Thank you very much for your input, UmmLila, Janet and Staysfit. It appears that VB sizing varies greatly from piece to piece.

Lisa, I am glad you found the thread helpful.

Angie, I am very happy you will chime in with your size impressions when the pre-sale starts. With the price of the jacket, I really don't want to order two sizes and return one. I am still trying to figure out My NAS budget but the jacket will take huge chunk of it if it works. But, as you said, the colors really suit me, and I have been building a navy, burgundy and blush capsule, so it seems like a wise purchase with my new job.

A gorgeous jacket. I was eyeing this because of the colors but now that I've read this thread I know it won't be for me because of the sizing. I adore Theory's clothes, but their jackets fit really narrow in the shoulders which is exactly where I need the extra room in a jacket. So if this brand runs similar to Theory then I'll have to find something else. So thanks so much for starting this thread because these answers were really helpful for me.

Sounds like you're sorted, Tanya. I hope you get your VB jacket! I'll give you the skinny on the sizing on 12th July, when I start shopping preselections with clients. These colours were made for you.

Yikes! VB sizing must be all over the map. I recently purchased a VB dress and needed a 8. It was sleeveless, or maybe cap sleeved, but for the shoulders and torso to fit correctly I needed the larger size. I tried one in the past and ordered my typical size which would be a 4, but the waist hit in the wrong place. Long torso = Larger size.

I found the fit in the two VB blazers I tried on in NYC to be slightly too straight for me (sized up for boobs and the shoulders/back were too big). But the striped asymmetrical zip moto fits beautifully in an 8 (I'm typically a 6 or 8 in jackets/blazers but more often an 8 these days). I do think their fits vary a little so don't be surprised if you need to try a couple of sizes.

I have three VB jackets. One is a woven blazer, one is a tweed chanel-ish jacket and one is a long striped moto jacket made of fabric that has some give to it. I took my normal size in the moto jacket and the tweed and went up a size for the blazer, because my shoulders are wide.

I have one pair of VB pants, but have tried on three. I found their sizing a bit inconsistent, though I have lost a little weight lately and that may be the culprit for at least the last example. In one of the pants (the one I own) I had to go a size up for a good fit. Another was so tight I likely would have had to go up two sizes (but did not). And the third I had to go down a size from my usual but ultimately did not like the fit.

When I was in New York earlier this month my hotel was around the corner from a VB store so I did check out the merch extensively. The company's own web site has some very good markdowns lately.

I bought a lace dickey on sale but have not worn it yet.

ps. the price on the white jacket is most certainly not what I paid

Thank for the size info, Lisap - you are another one who takes the same size in VB as in Smythe. I like the dickies as a fun way to change the look, but would probably end up wearing a VB jacket much more often without then with them as I'd like to go for cleaner lines.

I'm a lot bigger than the rest of you - gah - but I have tried on a few VB's (so when my time comes I'm good and ready ) and they fit me the same as some of the Smythe cuts do. My usual Smythe size is an 8, and I have two in a 10 as they are a different cut altogether. An 8 VB fits me well. I'm not crazy about many of the dickies - I found some look pretty cheap relative to the jacket, but that's not the most important part....

Hope you find one you like!

Greycat6, thank you on the sizing input, that is very helpful.

Lisap, my bad, I didn't quite express myself properly (three 16-h work weeks will do that to you). I meant buying less items in total but focus on
"higher quality pieces with longevity" when I do buy something - the typical "quality over quantity" mantra. I fixed the original sentence to reflect that, and thank you for pointing it out!

I'm confused by your last sentence in the first paragraph. You want to buy "less higher quality pieces with longevity" .....which doesn't quite make sense when talking about a VB jacket - or did I misunderstand?

I think the VB sizing does depend on the cut of the blazer as well as the fabric.

I have the VB scuba jacket in navy, size 4. The scuba fabric stretches, which is why the blazer works for me. The size 4 VB wool schoolboy jacket was a little snug in the shoulders and much too big everywhere else in a 6. I have a very hard time getting blazer fit correct with sloping shoulders, small bust and rib cage but, apparently, shoulders that are wider in proportion than all of those things. For reference, my usual blazer size is 2 at Ann Taylor or J Crew.

FYI, I did have to have the sleeves shortened. Given the snaps on the cuff plus the buttons for the dickey this is not an easy alteration. Fortunately, my local Nordstrom has an excellent alterations department and my sales person requested a particular women who she knew to be skilled enough to manage this. I would not have trusted this alteration to someone I didn't know.

Hope this helps.

Greyscale, thank you so much for the link to the other thread and for sharing your experience with the VB sizing - it seems like that jacket runs big. I am real 2 in Theory jackets and even have one in 0 that is a little tight but works with thinner tops. It could be that the VB sizing depends on the cut of the jacket and varies between them.

Yes! A few people shared some info on this thread:
https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/dickeys

I LOVE the idea of the interchangeable dickey.

I tried this wool version at Nordstrom recently and I can't remember if I was a 0 or 2. I'm a 2, almost 4, in Theory jackets. I did notice that the torso was rather long and straight. I suspect a 0 or a 2 would fit you perfectly.

The quality of the wool one I tried was very nice. The fit wasn't quite good enough on me to replace my existing Club Monaco blazer, given how rarely I wear blazers.

I've noticed a few of the dickies at Nordstrom Rack recently, which might be a way to collect more options affordably.

Hi Gryffin, thank you so much for the detailed response. So basically you are taking same size in VB jacket as in Smythe jackets, so it sounds like I should probably do the same ( I am a slim hourglass but with decent shoulders). I also appreciate that blazers are your thing - I am of kind of thinking of doing the same for my new job for similar reasons.

Hi Tanya - I am usually a 4-6 in jackets depending on brand. In theory and VB I took an 8. In AT I take a size 2. Most common brands a size 4. I don't consider my frame large at all, average at most or on the smaller size, but I need the width in the back and for reference bra size is 32 b or 34 a. I also took a size 8 in smythe same reason. OTOH I find theory pants fit big. I usually take a size 4. Go figure. The size 6 are slouchy a bit oversized and the size 8 I can pull off. (I have not tried the VB pants.) I am not an IT. I am a slim rectangle. I am right on board with buy better and buy less. My thing is blazers. I have more blazers than tops. I know but who remembers the top. Quality tailoring and fit are key. Fabric quality is excellent. I rolled sleeves and squished and it doesn't wrinkle but springs right back. The zippers for the dickey's are recessed and very smooth. The sleeves have a good measure of regular, not lining fabric about 6-8" up which is nice for rolling. All buttons are working. Finish work is very good. I don't love the button quality but that may be personal preference and is a very minor gripe. The dickey's attach easily with buttons and zippers. Watch asymmetry - if that bothers you some look centered and are not but very easy to change out. Hope that helps.

So, this is kind of a spinoff of a conversation that started on Gryffin's NAS thread about VB jackets. One of them (photo below) will be offered at NAS this year and I am seriously contemplating it - I have decided, with my new office job, to try to buy less items and focus on higher quality pieces with longevity, especially beautiful jackets.

For all who are lucky enough to own one, or have even tried one on - how happy are you with it, especially your impressions on quality, sizing etc.
I am especially curious about sizes - as I have noticed some websites say to size up and some do not. Would you say that they are more TTS if your reference size is say, Theory jacket, or small like Smythe runs. My Theory jackets are size 2 while my only Smythe is size 4, and I was wondering where VB falls on that scale.

I am also curious about VB pants sizing if you have any experience with them - again compared to Theory.
