Thank you Chiara and Suz. I'm in-between work, so I won't get to more pics today. Will try to upload tomorrow morning. I appreciate your time and advice!

You'll need to try it on and pin it to various lengths with the shoes you intend to wear and snap some photos if you can. It's really tough to talk about any of this in the abstract. What works for one won't for another because it's about proportions.

I personally prefer below the knee before the calf gets larger. I think you can try different lengths with safety pins, wearing the shoes you inted to wear with the skirt, and then decide.

Hi everyone,

First of all, as a still relative newbie to the forum, I do apologize if I have left anyone hanging with comments. I can't commit an extraordinary amount of time to checking back and commenting on posts inside others' threads, but I do SO appreciate this forum, everyone's feedback and kindness. I have learned so much and am still learning from you all!

So on to the topic: I found an $8 thrifting steal in the form of a maxi denim skirt. I suspect the skirt is rather old, but it has current elements: high waist that fits perfectly, no belt, dark wash, only the mildest of A-lines.

I want to cut it to midi length with a frayed hem. So questions: What "is" a midi length today, and are there special scissors that will automatically fray the hem for me (as opposed to simply give me a raw edge)? I did search the Net. Angie's *gorgeous* gillet photo (swoon) shows her skirt at a few inches below the knee, sort of before the thickets part of a calf. Her skirt is more straight or pencil in silhouette than mine (which I would prefer--but hey, it's thrifted), so does that matter? I also see several "below" the thickest part of the calf photos online, too. I have very muscular calves, so does that rule still hold (don't cut at the thickest line)?

Obviously, when I cut, I will start at a lower length, consider, and then cut again if necessary. But I would love your collective wisdom as a guidepost--especially from those of you who sew! Thanks!
