The XS were still big on me and would have easily accomodated multiple underlayers. My size 2 J. I'm a size 10-12 and ended up keeping the Petite Medium which still gave me some room to layer with a blazer underneath. I suspect your Mom would fit the Petite Small. It might be helpful though to order both sizes and see what she's comfortable with. She is petite, 5'1" with short arms and rectangularly apple-shaped. She normally wears a 6-8 or PM at Macy's and such. However, she does like to layer thick sweaters (never jackets/blazers) under her coats. Should I order the Petite Small or the Petite Medium for her? </p>
