I like the comfort of knit blazers as well as slightly less formal look since I may need s "3rd piece" for meetings but want to avoid a stuffy or corporate look.
But I agree with Sterling, they can't be too heavy( or I can only use one or 2 very versatile ones- even though I run cold, they sometimes even look too wintry if the knit is thick.

My ponte knit is good, but it tends to hold creases a bit too much. It is lined, but I would think it may be a bit more pronounced if it wasn't lined. However, it is really comfortable and easy to wear.

Hi Thistle. I love ponte knit. I made the very unfortunate discovery that ponte knit is too warm for me during most of the year. I can wear it for three, maybe four, months a year. I have stopped buying it all together. Good luck in your search though.

Thistle, thank you very much for the description. I have a grey (some might call it taupe) blazer -- bought at H&M in March 2016 -- which I guess you would call a Ponte blazer. (I still wonder what Ponte is called in other languages, and perhaps I'll raise the question in a separate thread.) The fabric is tight and jersey-like with some stretch. This blazer has proved to be very versatile, also when travelling (no wrinkles). It has the look and style of a classic blazer but the comfort of a cardigan. Perfect in my book. I LOVE clothes (and shoes) which are both elegant and comfortable.

I never understood what Ponte was either. Now I want some Ponte pants!
I have a blazer that might be considered a Ponte blazer. I love it. Very comfortable. If I could find another one I would buy it.

I am late here, but had to chime in, since I am a big fan of ponte jackets. They worked well when I worked in a casual lab, and they still work now in a business casual office. I absolutely love them as I get the structure of a jacket with the comfort of a cardigan. Plus, they have held up really well, even lower end H&M ones. Most of mine are lined, but that does not diminish their comfort in any way. Boden has some lovely ones this season, I am attaching the one I am eying, but they have other, shorter styles, too.

I don't know how to explain it in a foreign language.

Ponte knit is a very thick, very tight, smooth kind of fabric. It has a bit of stretch so it moves with you. But because of the thicker fabric, it is very kind to those of us with a few jiggles. Many knits show every flaw, but not Ponte knit.

It's smooth fabrication makes it office appropriate.

The higher quality the Ponte knit, the better the qualities above.

My Ponte pants are extremely comfortable. Not quite yoga pants comfortable, but very close. I'd love to find work blazers that comfortable. A Ponte blazer won't be as dressy as a wool one, but a wool jacket in my office might have people asking if you're interviewing somewhere. We're just not that dressy.

I have a Kay Unger black ponte jacket for at least 5 years. It is lined yet not stiff and it looks quite formal. I highly recommend a ponte jacket, at least the one I have. It has served me well but it is starting to show wear and I am trying not to wear it too much until I find a good replacement. That may take a while since good ponte jackets are not easy to find.
I will follow your post, hoping to find another ponte jacket as well.

Thistle, I think those jackets look nice, and very professional. They sound good for your business casual environment. Personally, I would prefer something like the Gibson style that is even a little more casual looking. (I would keep an eye out for that kind of style in your size.) The idea of lining a ponte jacket takes away a lot of its appeal for me, as I think it would feel like just another tailored blazer, rather than like a soft cardigan.

Yes, that #5 sweater of Jailen's is on my list. Thinking black or navy, though I like the burgundy, too.

Joy- good point on the scallop trim and where it hits. May not be the most flattering for this pear.

Are people totally sick of me raving about the Gibson Riding Jacket? Thistle I don't have enough good things to say about a ponte blazer. The gibson is line which is the best. It glides on, it holds its shape, it never wrinkles (and yes I've slept in it), it's incredibly comfortable, and it looks great. If you find the right blazer, lined, its a little miracle. Worth looking for. I am on the hunt right now! Good luck and can't wait to see what you pick!!

Hmmm, I like the ones JAileen pictured best because the earlier Talbots jackets show that they end just at the model's widest hip, creating a strong horizontal line where you probably do not want the eye to go. The scallop edged looks like the worst offender. This may not be the case in real life but something to watch out for unless you want to add inches visually in that area.

It's funny, I got the Talbots catalog and I noticed there were so many great jackets in it. And of course the cover, with a Bob Barker (not his real name) lookalike. The one in #5 is actually a sweater, but it has a jacket vibe.

Have you every tried something like this?

https://www.talbots.com/online.....tedConcept=

I have a similar one for fall, in olive, that is very flattering, and I'm going to wear it with black and navy pants, and dress it up a bit with a statement necklace. (The secret to flattering seems to be heavier fabric, because my first (failed) try at this style was a light poplin.) And then it will look very smart-casual for weekends, over khakis or jeans.

I'm probably better off not talking about them, after seeing one at Talbots with a cute scalloped bottom edge. It's cotton, which I much prefer, and which is harder to find in a ponte knit. I have no need for it, but will live through you vicariously if you get it, lol.

I love ponte knit jackets -- particularly when the knit is structured and substantial and the jacket is, preferably, unlined. I am wary of those that are lined with cheap acetate, alongside an unstable ponte -- that combination will twist and writhe about the body all day long.

I'm in the market for a ponte jacket this year --- I'll let you know if I find good candidates!

I have a smattering of these mixed into my wardrobe, the last purchased a cropped forest green collarless that is very good with a sheath dress, or trousers. I have other traditionally cut ponte blazers (posted a grey in a WIW earlier this week or last) but I don't reach for them as much. This post makes me question why. First I think is they do read more casual, which is great if you are looking for casual but usually when I am reaching for a jacket I want less, not more, casual. The lined ponte jackets do tend to be lined with a jersey that stretches, so that part is good. so comfort is usually good, but it is not as crisp of a look as I like when I am wanting to wear a jacket.

I am considering a ponte knit blazer, but it's lined. I *love* ponte knit pants, and thought these might be a comfortable "3rd" piece.

I currently choose a lot of cardigans for this based on comfort factor, even though I like the look of a jacket better.

Anyone have any experience with a ponte knight jacket? Like it? hate it?
