This is a huge no for me. I really have a hard time with leggings that show off the rear-side and the crotch - unless its in an exercise class or a dance studio.

I typically reserve true leggings, or Hard Tail pants as shown in the second link for mornings running out to grab a drink. The J.Crew pixie pants definitely feel like a thicker pant, almost Ponte material so you definitely don't feel as exposed.

I always think it's so interesting how everyone has mixed feelings about leggings!

I just picked up 2 pair of amazing leggings (?) from Sears, one in black, one in grey. They are 5 pocket cut with a fly, but the fabric feel is about halfway between the super thin sheer leggings material that's the norm, and a thick jersey sweatshirt fabric. I believe they advertised them as "moleton" which I have never even heard of. Interestingly enough, I think the black ones almost pass for pants, while the grey ones are clearly leggings.

Anyway, I feel comfortable wearing them with either long tunic tops, big boxy sweaters that clear the crotch, or with waterfall front cardigans, but not with a short shirt. The front is far less flattering than the rear, so I really only care about front length. LOL

James Jeans Twiggy jeggings and the J Crew Minnie pant for a trim but not clinging fit are the closest I come to wearing leggings.

I have a friend who swears by the ones from BCBG. She says they do not fade and the material is substantial.

La Belle - oh, yeh! Stirrup pants started as leggings, then got modified to stay in pull on boots more efficiently. I live in fear that stirrups are going to make a comeback next .;-)

I love leggings, but I do have a rule about covering my behind when wearing them. Tunics, mini-skirt aprons, long sweaters.

Hmm. Skinnies in the '80's. I don't remember wearing skinnies in the '80's. I think I bypassed that trend and went straight for the mom jeans. Rawrrrrr! Probably in a really nice acid wash to complement my really poufy hair. Sigh.

No... wait. I had tapered leg high waist trousers, a la my idol of the time, Paula Abdul.

See? I bet leggings are looking pretty good now...

I'm not a legging girl - finally just caved to skinnies last year (I lived through them both in the 80s and have terrible emotional scars from the fallout - it took a really long time for my lvoe of boots to overcome my fear of skinnies). I have a few leggings, but I wear them almost exclusively as thick tights in the chillier months, instead of as a pants-like substitute. For anything that I want a fitted line down my leg, I wear a skinny jean of some version.

Interestingly, I've recently realised that whilst most of my regular jeans (straight or boot cut) are dark wash, most of my skinnies are colours and patterns. Hm.

I've always gotten mine from Target- basic knit ones that aren't shaping, but have enough elastic at the waist to stay up. I'm surprised so many people dislike leggings!

The link for the first outfit (with the J. Crew Pixie leggings), is actually a staple look that I use in chilly weather, when I have a rehearsal or a dance class on the schedule. It just makes it practical to be able to pull boots and jacket, stick my hair up, put on some dance or character shoes, and go. I usually have a few layers of thin, fitted tops - tanks or long sleeves, or leotards, and a sleek jacket. Scarf, gloves, cadet or military-style cap finishes it off if I'm really feeling the chill.

I use knit pants by Max Studio - they hold me in pretty good, but I don't get muffin top. And they are comfortable enough, with enough stretch, to dance in. Two of my pairs are bootcuts, so that if I want to wear booties or pumps underneath, it has a finished look. They have a longer length, so for a rehearsal or class, I roll them up out of the way and put on socks or legwarmers.

I don't wear leggings, but I've been thinking about trying some in the cool/cold weather, with dresses that would be too short for me to wear bare-legged. I did just buy a pair of ponte skinny pants that could work for that purpose, so I will see how I like those and see if I end up with leggings.

My concern about tight leggings is having muffin top issues above the waistband. My ponte skinny pants are the right rise and waist fit, so no muffin top. I wore them very similar to your outfit over the weekend: black ponte pants, white v-neck tee, denim jacket, black/white/gray floral scarf, with charcoal Converse wedges.

I don't like the look, even on others, of knit leggings except with long tunics. Instead I like skinny woven pants or jeans that are real pants and still worn with long tops.
So many knits stretch out over the rear so that one can see skin or undies through the stretchy knit. I doubt the wearer is aware of this because it would look fine in the mirror just standing, especially from the front.

I don't. I can't stand the feel of them. They are always uncomfortably tight around my middle. I'm OK with stretchy tights, though -- go figure. But anyway, if I want to run out the door and be comfortable, it's loose jeans for me. Mind you, my body type is totally different than yours, so maybe that's a factor.

I quite like the look of the J. Crew pixie pant, though.

I wanted to get everyone's take on leggings for just running out the door and grabbing a drink or a coffee in the morning. I tend the do this and for that purpose I love J.Crew's pixie pant (kind of like a legging)(see here: http://bit.ly/15B8E7b ) and also Hard Tail (see here: http://bit.ly/19WMlBr )

What does everyone else use as a legging? Even if it's under things that cover their tush?

Just curious :)
