Hah! Thank you.

The ombré hair was totally accidental. I was between at-home dye touch-ups in September and the lower part of my hair that was salon colored in April retains color (the part that is pink) and the scalp that’s only had direct dye on it (no developer) is oily and too smooth/closed hair follicle to pick up color. Just as I started feeling embarrassed to run around with goofy hair and thinking I really ought to retouch it, I started getting compliments from strangers about it. It has been so funny. I didn’t think of my two toned faded locks as fashionable but I guess it looked like I did it on purpose, so I kept rocking the fade!

FashIntern, thanks - it does indeed. I went into running a year ago really trying to recover strength and endurance that I had lost over years, and trying to see if I could love running. I found both of those things in spades. I’m hooked.

And Sal, I’m so sorry that you were injured and had a rough experience. That’s so hard and disappointing after so much training.

I nearly had a similar experience. I got sick just before my taper was due to start, then allergy season started, asthma flared up, and I was throwing up when I’d try to run because pollen was so high. I nearly dropped down to a lesser distance and was scared because up until days before the race, my taper that was supposed to have many low mileage runs had almost NO running or activity.

Fortunately I recovered and pollens dropped a bit RIGHT before race day, and the months of training left me very well prepared. But it was iffy, and it’s hard, and having an injury would be such a letdown when you are planning for a run that is like your injury-free practice sessions.

Thanks!

And AJ, I’m chuckling over your kudos. My iPhone thanks you while berating me for not being as careful as I ought with a pricey phone. Aside from photos at races with a photographer, my running shots involve (while on a walk interval or a warmup or cooldown) encountering something like a fence or a sign with a base and a ledge, turning on 10 sec timer, balance phone and hope it doesn’t fall, run at it, and see if anything works out. LOTS more bloopers where I’m not in frame at all than successful shots. It’s worth a laugh!

Runcarla, you are so sweet. Thank you.

I actually saw they did a model call locally earlier this year, but sadly I’m too short for their criteria. (They were not calling for petite models. I’m 5’5” but I was still below their minimum height for non-petites.)

They have a fabulously diverse group of models, though!

I wish I could spirit you to Seattle for specs shopping. We are spoiled with a lot of choice in boutiques, even for folks like me with very wide faces.

I should add that I have a new pair coming (this time from Warby Parker, as I’ve found a great pair of clear honey-gold tinted specs that I’ve been considering all year) and recently tried on some more expensive boutique specs. I want to take advantage of a generous vision hardware allowance before end of the year.

These are 3 almost but not quite specs. I am judging them compared to what I already have.

I LOVE #1 and would get them if I didn’t already have both teal/fuchsia and purple/blue titanium specs. They are just too similar to what I have.
#2 is ALMOST there but too heavy at the temples.
#3 is FUN but takes over my face. I want my glasses to draw attention to my face but not BE the only focus. If they were not solid turquoise but had a contrasting lighter color - like white inside - it would add some dimension and lightness.

I like looking for specs. I will probably make this part of its own post once my new pair arrives and I can show them to you.

At the moment, just keeping up on my base training/ running mileage to maintain where I am. I am waiting until I have a bigger budget before I register for more in-person events, but I have two virtual half marathons that I’d really like to earn (if possible, in December.)

I ran my first half in June and loved it. I do 5ks a couple days a week and longer runs on the weekend (from 4-10 miles.) I got bit by the running bug a LOT this year, did a marathon relay with friends, and I want to do more!

I just jumped over to your thread on off topic about running to add some thoughts and suggestions.

A roundup of what I wore for various occasions:

1-2: Meeting family for an awesome wine club release party. Dark resin jeans with side zip, black mesh dress over a black camisole, black gilet, rose gold collar necklace, royal blue and emerald velvet pumps

3-4: For a ballet performance. Burgundy ponte sheath with asymmetrical neckline, floral burnout velvet duster (mustard with burgundy and purple florals), glass and rose gold pendant, gold envelope clutch, rose gold wedges

5-6: For a family wedding. Teal crepe and satin shift, black glass and gold metal/thread necklaces, royal blue and emerald pumps, gold envelope clutch

7-9: Casual wear with a really awesome wildcard for me: an incredibly soft, high quality olive hoodie from Universal Standard (one of two pieces using a discount coupon.) Wore with dark resin of grey jeans, and under an olive moto or black leather jacket with pewter oxfords.

10-12: For a family party. The second purchase using a discount coupon. A blue cupro tee (tee used loosely because it’s an incredibly luxe fabric.) Worn with black ponte pants, gold mules, denim jacket.

13-15: A friend offered an extra ticket for a really fun theater performance. Emerald satin “Geneva” dress with asymmetrical hem, satin black bomber, royal blue and emerald pumps, black leggings, gold envelope clutch, black glass beaded necklace.

16-23: What I’m really spending most of my time in when not in loungewear: running (or walking/hiking/yoga) gear.
