Hah! I guess we had subliminal thoughts about each other, Ariadne :)

The trend will hold for sure. High five to preferring flats to sandals for Summer! I do not own a single pair of sandals. I wear closed shoes all the way.

Thanks, everyone! I'm going to wear them around the house a bit and see if I think they're worth hanging on to for next summer. I learned this year that I prefer flats to sandals in the summer so they'd be good for that IF the trend holds for another season.

Angie, that's so funny because I had a dream about YOU this week. It was totally random (my dreams are so discombobulated and nonsensical) so I don't even remember the "plot" (there probably wasn't one). I know it involved clothing somehow though

Calves get wet all the time, so it *should* be okay to get them wet. But I still wouldn't (and don't) wear them in the rain. Getting caught in a surprise shower should be fine though.

I don't wear my (one) pair of calf hair shoes if it's wet or expected to rain. I do think the wet would ruin them. And these you can't really spray to waterproof them, I don't think.

I dreamed about you last night, Ariadne!

I love the new slipper flats :)

FWIW, we live in the same climate and these are dry/SUMMER shoes for me. Unless we have a warm Spring - which we never do - I'd wear them in Spring too. I would not wear them in the wet at all. I have slipper flats similar to those and booties too. Must be indoors or quite dry in order to wear them. (But the booties I wear year round).

I have these shoes! - though mine have a tassel - I got them at DSW. Anyway, I have made it a point to wear them only when it is isn't raining, but in the winter when I have to wear snow boots, I plan to change into them and other flats like these in the office. Mine have gotten a few raindrops on them without problems, but I definitely wouldn't wear them in a downpour.

I can't speak to wet weather since I live in a desert, but I love those shoes. I think I saw them when I was at Nordstrom a month ago. I wih they had my size.

That's a good point, Laura. Now that I actually think about it, hey're not really a wet weather style anyway. Wet weather is boots weather and that's that. If I keep these shoes I will have to reserve them for indoor events like DFS and church. Between those two alone they could be worn 1x per week all year, and much more often in the spring/summer. I don't think they'd hold up super well at the playground either, so I am going to think of these as a substitute for pumps or other smart casual/somewhat dressy shoes (which I badly need). So that leaves getting caught out in a surprise shower as the only real concern.

Good question. I don't know, specifically, about the calf hair material, but I know I have a hard time in the wetter months with shoes that like those have a very minimal sole/bottom. Even when you try to avoid puddles etc it seems like a little moisture always creeps up from the bottom of the shoe around to the sides. I've got some ballet flats like that and they aren't the best shoes for wet weather.

Hopefully someone more educated about calf hair will chime in

I ordered these Nine West leopard smoking slippers on great sale recently. They arrived and I'm fairly sure I love them. Will add picsc when I can get them off my camera. BUT. I've never owned a calf hair item before and am not sure if they are a great idea in my rainy climate. Are they dry/warm weather only shoes? If so these may have to go back (or be shelved until.... May?). And how do I treat or care for them?
