I say GET - it meets most of your criteria satisfactorily, and you will not find a markdown during the season. Go for it!

I feel your pain. I'm only about 5'3" and am having a hard time finding woven dresses that reach my knees. I've looked for 2 years for a wool non-black winter coat that hits on or below the knee cap and don't think they exist.

Sveta, great point about checking machine washing... I do remember looking at the labels of some coats and seeing the sign for washing at 30, but am not sure if it was this one. Thanks for the tip.

And funnily enough, today I've been pondering if finding something that's LONG ENOUGH for me, you, us is feasible at all :-)

I must say that Anna's and now your confirmations just how warm down coats are leaves me very, very impatient to go back to the shop. See, I may not be waiting to try on the python shoes, but I have my own share of drama and suspense

Ornella, my cream puffer is above the knee too and it works for my Canadian winter. I would love to get another one below the knee so I can wear it with midi skirts and dresses but when it is that cold so I need a puffer I can live with not being 100% fashionable. After all you and me know that getting anything LONG for us is next to impossible, right?
One thing to check: is it machine washable? As it is cream you may need to wash it more frequently and if you need to dry clean it it is more hassle and cost. Mu down puffer is machine washable and this was a deciding factor for me in getting a cream outerwear for winter!

Yay. It will be beautiful on you (as far as puffers go)! You'll be so glad come winter.

Get! I hear you on the down. I have a long synthetic puffer that is not nearly as warm as my short down jacket.

I know I would rush back and buy it or regret it all season long. It sounds lovely and I am very drawn to cream or white for outerwear. (Unless planning to hike through blizzards) When you say above the knees does it cover your bottom? If so I'd say that's most important to cover in the cold. Find a sassy hat and scarf combo (any color will work!)
Full disclosure: I have a knee length puffer in grey, a longer puffer in Black (purchased end of last season) and just added a red one with a hood (above knee length) for MOTG. All were fantastic deals and I would have purchased cream if it had been available in any of them.

Long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away...
You may recall that I've said I was on SYC, as my recent move and complete lifestyle change have made it apparent I don't need more clothes, I just need more opportunities to wear what I already have. I would, however, make an exception for the obvious wardrobe holes or necessities. I have little interest in exploring the new shops other than getting familiar with them in terms of brands they sell, price ranges and the general quality of the merchandise.

One thing I do know I'll need is a good puffer coat as the continental winters are a lot harsher than what I was used to before. And I also have an idea what that puffer coat should look like:
A - must must must have: down filling. No compromises there.
B - must have: length - long, as in below the knees.
C - would like to have: hood.
D - would prefer: non-black color.

And so today my family went to town...
Mr O. has been shopping for the casual jacket today and as we passed through the ladies' section of the department store, I saw the sea of puffers - all on sale, and decided to check what's on offer... when the cream beauty caught my attention... and I tried it on... and fell in love.

A - Down filling, check.
B - Length - just above the knees. Pass?
C - Hood - no, but not an issue and has really nice collar.
D - Non-black, check. Although the color seems very impractical, it is beautiful and wintery and I absolutely loved seeing myself in non-black coat.

It fits like a glove over the jacket I had on today. Mr O. also said it looked great and I certainly trust his judgement. Sorry, no photos, it only occurred to me later I could have taken some.

Best of all, it is marked down significantly.

However, I didn't buy it and on the way home kept thinking whether I should go back and get it. In the new climate where I'll live it would be in heavy rotation and the fact is that it's a very good deal.

My only real reservation is the length - I would love a long one, but have no idea if I'll manage to find what I want when I'll be needing it. This coat is a good deal and could be nice until something better - longer - comes my way (and even then, it would be a nice additional coat).

Over to you
What would you do?

Also, does the fact it is cream make it terribly impractical?

(Btw, I am not sure about store return policy so for now I'll need to assume that if I buy it I cannot return it.)

*** Thanks for reading ***
