only be the colour and the length of them. It is hard to go wrong with black flat boots!

Go for it!!

I live in Minnesota and pretty much from December (sometimes starting in November) until March I wear boots outside and don't wear my indoor shoes outside

Planning for winter I decided maybe it is time to get new winter boots/wet boot
1. I have 1 pair of black ankle uggs (about 7 years old)- used to have more but because they are flat my feet don't like as much any more
2. A pair of heavy duty sorels (not the cute ones) mostly worn skiing and on days of blizzarding weather because they are big and clunky
3. Pair of leather Blondo winter boots that are no less than 10 years old. At the time these were an investment boot for me
4. I do not have a good pair of rain type boots - they are all tall and my curvy calves are not friends with tall boots.

So I'm thinking to upgrade since it has been say 7 years since I had new winter boots and I do tend to keep them.

So do I invest in a new pair of boots and get the Aquatalia sweetie short boot. Clearly I keep my winter boots and use them. My uggs are the same height and I love the slip on and offness of them just hate how flat they are.

Sometimes I have a hard time spending money on the practical because I want to buy all the pretty things.

-
