I'm late here as I see you decided, but I'm with Angie. I find this style of collar difficult in itself plus getting it to sit right with other collars is too much conflict for me. The color is fab, though!

Thanks so much to all who commented.
After some more tryons, the coat is going back.

It's a combination of Angie's obs on collar, plus how it works with my wardrobe fabrics, and maybe a ticky feel about fit thrown in.
I need it to be very versatile, mostly open , " jaunty" toss-on item and it does not style up that way. A higher collar DOES help with that look for an outdoor coat for my long neck and short hair. Thing I don't gravitate toward Chanel- style jackets for this reason, interestingly I've had better luck with " indoor" suit jackets in that style because the jacket volume is less and there might be jewelry or even collar detail to work with.
I do think some kind of burgundy " small coat" would still be great, and I

will wait to see what the fashion tides may bring in the future!

No complaints about the sleeves here, but I like my coat sleeves a bit longer for coverage while driving. I really like it on you but was wondering if you would need a scarf and if so, how much trouble it might be? Like the one more thing to deal with on the way out the door kind of trouble.

Hi, Angie!
In pic 6 I am showing my existing YB gray novelty knit (?) with black leather trim coat/jacket that I got winter before last. It has a kind of shawl collar that comes up high on the neck, and bit of fit and flare shape. I showed it because I have been wearing it with outfits that seemed similar to what I would wear with the Laundry jacket, and would likely compare them, or see if one worked better, with color, proportion.

Angie raises a good point. I at first did not order it since it's a plain round collar, I would not buy a regular all- purpose coat without some kind of collar, funnel, tab. The YB coat, which is not getting much love here(!) , has more of a collar.
So, I was weighing the benefits of the color and style otherwise, since I've really not come across something like it.
I do wear occasional T neck and collars but usually not because I always have on a collar via work. So I would be considering it outfit- wise based on the best other items( colors, proportions). For example. I like Jules' comment on intentionality of pants fabrics and I need to see if my options highlight the coat crisply enough or are too murky.
It could be the coat " wants" more specific items than I have every day and so is more fussy than versatile. I do believe in some impractical items, but would want eyes open in that.
Good points to ponder

I'm a bit of a spanner. Although you've blocked your head so I can't be 100% sure, I'm not convinced that the neckline is good. Your very long neck and short hair wants a collar, unfrumped. I know that all too well from my own body type. What do you think?

I love it with the skirt. I think for a couple of reasons - yes proportions, but also, the skirt outfit is pattern/colour/texture rich all over to match the beautiful jacket. With the plain pants, it looks way less intentional.
In terms of proportions - I'm pearish and with tunic length tops and cardis, I like skinny pants with tall boots or slim straights and a chunky heeled shoe. Basically I am looking for a long leg line and little bulk on the bottom. I think even darker shoes would make a difference here.
But - I really love the skirt outfit, and I'd probably be happy enough with that to make it a keeper, assuming you have a few options like a darker shirt, perhaps a patterned shirt with plainer tights, or go totally maximal with patterned shirt, skirt and tights!

Thank you Vix, and Firecracker.
I do think it works a bit better with skirts, due to "my" silhouette and leg line, but probably have some pants that are better than others with it.
I'm kind of with Susie, plan to do a fall review/edit in a few weeks and will put this coat through its paces with my warmer skirts, tights outfits, different tops, and some pants outfits. I do think it's an unsusual offering and so the competition would be more of a typical wool peacoat, walking coat or such, not usual blazers, and despite this being a typical fall color, I have not found much in the way of nice burgundy-colored toppers, so I'm hoping I don't just have sales-goggles.

It can be casual and elegant depending on the supporting items. If your climate is moderate you will likely get loads of wear out of it. I think it is a keeper.

Joy, Suz, and Word Lily, thanks for comments!
I dragged out tights to try skirt because this color would go with lots of skirt/sweater outfits with gray and black tights and add some color and warmth. Suz, you are right, while I will burrow into warmer coat in deep winter, this is a good weight for "parking lot" coat and feels more stylish.
For pants it'd probably be better if they were skinny (but not on me) but I will try it with straight, long pants and boots which do give a longer legline, and maybe try column of color.
Also I would wear this as an "errand coat" with jeans, when heavy coat is too hot once inside but I'm too cold with no coat, even in grocery or mall or wherever.

Trying the Laudry boucle coat in burgundy.
It looks better on Ummlila, but....
I tried it because of the slight fit through the waist, and the great color, and the texture.
I love those aspects of it.
Here's where need your critique please:
--Is it too fitted for pear-ness (may be made more for rectangle). I would wear it open mostly since I'm just grab & go that way, but would want to zip when chilly.
--Are the sleeves too long? Pic 1 shows arm down full length. I never thought to try Petite, would have to be PM, I guess. I am not going to alter them. On the model they're shown rather short. I can "cuff" them, due to zips, but that's not its best look
--Do you think it works with pants and with pencil skirts, though an "unusual" length? I just tossed it on over random items-- pants in winter tend to be hemmed longer and worn over ankle boots, but the skirt-tights look is pretty typical. I put on a heavier knit sweater how well it would layer--it does, though thinner knits sweaters and blouses fit more comfortably.
Shown last is for reference, my Yoana Baraschi gray jacket that would somewhat "split wears" with the Laundry coat, except that they're color opposites-I tend not to wear the gray topper with gray tops & bottoms, whereas the burgundy would go well over gray and black, and the burgundy would not go as well over other berry colors that are "too close but not" in color, so for those I wear the gray (or other coat).

What say the eagle-eyed Fabbers?
