now, i'm curious. i'm not entirely sure what makes something a status print. i have a dress that may qualify. can't find a current picture of me wearing it though. will try to find one.

I like print skirts, but I don't like purple much, so this one is ... meh. The idea is good - however, I found my print skirts to be challenging when stepping outside the original outfit I had developed.

It requires a reversal of thinking. Normally I wear plain, neutral bottoms with color or prints, accessories on top. When I wear a print skirt, I have to put the plain and neutral on top, and that feels odd. Since I have become more used to the idea, it isn't quite as difficult, and I am usually happy with the results.

Rae, interesting that it reminds you of baroque. In the visual arts, that period was all about ornamentation and intricacy, so it certainly makes sense. I am not a great fan of the architecture or paintings of the era, but I absolutely love the music, for some strange reason.

I like them! I loved this one at Atlantic-Pacific: http://atlantic-pacific.blogsp.....roque.html. Despite the army vest and despite the fact that the pattern seemed to accentuate her reproductive area! LOL

I am drawn to these prints since I love bold patterns and prints, but I am picky about them, especially on my bottom half since they can emphasize the hips a bit too much for my liking. Plus there's the question of awkward pattern placement (LOLing at "here's my uterus!"). Id be more likely to choose a blouse or dress in one of these patterns than a skirt, and then funk it up with denim and boots to keep it from looking too 90s office wear.

I'm strangely drawn to them, though they are not what I would consider my style. Maybe in a funky cut, one shoulder blouson dress or something . . . but not in a classic pencil skirt.

Wore some status prints for work attire in the '90s. Always felt a bit like a poser in them. Now that I am mature enough in years for them to feel more age and station-in-life appropriate to more match my mental associations with it, they feel too cliche for me, and don't hold much appeal to my current style persona aspirations.

I do admire them on the young, trendy bloggers and the pizzazz and flair in which they style them, though, with the likes of Atlantic-Pacific pairing a status print dress with a safari jacket for example. They make them look fresh instead of "ladies who lunch."

This reminds me of all the outfits we used to get stitched out of Mom's sarees... This is pretty common in all the colleges in India... The kurtas, the tops and the skirts :)

In this dose, too busy and riotously colorful pour moi. Can't shake the feeling that someone took a scarf and made it into a skirt, but I'm notoriously slow at eye adjustment. :)

ETA: I do think there is a pattern placement issue here, as in "X marks the spot" with the front view, and "picture frame" on the derriere...

I like it! It is a very bold pattern, and it would be fun to create an outfit around it.

I'm not sure I would actually buy this particular skirt, but who knows? I'm always playing safe when I shop, and the result is a boring closet full of basics. Getting exposed to all the ideas here at YLF might easily change that. Keep'em coming!

I think there are a few different types of prints that are related enough to be called a 'status print' in this manner!

I don't like the chain/scarf prints, personally. I LOVE the baroque thing that's trending now (but would prefer beading and embroidery to just a print). I find myself warming up to prints like this more recently!

I actually just bought a dress with a print I would put in this category today, but I bought it without trying thinking I could return it, and it doesn't fit AND it turns out it's on final sale! Boo. I might put it in the style exchange though. xD

I personally don't feel them calling to me. They remind me of the baroque period (for whatever reason), and that's just something that doesn't resonate with me. I don't have a negative opinion of them, though.
