I've done the same thing as dianthus, and i've also cut the feet out of worn pairs of socks so they're just a simple tube you can scrunch at the top of the boot.

I also bought cable knit above the knee socks for this purpose and then rolled the top part down a few times to make them about an inch taller than my boots. A girl at work does this with a shorter casual skirt and opaque tights and it looks great.

How about something like this, where it's already integrated into the boot?
http://www.aldoshoes.com/ca-en.....0-beste/37
They call it a "ribbed knit cuff."

I was looking for some leg warmers this fall to fill in my boot gap, but I eventually gave up. I think Target has some.

I wear over-the-knee socks, kind of like these but with a grey tweedy pattern:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/no.....12-0-0-1-1

The sweater idea is really cool!

Like Khris, I wear tall socks under my boots (see the photo, is this the look you are going after?). It's easier in my opinion than real legwarmers because the socks are less bulky and seem to fall down less. If you get them a little taller (like thigh high) or thicker you can scrunch them a little to look like legwarmers.

I definitely consider this a casual look. My knee high boots were bought a year ago before I lost weight and realized that I need shorter shaft boots. So they have a bothersome gap even with skinnies tucked in. I'm not replacing them this year so I thought I might try this look sometimes when I don't mind looking casual.

Too bad I don't have any old sweaters or I would try that DIY.

Are you up for some DIY?

http://thatwentwell.net/tag/cr.....-sweaters/

For what it's worth, when socks are peeking from over the boots, it looks very casual to me.

I wear long socks that stick out of the top of my boots, but you can do the same thing with leg warmers under your boots. It works either way.

I feel silly asking... but what are those things called? Are they actually called "leg warmers"? I would like to find some and I don't even know what word to search for. [blushing] I looked up leg warmers and it looks like they cover the whole calf. Is that what they are supposed to do?

After that embarrassing question, any suggestions for good ones?
