Fall and winter aren't so bad, and I don't seem to have spot-specific issues like excessive underarm sweating. However, I react very, very poorly to hot weather. So much so that when we visit a hot climate on vacation, I am pretty sure that observers think there is something the matter with me because I sweat so much. My face is the worst, and one cannot exactly put anti-perspirant on one's face! But "oil-free" sunscreens and facial products don't do a thing for me because my skin is not only sweaty, but oily as well. I suppose it helps as far as aging and wrinkling goes, but it is miserable.

As for clothing, I launder the layer closest to my skin after each wear, so that means that I wear a freshly laundered bra, underwear (of course), socks, cami or t-shirt and tights daily. In the summertime, I rarely wear anything more than once between washings, but in winter I can usually wear pants twice and jackets or cardigans several times.

I am sure this would be a much worse problem for me if I lived where you live. I sweat all summer something fierce.

In winter, not so much. Only when I work out and RARELY if I am super nervous about something. Otherwise, almost nothing.

For my trip capsule, I'll make sure to have a clean top for each day, and I'll actually be wearing a couple of tops on at least some days (i.e. if I go out in the evening I would probably be changing tops if not bottoms).

I always wash socks, undies, camis and layering Ts or tops each wear. Bottoms, not so often and shirts/ sweaters can usually be worn a few more times, but it does depend what I have been doing.

Oh yes, I still need an anti-perspirant/deodorant layered on top with Certain Dri, but it certainly improves things a lot.

I personally use Certain Dri once every two months - I used to have gigantic pit circles, and this works. It does increase sweating in other areas, like my scalp and between my breasts, but it's much more managable.

However, CD does not eliminate all sweat, nor does it eliminate all pit smell. Maybe I need to learn to love my odor? I wish I did like it, but it has a sharp smell I just don't enjoy.

Laundry, ho!

Due to my sport training, I work out (and thus shower) twice a day. DH says I smell like chlorine (from the pool) most of the time. I can get away with repeat wearings of clothes, though I am a bit of a spiller.

Still, I gravitate towards wash and wear fabrics with high natural fibre content. Dry clean only and other high maintenance clothes didn't make it through the child rearing years, and haven't found a place in my current wardrobe.

I am a major underarm sweater... I would always have gigantic pit stains, in winter or summer, hot or cold. It became seriously embarrassing for me and was affecting my quality of life so I saw a dermatologist about it. I've been getting botox on my armpits every 6-8 months to control the problem, and it's covered by insurance as a medical necessity (hyperhydrosis). It has seriously saved my sanity.

I salute you!!! I, too, am a 'schvitzer'! I live in a temperate climate so I can get away with two wearings of most upper-body garments before it's laundry time. My anti-sweat tactics include:

- Avoiding polyester on my top half, even the nice new polyester fabrics
- Going instead with cottons, viscose, silk, and rayon for my top half
- That magical unscented or sports Mitchum deoderant
- Shaving armpits
- A strategic dusting of talcum powder on really hot days

For a special occasion, to cut down on sweating and associated fabric crumpling, I will go for a very nice knit dress in one of my OK fabrics, or a knit top paired with a skirt.

Merino wool retards body perspiration and stays fresh for a very long time. But it seems like most of us are dealing with sweating in the heat...and merino's not the greatest for that, unless we are talking suiting.

Another profuse sweater here, though like RandomThoughts, I don't feel like it smells very much as long I'm clean and not exercising, etc. I can sweat in the cold, and sometimes when I'm not doing anything, either. I do sometimes rewear tops of the blousey kind (especially silk), though I give them several days to air out in between.

I actually feel that it's my *bottoms* that get stinkier faster--not to be gross, but there's much more than just sweat smells that can get trapped down there. That said, I still rewear pants a few times--and again, make sure to air in between. Everything I rewear is hung up--stuff in drawers is completely unworn.

I'm with Rae and Ceit - I sweat when I'm hot, I sweat when I'm cold.... It's crazy! I have tried all manner of antiperspirants, clinical and otherwise including Certain Dri. It makes no difference at all. Thankfully I do not put out much of an odor provided I am clean (exercising will change that but we're talking just hanging around here).

Yesterday I was sitting at the computer doing bookkeeping and I had to blow-dry the pits because I had big wet marks. UGH! I will sweat through multiple layers - tshirt, sweater, blazer even jackets! I have sweat through my leather jacket - I had to buff out the marks! It is the worst. Tops have to get washed after each wear.

I have found that the only things that make a difference are adequate arm pit air circulation, DRY environments (low humidity, IOW, not where I live. We tend to keep the heat up in the house as that helps dry out the air) and I also take some OTC adrenal support supplements that include ashwagandha which seem to help a little.

IK, you are not alone. I perspire too. I am like Janet and have the soaking ponytail when I exercise. I also sweat when I am cold or nervous and if I wear poly lined pants. Poly pants make my feet icy cold and clammy even in summer. I try to wear more natural fibers.

I went through at least a dozen anti-perspirants before I realized the "smell" wasn't me but rather my body chemistry reacting to the scent in the product. I switched to unscented mitchum and haven't had a problem since.

I can wear a shirt or pants a couple times without a problem. I am the dissenter on the panty liner issue. I find the plastic and whatever else is in them seems to trap perspiration and amplify the negative effects. I tried to phrase that delicately.

I SWEAT and always have and it is genetic. I wash all of my clothes after one wearing. Sometimes jeans get a break and go for two wearings but that is it. The funny thing is, my feet do not sweat very much (thank goodness) so I do not have issues with my shoes.

IK I am a sweaty one too. Am I wrong about this or does having kids seriously mess up your sweat regulation? It seems like it did for me anyway. I find the year after a kid my hormones are crazy and I sweat in weird conditions.

Anyway, when it seems like I'm sweating more than normal I sometimes apply Drysol once a wee. The stuff feels weird and sometimes makes my armpits break out if I use too much (Do NOT use after shaving, ouch!) but once a week usually helps. Also, I have a fairly minimal wardrobe, and I love silk for tops. It breathes so well, and I don't sweat nearly as much as when I'm wearing polyester or other synthetics.

Reading through this super fast, and I don't see any mention of Certain Dri.

I posted about the same thing, Dana, about a year and a half ago. I sweat like a racehorse in the Kentucky Derby. I think it's just genetic bad luck. Anyway, several lovely ladies mentioned Certain Dri, an antiperspirant you put on at night. It changed my life.

I still wash most tops after two or three wearings, but it's a miracle I can wear anything more than once! I also sometimes put on a swipe of men's deodorant (not antiperspirant) in the morning, because I like the smell. Certain Dri doesn't get rid of sweat totally, but it drastically reduces it. So I might still sweat a little if I exert myself, and the morning deodorant takes care of that.

Ok, I am in the middle of the road sweat wise. I do need a fresh top for every day, because I hate the smell of stale deodorant mixed in with my body smell. Plus, I do have an allergy to many types of dander, including human dander, which is why I can't do thrift shops for long periods of time. On denim, I can get away with multiple wearings but I prefer the feeling of clean clothes. One thing, I cannot take polyester in warmer climates. I break on a cold sweat. I also break on cold sweats in high stress situations or if i have to speak for long periods of time, which I have to do a lot for work. No poly then.

Also, my body tends to stretch, wrinkle and crease all of my clothes. I would look unkept.

Rae, technical wicking fabrics are comfortable, but they smell even worse!

I try to avoid synthetic fibers for every day use; there is something about poly that traps smell.

I love technical wicking fabrics for running to keep dry, and then I launder them right away. Including a little hydrogen peroxide is supposed to help.

IK-smell issues and oily skin get better after menopause.

Without breathability issues, I can control things with my antiperspirant (Dry Idea Clinical) until Spring rolls around. Thank goodness, because I can get a break on laundry. Then, you bet I'd better be in an air-conditioned building, or I can't even wear a poly lined blazer these days. Acrylic feels disgusting after one wear, cashmere can usually go for several for me. Jeans I put in the freezer to freshen.

Forget summer - I have a drawer FULL of shorts and at least a week's worth of airy dresses now, because I sweat through everything, and it's just gross. Definitely not going to be the girl with a small summer wardrobe... even still, I'm getting more and more interested in technical, wicking fabrics.

I guess that makes me genetically lucky? I love having a small wardrobe. The items that get washed daily are socks, knickers and camis. Those items are plentiful in my wardrobe. Tops just don't get funky, and once I switched to premium denim, I find I need to wash less often, as they don't bag out like my Gaps do.

Haha, nothing "indelicate".

Yes, I sweat. For me, the problem with sweaters and long sleeve t shirts with more than a couple wearings, is that my arms get a dermitis - particularly in the Spring...when I sweat most.

I think that these "mini wardrobes " need to be useful. If you main capsule doesn't work because of the sweating, then there is no purpose for having it. I think that having enough for 10 days and doing laundry every week, is a good goal. I am actually moving in that direction with my kids, too.

I sweat a lot. For this reason, I tend to wash my tops/bottoms after a single wearing. Sometimes I might get two wearings out of the garment, but I have to push it and I don't feel that great about it. I prefer to start each day off fresh.

I have friends that tell me they wear their clothes multiple times before washing them. Perhaps they do not sweat as much or perhaps I lean toward the compulsive side of things. Either way, my system works. My clothes are clean and fresh and I feel clean and fresh.

I second the pantyliners.

I also sweat like crazy, especially on my face, which is one reason why I don't wear much makeup. There's just no point. The slightest temperature change, from outdoors to a warm bus, for example, can cause me to look like I just dunked my head in a bucket.

IK - I totally get what you're saying. For me, blouses, t-shirts, dress pants, tights and some sweaters get washed after every single wearing. I just don't feel clean otherwise. I'm not the sweatiest person out there but neither am I the driest. Blazers are cleaned less so but I do get the icky neck thing and will spot clean the back of the neck every 2-3 wearings. Jeans get washed only every 3-4 wearings unless I was particularly sloppy or the bottoms got all muddy.

In the summer time, my laundry doubles in size because it gets quite hot and I definitely perspire more.

I wash my underlayer daily, or a T-shirt daily. My knickers and socks daily. My bluejeans go for 3-4 days, and my sweaters or fleece jackets, um, indefinitely? I shower every morning, and after every workout.

Sweat and any odor are really tied in with hormonal variation.
[ETA: Pantyliners can be a goddess send.]

I'm right there with you, IK. I do not glow. I sweat A LOT, especially in the summer heat. And it is largely genetic, IMO. :(

On the positive side, I've always been told it's a "healthy" trait...your body efficiently getting rid of toxins and whatnot.
