I'm sorry, Brianna. That was too harsh. I think seeing the near pornographic ads and this post and the words "bondage chic" were too much for my old grey cells on the same day. I don't see an edit button now to remove the comment.

I think she totally rocks the look--go her! Were it me (not that I'm remotely ballsy enough to wear leggings like that, though I wish I was), I'd probably have picked a bright colored belt, or one that looked decidedly girly, to mute the latex a bit. Still, I think she did a good job. It's a daring outfit, and one obviously not worn just anywhere, but that hardly makes it bad or bondage-y (which isn't to say that bondage is bad.. you know what I mean). ;D

Ouch--saying she looks like a prostitute seems a little harsh. The woman is a friend of a friend, and this thread links to my friend's blog which means it'll show up in her referral logs. That means HER friend may end up reading it. Now I'll feel really bad if she does :(

Lots of people (especially creative types) enjoy having a hardcore element to their style. I probably should have said rocker-chic, not bondage-chic (although I don't think my friend would mind that description--don't know about her friend) since rockers are pretty fond of their leather pants, which aren't that far off from latex!

I'm with most of the other women in feeling she would have looked better in something besides those leggings. To me she looked like a nice girl dressed up like a prostitute. Does anyone else really want to send a "bondage chic" message?!

I like it, Brianna...it adds some different texture. Thx for another point of view on the latex thing. The other woman's belt buckle reminded me of this blog post I saw the other day... http://atlantishome.typepad.co.....jeans.html ...she is sporting a similar buckle....and i like her distressed jeans too. I feel they can be done when you have a slim body type and pair it with high quality things, even when one is over a certain age.

Was bondage the theme of the party? I was looking at what her friend was wearing, and it seemed to be a theme.

The occasion, the apparent theme of the party make the outfit okay. I'm with Maya, though--I think I would have liked to see coated denim, or else a different belt. Her belt looks like it's made of the same stuff as the leggings. Plus, I'm not sure if I like the boots with the outfit, because they are so similar. I don't know, to me it all looks very leathery, with a white shirt thrown in. I guess I'm just not a fan of the look in general, but this girl definitely does it much better than I've seen most other people wear it.

I don't think that black or denim skinnies would give the look the same edge. They'd look good, but the daring, artsy, hardcore edge would be lost. The unique sheen of the latex really sets it off, IMHO.

You know what I would have preferred? A pair of black skinnies in coated denim. It would give the festive sparkle and sheen without being so...bondagey. Maybe I'm more conservative than I had thought.

I'm with Nicole and Maya. She looks great (artsy and appropriate for the occasion), but to me she could look even better, like with a nice pair of skinnies or funky patterned non-rubber leggings.

The look in general just doesn't do it for me. And it doesn't help that here in Paris I get to see it worn horribly almost every day...

I agree with Maya 100%. She looks good, but she would look good in anything. Something about latex leggings just does not sit well with me. She would look better in a pair of skinny jeans. I guess that's it for me--why wear rubber pants when you can wear jeans?

I think she looks perfectly tasteful and appropriate for the occasion.

I also think she looks like a model and could probably wrap herself in a rubber suit and still look great.

That said, I still don't like the look. Skin tight latex just sends the wrong message to me.

Yes, I think it works. But I think one can add one important element to the reasons why this outfit works: It is occasion-appropriate. She is wearing it to a New Year's Eve party.

She looks chic, not tarty or space-age. I think you are right about the elements that make it work. Also, just boots in general as opposed to heels of some sort keep the latex shine to a minimum.

Yes she does look great the way she has done the latex leggings.
The only time I have seen them on someone it was with high heels and a lacy black tunic that had a dropped waist. It almost worked but not quite. I think it is best to have the bum totally covered when wearing these type of pants.

Remembe Angie's blog post about liquid/latex leggings a while back? I was pretty sure there was a way to wear them well, and one of my friends from school proved me right on her blog. I meant to post this a while ago, actually--the post is about New Year's Eve!--but I forgot until now. Anyway, go to this post:

http://theongoingproject.blogs.....years.html

and scroll down to the third picture. The girl is wearing latex leggings with a white button-down tunic shirt, a wide black obi-style matte belt, and grey/black booties. I think it's a completely gorgeous outfit--artsy, surprisingly simple, just the right amount of edgy bondage-chic. I'd wear it in a heartbeat if I had the body for it.

I think there are two key elements here that make the look work:
1) the simple, clean, conservative, classic element of the crisp white button-down tunic, which is echoed in the wearer's simple, classic bob hairstyle, and
2) the mix of different finishes on the leather--the matte belt, the shiny leggings, and the half-matte, half-shiny boots.

What do you think?
