Thank you all so much for helping me figure this skirt out!

We have a ton of social things we do on a regular basis, so I'm not sure why I thought I could only wear it to work. We go out to dinner with friends or family, birthday parties, bonfires, movies, errands, etc etc. So I will have many opportunities to wear it that aren't office related! yay!

I think first, though, is all black with the skirt shining! Thanks again!

Welcome! I love the leopard print skirt. I agree it makes sense to wear it with black and let it star for its first outing, but later on, I'd pair it with red, green, maybe cobalt...it's amazing how well leopard can work with colours. You can also pair it with white and/or light grey for a change of pace.

This is a fun skirt and I would treat the animal print as a neutral. Leopard is a slam dunk with all black, but I love it with a white t-shirt and denim jacket and cognac leather boots and bag. This would be great with a red or burgundy sweater and I love leopard with olive too...You need to have a play in your wardrobe to see what combinations work for you.
I do think this is more of a party / weekend piece unless your work environment is very arty and fashionable. I can imagine my hairdresser wearing something like this and looking amazing and appropriate. In my corporate office, alas it would not work.

Agree with LauraG and gryffin. Let it be the star, at least until you are used to it. I love it!

Raine - that's such a fun piece!! I agree conservative for work. Black close fitting top, black tights, flat black shoes, oxfords, brogues, booties, fashion sneakers, black leather paddock or hiking boots, flat booties or flat knee boots. Cropped black blazer makes it professional, moto, swacket, for anarty softer look, heels and cropped tux jacket and it's party worthy.

Since your concern right now is feeling comfortable in your new skirt, I'd go as conservative as possible: black long sleeved tee or turtleneck, black tights or leggings, black booties. Do you have a black moto? That would balance the volume of the skirt.

Once you're comfortable wearing the skirt at all, then you can branch out.

You can have a lot of fun with that skirt!

I think it's going to be difficult in a business casual dress code. The fabric / print / length / cut all work against it for a professional office setting.

But I think you can have a lot of fun with styling it. Aside from an office, where do you see yourself wearing it? That would affect the kind of top you wear with it. (Will you need a topper as well?) And as far as colors, what's your tolerance for mixing colors?

By the way, once you have a find, you can add it directly to your post. Just scroll down and look under the part where you're typing, and you'll see all the finds you've collected. You can select any of them to add the picture directly in your post.

I loved and bought this skirt from Torrid yesterday and it's WAY outside my comfort zone. I'm scared of a piece of clothing, y'all! lol

How do I make it flop-proof? It's got a LOT of volume, so should I balance with form fitting top (like a t-shirt)? As for colors of top, do I let the skirt shine, and stick to black, or go with a color top (like purple)? Do you have another idea?

I'd love to be able to wear it to work with their business casual dress code. Any ideas are welcome!

Note: I am a writer and artist. I am actively evolving my wardrobe to be more artsy and creative with some edge, while still looking pulled together and sophisticated (can you be artsy and sophisticated? I'll let you know! rawr!). I went on a mini spree this weekend and only bought things I really loved. I want to have more fun with my clothes, but leopard print is maybe too much fun lol. haalp!
