I wish that I had consigned more items when I retired. I held on to too many dressy, office-y things because I still liked them, but I didn't find a lot of places to wear them. I eventually consigned, but they would have sold better if they had been really current.

Congratulations, Carla! And, incidentally, you *have* to wear that bicycle skirt, at minimum, because it fits with Angie's ice and wine them! Not to mention your own.

I am sorry about the health issues. I'm amazed you are able to train so well while dealing with that.

As for the capsule, it looks extremely cohesive. Do you have some scarves, etc or bright colour for days when you crave a lift? I'm thinking of your new puffer and how the black one made you sad. You might crave a bit more colour in the daily wear also in winter? But perhaps you get that enough on the more casual weekend days?

Congratulations on retirement and thinking ahead. DH's retirement was the shocker and I am still reeling a bit. He ( type A personality) needed something to do but refused to commit to volunteering. The house ( my "office" that I have run effeciently for decades has been taken over. If your DH is in management, beware. I am an all or nothing type so let DH take over the yard and kitchen. I love gardening and cooking but had to back away. I need my wardrobe for a the creative outlet that cooking and gardening provided. I miss running the house and am tempted to get a part time job or do more volunteering to get away from it. it is painful and being close to children and grandchildren helps. The move was to help both of us with retirement. I had too much personal investment in the former house and neighborhood. It would have been good to stay there but not for him.
Wardrobe-wise. Keep what you can wear to dress up jeans a bit. I dress each day so I am ready to run out to a meeting or to a spur-of-the-moment event or meal...Something that can readily transitioned from dog walking to dinner date. Adding a blazer or leather jacket to tee and jeans is a favorite.

Your capsule looks good... but that's a good point about season...

My mum did all sorts of things when she retired... theatre design, painting, Japanese... she's really active in church and the Japanese senior centre (note that we are Chinese, lol). But don't start watching soap operas... my mum did that for a year. Turned her brain to mush... space aliens and three people back from the dead...

JAileen - DH is retiring too! I'll be at home 2 weeks before. I've figured I'll have 60 extra hours per week I don't have now! 10 will automatically go to sleep (8 hours vs my current 6), then another 10 for piano. Garden time will absorb a lot, but I won't be as desperate or have to 'speed garden' like I do now. Instead of squeezing workouts late at night, I can get them in during the day, and read books in the pm. I haven't watched TV in 3 years, so hope to find a 'date night' show to watch with DH.

Unfrumped - quality of life is my mantra, and just recently YOLO! DH has unfortunately seen a few of his friends and workmates die too young (late 50's - early 60's) and I think it has affected us.

Firecracker - if I wear every top with every bottom, there will be no outfit repeats over the 80 day period! However, not every top goes with every bottom, and I don't mind repeats. I should be good!

Classically Casual - I surprised myself during a recent trip when I brought a pair of slacks designated as work bottoms, but they ended up being travel work horses! I'm thinking I would like to move one skirt into my 'dressy' capsule, and the t-shirts and sweaters are just as likely to be weekend faves as as comfortable work wear. The button downs are the outliers. I never wear button downs on the weekend, but I've packed them for hot weather vacations....

Eliza and LaPedestrienne - the bicycle skirt is a recent gift from my mother! I need a few tops to 'go' with it, though. It is a 'keeper' for sure!

Your work capsule is gorgeous and cohesive. My only advice is to keep a VERY open mind about what clothing you will need in retirement. It took me way too long to stop gravitating towards the dressier spectrum when I shopped. Those were the clothes I was familiar with and loved. (Work dressing is generally much more casual now though.) You may find yourself involved in brand new activities with new people in new places, needing a new type of clothing. Clothing budgets usually change too.
I pretty much said goodbye to anything needing dry cleaning. Variety will likely only matter to you,

And plan something festive to do right after you retire. It helps the transition. Congratulations!

Congratulations! I applaud your running a tight capsule if only 5 more months to go.
I did a post awhile back on retirement- contemplation wardrobe. I since started a completely new job. It is very rewarding but I don’t know whether I will continue for 1,2,3 or so more years. I get a lot of job satisfaction, but because it’s full time plus some weekends and some holidays, I’m in that conflict between missing family time,
grandchild , travel and I am very aware that we don’t have any way to know if we’ve got all the “ time” and health we think we might.
So I’m trying to ask myself how much do I need another item for work outfits, when down the road I might want gear, fun casual, or plane tickets!

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! Your capsule looks very nice. Is that for winter? It looks like it's for winter in San Francisco, not Canada, though. Oh, I guess it just doesn't include your Arctic outerwear, sorry.

I don't know if I'm retired or just don't have a job. However, my husband is retiring next year. I've had the house to myself all these years and now I'll have him hanging around. I already told him I won't be making lunch for him every day.

It's official! After 40 years in the workforce, 30 with my current employer, I will be retiring from the labour market. I have 80 work days left with my last day at work mid March 2018. With that in mind, I put together a work capsule to see me through the next 5 months.

First I had to purge most of my older bottoms, because I've lost some weight and dropped 2 sizes in the past 3 years. (I'm dealing with an autoimmune condition that affects my GI system.) A few oversized garments have been donated as well. I've picked up 3 bottoms in my new size, and this week I visited Nordies and got bra fitted and refreshed my lingerie. The only things I want to add are a wine coloured sweater, and a jacket - maybe a check with blue and wine in it?

I'm going to challenge myself to wear the heck out of my button downs, and depend less on sweaters and T-shirts. Trousers are basic, with a pair of dark wash jeans for casual Friday's. Skirts aren't my favourite in the winter, but with tall boots should work. Dressy shoes will migrate to the office once there is snow, and return home in the spring. I'm not adverse to wearing my sneaks at work. A jacket and a bomber for an extra layer.

Thoughts, advice, are welcomed. I would especially like to hear from anyone who has gone through this already. Come spring I will have to figure what to keep for the next chapter in my life!
