Thanks for the input. What you're both saying makes a lot of sense. I'm wondering if I should size up, like Diana suggested, or part ways with this particular sweater. Something about the neither-here-nor-there nature of this style isn't quite working for me. It's not quite a poison eye, but I don't think I'll be happy wearing it. Shame, because it's cozy as all get out and I love the color.

I would also go for a slightly looser fit around the hips especially. Speaking from experience, if a split hem sweater is tight around the hips it will make the split look disproportionately large (rather than causing the knit fabric to stretch, which is what a normal gen sweater would do and looks fine.)

It looks as if it is meant to fit with some ease and fluidity. Not truly oversized but not snug. A bit like the sweaters below. If you click on the images you'll see photos of models wearing them, I believe.

I'm hoping you lovely ladies can offer some advice on sweater fit. I found a cable knit sweater that I really like, and it has a slight split hem. How is it supposed to fit? Is it supposed to be loose and flowy? Long or short? I'm on the taller side, and this particular sweater hits me right across the hips (not the thighs) and is slightly fitted. One one hand, I prefer that, because the flowy look on top doesn't do much for me, but I'm not sure how it's "supposed" to look.

This is a very close approximation of the sweater I'm talking about: http://www.oliveandoaknyc.com/.....70&su
