I wouldn't wear leggings to a wedding. If you want to cover your legs, why not wear dark coloured tights.

I think if you make it a semi-ethnic look it could work. Eileen Fisher is a pro at this type of floaty over legging style.

I would go with full length leggings, not cropped, and I think the outfit could work. Alternatively, a long tunic would be beautiful over slim white pants. There's a fine line between leggings and pants, but with a tunic I think you could wear either.

Hello Kelly. I'm new too. Welcome, it's a fun (and addictive) place here. :-)

My hubs is from NZ and we have spent a good deal of time there. We've been to weddings and other dos there and I believe that NZers have a very unique style that suits their climate and relaxed way of life.

I think that leggings will be fine worn as you've described, with wedges/heels and the lovely dress/tunic and some great jewellery. It's a look my sis wears (she's a size 20) and when she dresses it up, she looks fab and very appropriate for a 'dressy casual' function.

Have a great time at the wedding!

Hey, the leggings sound lovely...I also love the look of slim pants..either silk or a light crepe...The most important person in this equation is you and how you feel about yourself and your outfit is just so important...I give you permission to dress yourself so that you feel wonderful and wear whatever it takes...If your wedding is like so many lately that I have seen, whatever goes...Best to you...

I am for team Leggings or slim ankle pant. I a plus size women and think for a casual wedding it can be done with the right elements. Can you take a picture of the tunic? Even if you don't want to pose in it you can put it on a hanger so that we can get a better image of the style of tunic.

I pretty much love YLF and as long as you are comfortable come on in you are welcome in this safe space.

I echo the slim pants + tunic seems more on target than knit leggings, though finding just the right pants--that could be a HEWI. Are the colors dark, or pastels? Another idea to toss out, and this could be a long shot as well, is to wear the "tunic" over a slim tube skirt or pencil skirt that is longer.

Anyway, I sympathize because often I find a clothing item that suggests to me the idea of this great outfit I have in mind if I can only find the right other elements! And sometimes the fashion winds will blow right my way and sometimes not.

I practically live in leggings and tunics and have found an equally comfortable outfit I will be wearing to an evening summer wedding with simple, but striking accessories. (Even the sleeveless tank is flattering to my surprise, but I would consider adding a sleevey, if necessary.)

Interesting conundrum. I agree that a picture would help by the millions, KellyN! From what I am visualizing of leggings (and from being at many weddings), at this point I'd say leggings wouldn't be the ideal choice.

Hi/welcome Kelly --

Love the sound of the dress/tunic. Have you thought about wearing it *as* a tunic over slim pants in a silk or floaty fabric? Could solve your desire to cover your knees and the "want to be dressed up enough" issue.

Hi!
Dress code dressy casual.. I wouldn't chose leggings.. maybe nude hose (summer tights).
I dress would be lovely (not a tunic), maybe a 3/4 sleeve lightweight dress if you have issues with your arms!

OK, i'm new here - so i hope i'm not jumping in the wrong way - please let me know if there are other conventions around here i should follow I came across your forums as i was looking around for some solutions for an upcoming wedding i am attending.

i am 40, live in New Zealand so the wedding in about 4 weeks time is in our summer. I'm overweight, but on the journey to sort that out.... currently wearing size 16. i found a dress the other day which i will try to describe briefly - it is sleevless, with a base of "t-shirt" fabric, but dressed up with a layer of what i would call chiffon but is probably something different.... it's a floaty, sheer, fabric that falls in a draped fashion down the front, creating a soft v-neck. At the sides, this overlayer, is pulled around by some ties that cross at the back and you tie at the front. it is surprisingly flattering in more aspects than i was anticipating.

There are two areas i am not confident about: the sleeveless look, and the hem length. I prefer my arms to be covered, and the hem to fall at least below my knees.... my knees are not pretty!

the label i noticed once i was home calls the dress a "tunic" - it's the longest one i've worn (love tunics!).

So, my plan for my arms is to find / make a lightweight, floaty longline coat/jacket.

i'm wondering if it is appropriate to wear leggings - dressy ones (IS there such a thing????!) - ones with some detailing like buttons, studs or similar at the side seam.

I will be wearing high wedges.

the dress code for weddings like the one i am attending is informal but dressy / dressy casual.

what would you suggest....?

tia
