after standing in front of mirror trying on skirts to keep or toss, I am finding shoes and heel height have a lot to do with the ones to toss or not. for instance a flair black skirt that hit just below my knee didn't work standing there barefoot, but when I put on the heels I really liked the look. Then I tried it with flats, and again, for me it was a no no. also my 2 summery maxi skirts look best with flat sandals-and did not work with the wedgie sandals, although the color is perfect.
I am thinking maxi skirts or dresses in wintery colors and fabrics will look great with boots-if the boots are high enough not to show leg when sitting. I think this would be a great look, especially with low heel boots.

Definitely a hard length to wear and easily goes into frumpville if you're not careful. Requires some sort of heel for sure. Here are Angie's tips on how to get the most out of the look:
http://youlookfab.com/2011/04/.....d-dresses/

My sweet spot for Summer is middle of knee or a bit above. In winter when I wear thick/opaque tights and boots I always go a bit above my knee.

I agree! And I really even avoid that just over the knee look that's been very popular. I just can't carry it off. I stick with just at or above the knee for straight skirts and will do sort of below knee in floaty fit and flair dresses or silky skirts.

Mid-calf is hard to wear. The legs tend to look cut off if the hem is at the widest part of the leg. Skirt shape and material also has a big effect. A full, gathered skirt of a "limp" material (like early '90s cheesecloth skirts)... in the frump column these days unless you're a styling genius.

What I thought was called midi was like about mid calf, not just below knee. So what I think looks frumpy is mid calf.

Don't know why, but now I am finding lengths that are longer than knee length that are now called midi, looking frumpy. I love maxi and find them cool and comfy for summer. What lengths will be really in in fall winter?
