Thanks for the replies, everyone. Diana, that's funny about the fabric patch on the Vince jeans looking like you forgot to take the tags off. You'd think that would occur to someone.

My current culprits are a pair of MEK Denim bootcuts. As with all MEKs they have elaborate embroidery on the pockets, although these are definitely on the toned down end (I don't wear sparkly butt bling, ever). The leather tag is the worst I've ever seen. It's bright white on dark wash and is even multi-layer with the MEK "M" sticking out of it. I think it might glow in the dark. I removed it.

Rabbit - it has occurred to me that removing the tags makes it harder to prove they're authentic. I never re-sell, however, and I'm willing to take the hit on people not knowing that I pay way, way too much for jeans In my defense, if I found jeans that fit the way my $$$ ones do at Old Navy I'd never buy another high end pair of jeans again.

I think it's definitely OK to remove them! In fact, you've reminded me of something. The two new pairs of Vince jeans I bought recently have this black fabric patch on the back waistband, which looks so much like one of those paper tags some companies put on their jeans with the price and style, etc, you know? My old Vince jeans have a leather patch that looks so much more intentional, but on these new ones the black tag looks like you forgot to remove the price tag. ;) I keep meaning to remove those.

I hate visible patches, but it never occurred to me to remove them. Good idea. I'd buy Madewell jeans if they didn't have the brown leather patch (but I think it's part of their aesthetic - the brown leather on black is such a hipster thing, so I get it, I just don't like it on me). I also dislike butt bling of any sort, including elaborate pocket stitching, so I tend to go for the brands without embellishment.

I think I had one pair of jeans (back when stonewashing was a thing), where the denim was darker under the label, so I'd check for that. Or if it's some primo brand you might want to resell unaltered. Otherwise, edit away!

They are your jeans and you can do what you like with them! If you don't like the patches by all means take them off!

Welcome, LaReine! You're not committing a faux pas at all. You should wear your jeans how you want, and if that means removing those patches then go for it!

I often find they get in the way of some of my wider belts, so depending on the jean, I have been known to remove them as well. Also, some of those logos are just downright ugly and an obvious attempt at "advertising on your butt", imho. So I think whether to remove or keep them is an entirely personal choice.

Hi everyone. I new here and really enjoying the forum, and anxiously awaiting the ability to see photos :-)

I apologize if this is a dumb question. I have developed a love of higher end jeans over the past few years. Some of the trendier pairs come with g*d awful, gaudy, leather logo patches on the rear belt line. I have always immediately removed them and assumed that that that's what one was supposed to do. However, they're sewn on like they're meant to stay, and left open on the sides as though one might actually want to put a belt under them (!). Hmmm. I know the patches are a thing for Levis, but I can't abide them on other jeans if they're at all obtrusive. Am I committing a fashion faux pas by removing them?
