Thanks everybody! Looks like I will pick up leather conditioner and waterproofing spray and see what happens. I'll just space out when I use them just in case.

Hm, I don't do any of this, as it hardly rains here, and when it does I'm usually just walking from a parking garage straight into an elevator. Then again, my casual boots have usually been extremely tough. I might try this waterproofing/conditioning thing out with my new Docs.

I've been treating my boots with water-resistant leather conditioner at least once seasonally. I bought a nice cream leather conditioner that I got at Clarks, and I not only use it on my boots, but also my leather shoes that see a lot of wear. I do think it's helping to protect the color on my boots, and especially noticed the difference on some boots that I *hadn't* got around to conditioning/weatherproofing yet and wore out in the winter on salted sidewalks. I had to seriously baby them to reduce the discoloration afterwards.

I don't usually waterproof my boots- being as I live in the desert and it hardly ever rains here. I do condition all of my leather goods (real and fake) regularly. I think it really helps things to hold up better, especially in the case of not the highest quality (which is usually what I can afford). I try to do it at least twice a year (beginning and end of season).

I don't condition, only spray and polish. But I do have my boots spruced up at the cobblers' each season. Perhaps they condition?

1. I condition all of my leather boots; during time of heavy use, they get a wipe and condition once a week, or twice a week if I am not lazy.

2. I have never waterproofed my boots. They just get conditioning.

:) The longest I've owned a pair of boots so far is 3 yrs. My black clarks have not cracked and I'm planning on using them for another 3 years or so. So; I've had no problems!

Hi,

I am planning on picking up some weatherproofing spray after seeing this thread.

Two questions.

1-Do you leather condition your boots? I picked up the Frye “Carmen Short Back Lace” Ankle Boot from Angie's picks and am wondering if they require periodic leather conditioning to prevent cracking? I also picked up these SW boots.

2-Do you leather condition boots before or after waterproofing spray?

I don't want to ruin these boots but am uncertain what to do with them.

Thanks!
