I would not have imagined the finished project from the pattern envelope. The colors of the rickrack, and scale of the ruffle, are just perfect. I really like lightweight, light-colored dresses for summer wear as well, and like you, find that a nude bra and half slip are perfectly fine underneath. It’s McCalls 7742. I cut a size M; I generally wear M tops and dresses, size 6 pants and jeans, and am 5’7”. I could probably have gone with a size S, but it’s fine.</p> <p>I made just a few modifications.<br />1. used only 1/4” seam allowance around the whole neckline/facing seam, to make it a smidge less low.<br />2. added 11” ruffle on the bottom, about 1 2/3 x width of bottom hem as pattern was a little short for me. Applied 3 rows of ric rac trim.<br />3. didn’t follow pattern instructions to use interfacing in the sleeve cuffs, as the double layer in the bodice proved to me that just the double layer of fabric was enough.&nbsp;<div><br /></div><div>A light weight fabric and/or semi sheer lawn, seersucker or non-sheer voile would be best, probably.
